@makeupbyyelena
From Celebrity Makeup Artist to Director of Miss Grand Virginia, Washington DC & Maryland Glenkora Comte— Exclusive Interview By Klenkora Comte
Yelena, take us back to the beginning. What first drew you to beauty? I have always been fascinated by transformation. Beauty gives you the opportunity to bring out something that is already there—the personality, confidence, and individuality of a person. For me, makeup was never simply about creating a beautiful face. It was about understanding the person sitting in my chair and helping them feel like the best version of themselves. You have worked as a celebrity make, up artist. What did that experience teach you? It taught me that everyone has a different relationship with beauty and confidence. Working with celebrities also taught me the importance of trust. Before a major event, photoshoot, or appearance, people are putting a lot of trust in you. You have to understand their vision while also bringing your own professional expertise.
Fashion Week Passport: How does your makeup background influence your work with contestants?
to be able to communicate, make decisions, support others, and remain focused on the larger vision.
It gives me an understanding of the importance of detail. In pageantry, presentation includes so much more than makeup. It is posture, movement, hair, wardrobe, styling, communication, facial expression, and the way you connect with an audience.
Leadership isn’t about being the loudest person in the room. It is about creating an environment where other people can succeed.
Everything works together to tell a story.
That pageantry is only about physical beauty. Beauty is part of pageantry, but it is only one element. Communication, confidence intelligence, authenticity and professionalism.
But I always remind contestants that no matter how beautiful the styling is, confidence is the most important accessory. Fashion Week Passport: What qualities do you hope to see in a titleholder? I look for substance behind the beauty. I want to see ambition, compassion, discipline, authenticity, professionalism, and a willingness to grow.
Most importantly, I learned that confidence cannot be created with makeup alone. Makeup can enhance you, but confidence comes from within.
A titleholder represents more than herself. She represents a platform, a community, and the values she chooses to stand for.
What inspired you to enter the world of pageantry?
Every woman has a story, and I want to see her own that story.
It felt like a natural progression in my career. As a makeup artist, I had the opportunity to transform someone’s appearance and help them feel confident. Through pageantry, I can take that experience further by helping women develop their confidence, communication presentation, and sense of purpose.
Fashion Week Passport: What would you tell a woman who believes she isn’t “pageant material”?
Becoming Director of Miss Grand Virginia, Washington DC & Maryland allows me to bring together my experience in beauty, fashion entertainment, and leadership. What does the crown represent to you? The crown represents opportunity. I always tell women that the crown should not be viewed as the destination. It is a platform. It gives you visibility and the opportunity to share your story, represent something meaningful and inspire others. What you do with that platform is what truly matters. How has your definition of beauty evolved? Today, I see beauty as individuality. Beauty does not have one face, one body, one style, or one personality. It can be elegant, dramatic, natural, powerful, unconventional, or completely unique. The most beautiful thing a woman can have is confidence in who she is.
What is the biggest misconception about pageantry?
A crown may bring attention, but character determines how you use that attention. Fashion Week Passport: What is your vision for Miss Grand Virginia Washington DC & Maryland? Yelena: My vision is to create a platform where women can grow. I want contestants to feel that they are entering an experience that can challenge them, inspire them, and help them discover new possibilities. Whether someone wins the crown or not, I want her to leave stronger, more confident, and more aware of her own potential. What does this new chapter mean to you personally?
Yelena: I would tell her not to decide that before she gives herself a chance. There is no single definition of a pageant woman. You don’t have to be perfect. You simply need to be willing to learn, grow, and challenge yourself.
Yelena: It represents growth. My career in beauty gave me the foundation to understand transformation from the outside. Now, through leadership and pageantry, I have the opportunity to be part of a deeper kind of transformation.
Sometimes the experience reveals strengths you didn’t know you had.
Sometimes one chapter doesn’t really end. It becomes the foundation for the next one.
Fashion Week Passport: Fashion plays such an important role in pageantry. What does fashion mean to you?
The Final Word
Fashion is storytelling. The right look should communicate something about the woman wearing it. It should make her feel confident and reflect her personality. I believe fashion should complement you, not overpower you. Fashion should never wear you—you should wear the fashion. What has becoming a director taught you about leadership? Leadership has taught me the importance of listening. When you are responsible for an entire organization and the people within it, you have
From the makeup chair to the director’s chair, Yelena Scheidler’s career continues to revolve around one powerful idea: transformation. For her, beauty is not simply about appearance. It is about identity, confidence, expression, and possibility. As she leads a new generation of women through the world of pageantry, Scheidler is redefining what it means to wear a crown—not simply as a symbol of beauty, but as a platform for purpose. THE CROWN MAY BE THE MOMENT. THE TRANSFORMATION IS THE JOURNEY.

