We are delighted to announce our new Open Artists’ Group! Rather than an actual “class” with an instructor, the Open Artists’ Group will be more of a creative fellowship among painters. Our resident Renaissance Woman, Sylvia Couch, will facilitate the meetings and offer guidance to any beginners in the group.
Participants will need to furnish their own supplies and are free to bring their media of choice, such as watercolor on paper or oil on canvas. The group is scheduled to meet on first and third Fridays (Oct. 3 & 17) from 9 until 11 a.m. There will be no charge to Center members. For non-members, the fee is $5 per session.
Our speaker for potluck this month is historian E.J. Neeley. She will pay homage to women who were spies and smugglers in the Civil War. These women were not enlisted, and they did not wear military uniforms, but they served just the same. We will learn about the efforts of local women — how they sneaked
fabric, food and information out of Union-occupied Nashville into Williamson County — as well as stories of brave and clever women from other places. E.J. has been an active historian since moving to Williamson County in 1976, and has served on the staff of both The Carter House and Carnton Plantation. Join us for this fascinating look at women in history on Wednesday, October 15. Lunch is at 11:30, and E.J. will begin her presentation at noon. The Center provides the main course. Please bring a side dish.

The Red Hat Society will take a step back in time when they travel to Fiddler’s Grove Historic Village in Lebanon this month, where buildings, artifacts, and indeed history have been preserved. The tour fee is $4. Afterward, the group will gather for lunch at a nearby restaurant, and then stop by Pratt’s Orchard for apples on the way back. The van will leave the center at 9 am. Van fee is $6.
