Center member, Mary Lou Wilson is a storyteller, and one topic she has learned a lot about through the years is black history. Though she’s really “homefolk,” Mary Lou will be our guest speaker at Birthday Potluck this month. Mary Lou will share stories of inspiration and courage from slavery times and the civil rights movement.

W
hen it comes time to print the February newsletter, the Red Hat Society hasn’t actually held their January planning meeting yet. So we can’t announce where the group plans to go, or what they will do.
On top of this, plan on hearing some great music from Marie Ogilvie and Minister Pamela Cotton, who will sing traditional African American songs. Join us Feb. 17 for this special tribute. We’ll have lunch at 11:30, and the program begins about noon. The Center provides the main course. Please bring a side dish.
It became a month-long celebration in 1976. The month of February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.
But, based on their track record, we can pretty much count on the day to be interesting and fun. Please watch the signup table for this month’s trip to be posted. Or, feel free to call the Center, say, the second week in February.