Fashion With Purpose: Unique Fashion Show Champions Sustainability at New York Fashion Week 2026 International designers unite creativity, cultural heritage, and responsible . By Klenkora Comte
Unique Fashion Show transformed Park Avenue Christian Church into an international platform for fashion, art, and sustainability during New York Fashion Week. Organized by the Unique Fashion Foundation Association, the event brought together designers from diverse cultural backgrounds to explore a more responsible and innovative future for fashion.
B
eyond the runway, sustainability emerged as a central conversation, highlighting circular design, textile waste reduction, material innovation, and the importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship. Among the most compelling approaches was that of Brazilian designer Ariane Santos, founder of Badu Design, who transforms discarded automotive seatbelts and industrial textile waste into fashion accessories, demonstrating how overlooked materials can become valuable design resources. The international lineup featured THE AUDACE PARIS by Sarah Khorchid El Kerdi (France), Volskaya Atelier(Kazakhstan), Lady Suits by Emmely Roloff (Germany), TURSUNKULOV by Timur Tursunkulov (Kazakhstan), ARA Art and Design Studio by Sanaz Masoumi (United States), Tensengral, Raushan Anuarbekova (Kazakhstan), Mahin Olimzoda (presented by Tajikistan Fashion Week), and Ariane Santos / Badu Design (Brazil). Each brought a distinct creative perspective, from cultural heritage and refined craftsmanship to experimental textiles and innovative garment construction. Particularly relevant to sustainability, Tensengral explores textile structures designed to minimize material waste, while Badu Design demonstrates the practical possibilities of upcycling and socially conscious production.
By bringing international design together with sustainability discussions, Photographs of Unique art, technology, courtesy and business, Fashion Show underscored an essential message: fashion’s future depends not only on aesthetic innovation, but also on how thoughtfully resources are used, traditions are preserved, and creative opportunities are developed.
Special recognition Iveta Maurerová Miss ČR 2018 @ivetaem
For Fashion Week Passport, the event represents a growing shift toward fashion with a wider purpose—where international collaboration and responsible design help redefine what it means to create beautifully and consciously. The future of fashion is not simply about what we wear, but about what we choose to preserve, transform, and create.

VINTAGE LUXURY PHOTOSHOOT
There are places where history seems to whisper through every doorway, every wrought-iron balcony, and every weathered façade. For fashion designer Glenkora Comte, New Orleans’ French Quarter became precisely such a place — a living portrait of romance, architecture, femininity, and timeless style.
28 July2025
O Glenkora Comte — A Poetic Journey Through the Fifties “Life is poetry. Fashion is love.”
From this enchanting corner of Louisiana emerges “Vintage Love in Louisiana,” a collection inspired by the elegance of the 1950s and the unmistakable spirit of one of America’s most historic and romantic neighborhoods. The collection is a journey back in time — but never a simple reproduction of the past. Glenkora revisits the femininity of the fifties through original sewing patterns from the era, reinterpreting their silhouettes through her own tailoring, reconstruction, and recycling techniques. Vintage garments and historical references are transformed into contemporary expressions of elegance, creating a wardrobe that feels both nostalgic and remarkably alive. The French Quarter serves as the collection’s architectural muse. Its graceful balconies, intricate ironwork, colorful façades, arched windows, and European influence provide a visual vocabulary that translates beautifully into fashion. The romance of New Orleans becomes a silhouette; its history becomes texture; its architecture becomes detail.
At the heart of Vintage Love in Louisiana is the woman who believes that femininity is not something to hide, but something to celebrate. The collection embraces softly structured shapes, refined tailoring, delicate proportions, and the graceful attitude associated with the women of the 1950s. There is an appreciation for classic dressing — for clothing that takes its time, for craftsmanship that can be seen in every seam, and for garments designed to make a woman feel beautiful without sacrificing individuality.
viewed through a romantic lens: the charm of Louisiana, the cinematic femininity of the 1950s, the artistry of traditional dressmaking, and the enduring fascination of vintage style. It is an imagined journey through old New Orleans, where a woman might step onto a wrought-iron balcony at sunset wearing a beautifully tailored dress, her silhouette framed by the architecture of the French Quarter. For Glenkora Comte, fashion is more than clothing. It is emotion, atmosphere, craftsmanship, and personal expression.
Glenkora’s approach to vintage is distinctly personal. Rather than recreating history literally, she allows the past to converse with the present. Recycling becomes an act of preservation; tailoring becomes an act of storytelling.
Vintage Love in Louisiana invites us to slow down and rediscover the beauty of details — a carefully shaped waist, an elegant sleeve, a vintage pattern, a beautifully finished seam. It reminds us that sophistication does not need to shout.
Each piece carries the spirit of another era while remaining designed for the modern woman who loves vintage fashion. There is class without rigidity, elegance without excess, and romanticism without nostalgia becoming costume. This is fashion as memory — but also fashion as renewal. The collection reflects an America
Sometimes, it simply walks gracefully down the street. And perhaps that is the enduring magic of vintage fashion: it allows us to borrow a little romance from the past while writing our own story in the present.
Class. Elegance. Romanticism.
