30 Lunch & Program Country Music with Bob Moran & Dalton Little There will be no Red Hat trip in August. A September trip is in the
works — hopefully for the fourth Tuesday. Please stay tuned. Because we’ll be doing so much good learning on Wednesdays, we’ve tried to balance the experience with a lot of good fun on Thursdays in August and September. Hope you like the lineup!
We held our matching campaign in June, where donations were matched by a generous donor. You all raised $4,500! This is just wonderful to see how much you support the center. We want to thank everyone for donating! This money will be used to continue to provide quality programming for the center. The Katie Reed Golf Classic took place on June 16, and it raised $10,500 to benefit the center. We had a beautiful day on the golf course, despite the heat, and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day. As always, thank you.
BROWN BAG MEDICINE REVIEW WITH WALGREENS: TUES., AUG. 7 A “brown bag review” of medicines is when you bring all of your medications to the pharmacist to review. This practice can identify medicine errors and misunderstandings that would otherwise be overlooked. On Tues., Aug. 7, from 9 to 11, pharmacists from Walgreens will come to the Center to review our medicines. (Due to a family
emergency, we had to cancel the brown bag review originally scheduled earlier this year.) NOTE: In order for the review to work, the pharmacist must know everything you take. Please bring all of your prescription and over-the-counter medicines, including: pills vitamins and supplements herbal medicines topicals and liquids injectibles and inhalants There is no charge for this review. Maximum 12 people.
Welcome to Bible Study at FiftyForward College Grove! It has been my privilege to study and lead Bible studies for nearly 30 years. I look forward to the time we will spend together studying
scripture and discovering how it means to lead us in our daily lives. Hope to see you in August, on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 9:30! Rhonda
Vanderbilt physician, Dr. Andrea Ramirez will come to the center on Thurs., August 16, to present more in-depth information about the A ll of Us Research Program and how you can join. All of Us seeks to enroll one million people from diverse back-
grounds in order to speed up medical breakthroughs. Join us on the 16th, from 10 to 11 am, to learn more about the program. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
Sarah NOTE: TCAD Cosmetology Students originally scheduled July 24 will be here Wed., August 1 at 9:30
Writing Etc. has been a staple at the center for many years. Luke
Peg Augustine returns this August 9th to delight us with folklore from Appalachia — stories that are old as the hills, but new to us. Peg’s tales can stir up fond memories, and they always make us laugh. Please make lunch reservations by Tuesday, Aug. 7.
You may know of Louise Lynch. She was the Williamson County Archivist for nearly twenty years, and has made College Grove her home for over fifty years. Her husband, Clyde, served as a county commissioner for 37 years. And her daughter, Judy Herbert, is a current county commissioner. Louise will be here on Aug. 23 to talk about her book, Moonshine and Murder: Crimes in Williamson County, Tennessee. The book chronicles stories and excerpts from the Review Appeal newspaper from 1901 to 1969, a time when this quaint county sometimes resembled the wild west. Be here to get the scoop! Please make lunch reservations by Tues., Aug. 21.
We’ll have a great afternoon August 30, when Bob and Dalton return for some old fashioned pickin’ and grinnin’. They’ll perform a nice set of traditional country music for us, and a good time will be had by all. Please make lunch reservations by Tues., Aug. 28.
We lost a good one when Ginger Rogers moved to New Mexico. The meeting format is straightforward. Everyone in the group brings in what they’ve written, on whatever topic or event they choose. Mainly, they take turns reading their essays aloud while the others listen. People don’t usually ask for critique. But it’s available. And, if it were me, I would definitely ask! What an opportunity! To have Luke there, to give me feedback on the mechanics and flow of my writing — for free! Holy Cow! I wonder if any of you have been meaning to write some things down for your kids. Things about what life was like when you were growing up. Did you have indoor plumbing? What chores did you do? Did you raise your own food? What did Christmas look like in your home? As a teenager, what did you do on Friday nights? Is there any one Friday night that stands out in particular? Who was your first sweetheart? If you would like write, but lack the motivation, consider this your invitation to Writing Etc. The structure will help. The group meets on first and third Thursdays at 1. Writing Etc. is free to members.
