A Conversation with Ashford Hughes Sr., Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer from the Mayor’s Office Diversity is understanding and appreciating interdependence of humanity, cultures, and the natural environment. Practicing mutual respect for qualities and experiences that are different from our own. Understanding that diversity includes not only ways of being, but also ways of knowing; equity: Equity is about ensuring fairness and respect. It means people feel supported, valued, trusted and able to achieve their personal best, and it means taxpayers and other stakeholders are treated equally.

Celebrating Mothers Day Seanne G. Wilson is the Director of the Women’s Center at Tennessee State University, Her name is as unique as she is, and it is pronounced: ‘SEE –an-Wil-sun.’ Seanne is more than the Director for the Women’s Center at Tennessee State University, she is an Author and is enjoying and appreciating the initial success of her new literary project, Overcoming Me! – Overcoming You! “What do you do when you’ve blamed everyone but yourself for your issues and circumstances only to find out you were the problem? Seanne spoke about appreciating your mother, knowing your worth, not settling for less and Celebrating yourself and your Mother. She recently lost her Mother, so the topic about Mothers day was extremely personal and enchanting; there was so much love and excitement in the room. Seanne plays a great game of Spades!!!! She’s going to join our members in their tournament. We look forward to partnering with the Tennessee State University Women’s Center in the upcoming school year. The Women’s centers mission is to promote gender equity by raising awareness of women’s and gender issues, women’s leadership, and celebrating women who challenge, motivate, and inspire. The TSU Women's Center is committed to meeting the diverse identities of all community members in support of the campus mission through programming, events, individual and student group advising, and individual engagement opportunities.

Hope is what makes us look forward to tomorrow. Without it, our days have little meaning, and contemplating the rest of our life can depress us enormously. We all need hope in a major way. Where do we get it? Within ourselves-by looking at our talents, our strengths, our ability to endure and to expect and demand better.
