Guest Speaker: Michael C. Moore, State Archaeologist and Director Tennessee Division of Archaeology Topic: The city of Brentwood contracted with the archaeological firm of DuVall & Associates, Inc. to identify and remove graves within the construction area, a process that took over three months. The team confirmed the presence of graves and post patterns for houses and the town wall, or palisade. This fascinating presentation documents pottery, dated 1200-1300 A.D. as well as evidence that suggests that the first North American inhabitants crossed the Bering Strait from Asia at least 15,000 years ago.

CarFit: Why is CarFit important?

Friday, April 11 at 9:00 to 1:00 CarFit is an educational program that offers mature adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles "fit" them. The CarFit program also provides information and materials on communityspecific resources that could enhance their safety as drivers, and/or increase their mobility in the community.

Why is CarFit important? Older drivers are often the safest drivers in that they are more likely to wear their seatbelts, and less likely to speed or drink and drive. However, older drivers are more likely to be killed or seriously injured when a crash does occur due to the greater fragility of their aging bodies.

A proper fit in one's car can greatly increase not only the driver's safety but also the safety of others.

How is a CarFit check completed? At a CarFit event, a team of trained technicians and/or health professionals work with each participant to ensure they "fit" their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety. A CarFit check takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Firearms Training Simulation Brentwood Police Department

Monday, April 28 at 8:45 Instructor: Captain Alan Hardcastle The most dangerous situation for a police officer is a confrontation with someone who is armed. To prepare for that circumstance, Brentwood police use a state-of-the-art, sophisticated shooting simulator that puts officers through a multitude of scenarios, from a traffic stop to encountering a burglar in a darkened warehouse. World’s Biggest Fish Fry with Joan Saturday, April 26 On The Road with Joan goes to the annual World’s Biggest fish fry in Paris, TN. Cost: $27 per person. Lunch: $11.00 for catfish and drink on your own.

Bell Buckle and Miller’s Grocery Day Trip

Friday, May 9 at 10:00 Lunch at Miller's Grocery. Miller’s was in continuous operation as a country store for over 75 years in the once bustling whistle-stop community of Christiana, TN that included a 3-story hotel, a bank, a telephone office and some 15 other businesses. In 1995, the building was restored as an antique-filled, country cafe featuring home-style Southern cooking and award winning "from scratch" desserts. The name "Miller's Grocery" remains in memory of long-time proprietor Mr. Stanley Miller and as a tribute to a by-gone era.

Bell Buckle, Tennessee, a r ailr oad village of pr eser ved and r estor ed Victor ian homes and chur ches, is nestled among the hills, farmland and walking horse country of Bedford County, Tennessee. The Webb School, within walking distance to downtown, is a world-renowned college preparatory boarding and day school and is an integral part of the history of this unique town. Trips and Tours TPAC Million Dollar Quartet Sunday, May 11. Leave the Center at Noon.

Million Dollar Quartet is the name given to recordings made on Tuesday December 4, 1956 in the Sun Record Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. The recordings were of an impromptu jam session between Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash. The stage musical Million Dollar Quartet, written by Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott, dramatizes the Million Dollar Quartet session. Tickets are located in rear orchestra. Showtime at 1:00.

Party on the Patio at Martin with Bluegrass and Burgers Wednesday, May 7 at 3:30 Back by popular demand Jon and the bluegrass guys and gals will join us for a fun filled afternoon with great music and delicious grilled burgers with all the fixings, sides and dessert. As many of you know, we have a lovely back porch, that creates the setting of being at a lodge in the mountains. Join us as we gather on the back porch enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Tuesday, May 13 at 3:00 Meet Chef Raz Ademosu: If running a catering business is difficult, then imagine having to run one without a telephone, silverware-or even a store. That’s exactly what restaurateur Raz Ademosu’s grandmother did while he was growing up in his small hometown of Ibandan, Nigeria. Friday, May 23 at 10:00 Let’s enjoy an afternoon in historic downtown Franklin. We will have lunch at Grey’s. Set in an 1876 Victorian building in Historic Downtown Franklin, Tenn., the Gray Drug Co. was a landmark pharmacy here for nearly a century. In 2013, after careful restoration, the three-story GRAY’S on Main was unveiled, honoring Tennessee’s cultural heritage through fresh spirits, flavors and sounds. Eclectic and traditional, GRAY’S menu reflects the best of the South in food, with a focus on locally and regionally sourced ingredients. After lunch, we will head over to CC’s Pies. Beading Buds Give your time for a great cause

Thursday, May 22 at 1:00 Instructor: Sherry Armstrong Sherry wants to ask you to volunteer your time to help make beaded bookmarks for the Center to sell. All you need to do is donate an hour of your time to help the Martin Center raise funds that will directly benefit our Center and our members.

This beaded bookmark craft is easy and fun to make and you will be helping raise money for the Center. They will fit any theme just by changing the colors and shapes of the beads. Supplies included. Please sign up if you can join us.

Founded in 1827 by William Clark of Lewis & Clark fame, Paducah attributes the city's origins and prosperity to its strategic location at the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee rivers. The River Discover Center, a Save America's Treasures project by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is housed in Downtown's oldest standing structure and offers state-of-the-art exhibits highlighting the history and habitats of the Four Rivers Region. The focal point of Paducah’s abundant architectural treasures, the 1905 Market House tells the story of a town that has survived tremendous challenges, including the Battle of Paducah during the Civil War and the disastrous 1937 flood. Visitors from across the globe marvel at the artistry of The National Quilt Museum Collection quilts and curated original themed exhibits.
