The icing on the cake for us is the perspective that Yumi brings: She grew up in Tokyo. When she was 19, she moved to the United States and, for the last 14 years, Yumi has made College Grove her home.

Join us for potluck, this Wed., Jan 17th, when Yumi discusses Japan and her recent travels there.

We’ll have lunch at 11:30, and Yumi will begin about noon.

The Center provides the main course. Please bring a side dish.

A hearty thank you to all our cooks, bakers and volunteers who helped make our breakfast a success. We served about 125 people at our Pancake Breakfast & Bake Sale in early December, and a good time was had by all. Many thanks also to our members and community for supporting — and to Williamson Medical Center for sponsoring — this event.

I want to thank everyone who contributed to our adopted family’s Christmas. They are going to have a wonderful Christmas morning, thanks to you.

A reminder that it’s renewal time for many of you!

Please see any of the staff to help renew your membership. There is a form that we are asking you to fill out. The membership fee is $90 per person. Scholarships and half scholarships are available with proof of income.

WE LIKE DAYTRIPS THAT are close by during the winter months and, in keeping with that tradition, have planned a triangle trip — from the Center, to Chapel Hill, and then to Eagleville — for Tuesday, Jan 16.

We’ll visit the shops in Chapel Hill first, before heading to the Mexican restaurant in Eagleville. After lunch, we’ll cross the street and browse the Lamp Shop.

It’s a treasure trove!

We’ll probably stop by the thrift store in Eagleville — if it’s open.

This trio of topics — immune diseases, digestive issues and food sensitivity — was member-generated, and the nutritionists at Williamson Medical Center have designed a presentation to specifically address these issues.

The nutritionists at Williamson have presented here before, and we can count on them to bring valuable information that’s pretty easy to grasp. Join us on Thurs., Jan. 4.

Please remember that, when Williamson County Schools close due to inclement weather, the center will observe the following policy: All of our regular programming — classes, events, lunches and daytrips — will be cancelled. 

Our center office will open at 10 a.m. if possible for staff to do office work. 

Peg Augustine assembles, edits and writes Appalachian folk stories, and then tells them in the voice — and dress — of her grandmother, Granny Rose.

Peg performed Granny Rose’s summer stories in August, and returns this Jan. 11th for winter stories. You’ll be glad you came.
