J . L . Tu r n e r C e n t e r April Newsletter FiftyForward enriches the lives of adults 50+ by providing pathways to health, well-being, and lifelong learning. April 2015
Letter from a Guest Writer Dear Turner Center Members, I hope all is well with everyone at the Turner Center! I have missed being at the center, but am really enjoying my new role as a social worker with the FiftyForward Care Team. I wanted to share some exciting news with y’all since you have been such an important part of my life over the past two years. My husband and I are thrilled to announce that we are expecting our first child in early August! We recently discovered that we are having a boy and we have decided to name him William James Walsh. I hope to stop by the center sometime soon and I will definitely come by after William is born to introduce him to the awesome Turner Center members! We are very excited to enter this new phase in our lives and look forward to what the future holds for our growing family. All the best, Megan
Thanks to all our Volunteers! April is the month the FiftyForward J. L. Turner Center honors its Volunteers Volunteer Recognition Month. We have so many people who give hours of their time every month to help the staff of the Turner Center do their jobs everyday. From the Drivers who take you on the trips, to the Ambassadors who sign you up for events, to those who do
behind-the-scenes work you don’t even know is happening, each person is special in our eyes and hearts. We will give a special luncheon to our volunteers this month, themed “Thanks a latte!” to give back a small portion of what they’ve given us. Please take part in recognizing the valuable work done by these remarkable people by saying “Thanks a latte!”
What is a FiftyForward 1st? Recently, a member asked, “What are all these (FF1)’s I see in the newsletter?”. This is a great question! Many of you may have been waiting on Spring to arrive to venture out and revisit the Turner Center. We are glad you are back!!! Let me explain the (FF1)’s. In January, we joined a FiftyForward agency wide initiative that encourages people to do something for the first time or do it again for the first time in a long time. Well, that is what the (FF1)’s are all about. They are opportunities for you to experience a FiftyForward 1st. The activities for April are as follows:
Learn how to line dance. Make and sample sushi. Experience an art exhibit from an insider’s point of view. Taste Asian/Thai cuisine. Participate in a focus group. Milk a goat.
