opportunity for cultural learning at potluck this month. Our guests will be a group of teachers from MTSU’s Confucius Institute and they will introduce us to a number of Chinese traditions, and share the meaning and background of these customs. We’ll learn the significance of the Chinese New Year, what role fireworks plays in Chinese culture, and why they post the “fu”
character (a sort of bestowal of blessings) upside down. They will introduce us to the Chinese art of paper cutting and the meaning of the “red envelope” — as well as treat us to a tasting of some traditional Chinese dishes! Join us May 15 for a meaningful and fun afternoon. We’ll have lunch at 11:30, and the teachers will begin about noon. The Center provides the main course. Please bring a side dish.
Historic Bell Buckle, with its antique stores and old-time ambience galore, is a perennial favorite for the Center.
The Grove Rovers have planned a trip there for this May 22nd. We’ll spend the morning exploring the shops and then enjoy a nice lunch before we head back. The van will leave the Center at 9:30 a.m. The van fee is: $6.
The Grove Rovers are planning to attend a matinee performance of the beloved musical, “Annie,” on Thurs., July 25, at Chaffin’s Barn. Tickets are $20 for the show only (and you can bring a sack lunch), or $28.50 to include a box lunch. Cof-
fee, tea and soft drinks will be provided at no charge. NOTE: The deadline to reserve our seats is Thurs., May 30. Libby must receive payment by that date in order to confirm our reservation.
