Normally, the Grove Rovers do their roving on the fourth Wednesday of the month. But the matinees at Chaffin’s are on Thursdays, so we’re a day off schedule for July. We made our reservations to see Annie last month, however, the box office advised it would try to hold a couple more tickets for us until July 10.
If you’d like to go, tell Libby, and she will confirm ticket availability. It costs $20 for the play only, and $28.50 to include a box lunch. Here’s a bonus: Mark Stewart’s son, Scott, has several roles in the play, and their dog Rufus stars as Sandy! The van will leave the Center on Thurs., July 25, at 10:30 a.m. The van fee is: $7

The weather cooperated and everyone had a great time on the golf course. Please look at the insert in the newsletter for a listing of all our golf supporters. Then turn that page over and you will see that FiftyForward College Grove is offering a caregivers workshop series July 23, July 30 and August 6 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Please tell your neighbors, friends, church congregations and others who might be in a caregiver’s role. We hope you will take advantage of this educational series and gain some knowledge. There is no fee for this workshop; however, reservations are necessary.
Did you know that the official Tennessee State gem is the Tennessee freshwater pearl? And have you ever heard of the Tennessee River Freshwater Pearl Farm in Camden? It’s the only freshwater pearl culturing farm in North America. And we are planning a daytrip there on Wed., July 10! Appropriately enough, we will take the “Senior Pearls” tour and enjoy a presentation on the pearl-culturing process and its history. We’ll also tour the mu-
seum, visit the farm, and shop from the jewelry showroom. Admission is $17.50 plus tax and will be due when we get there. We’ll have lunch down the road at a local favorite, the Country & Western Steakhouse, which is known for its catfish. This will be a long trip. It’s 95 miles from the Center to the pearl farm. We’ll stop midway for a restroom break and to stretch our legs. We’ll leave the center at 8:30 a.m. Van fee is: $21.

Miller’s Grocery in Christiana Thursday, July 18 It has been a few years since we’ve been to Miller’s Grocery, so let’s boogie over to Christiana for a nice lunch on Thursday, July 18. If you haven’t been, Miller’s is an old-time meat and three — and their desserts are
made from scratch. They also have a nice selection of salads. After lunch, we can browse their general store, across the street from the restaurant. The van will leave the Center at 11 a.m. Van fee is $6.

We love our country music. And we love the way Dalton Little plays it. Traditional, that is! Dalton will return to the center Thurs., July 11, and play us some of our best-loved country songs. It’s a fun afternoon. We’ll have lunch at 11:30, and Dalton will begin about noon. Please make lunch reservations by Tuesday, July 9.

Stained Glass Class Becomes Open Workshop Since January, Mike Jones has led four successful series of stained glass classes, and nearly twenty people through the process of making a stained glass panel. Last month, he suggested we open the class up to a less structured, workshop format. And we said, Sounds Great! The first official workshop will be Friday, July 12. Here are some differences, as well as similarities, in how the workshop will work.

Stained glass will continue to meet on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You don’t have to attend Xamount of Fridays in a row. Come on the Fridays that work best for you. You will need to sign up by the Wednesday before the Fridays you will attend. We don’t want Mike to drive to the center only to have no one show up! You’ll have a much greater selection in patterns. Mike has given us several pattern books. Or, you
can bring in your own. • The first step is still to select your pattern and colors. A materials fee of $25 will be due at that time. (Nonmembers, $30.) • There will be a $5 fee for each class. (Non-members, $10.) In this workshop format, you will also be freer to choose the complexity of your stained glass pattern. In general, the more pieces, the smaller the pieces and the curvier the pieces, the more advanced the project. If you go with advanced, you may want to consult with Mike before making your final decision. See Libby to make your selections.
