Editor’s Note Here in Baltimore, as I wrote this editor’s note in mid-June, we’re enjoying a comfortable 72-degree morning. No one is really complaining about the cloudy skies or the 80 percent chance of rain.
This is roughly the scenario we had in mind when we started planning our summer issue. Of course, many of our readers don’t live in Baltimore, but wherever they are, there’s a good chance the days are getting longer and hotter, activities are heading outdoors, and even for DMV people. We cannot skip to mention our young and attractive model of the Month: “Keri” photographed in exclusive for our magazine in Virginia Beach from our professional photographer Victor Ustariz. (See pages 18,19, 20,21,22 & 23). So let’s lighten up, we thought. Give our readers a magazine
to flip through while sitting on the porch after dinner, or to roll up and stuff in their beach bags. Books! We thought. We’ll gather together a selection of the best night- clubs and happy hours. In this issue of course! We have a new travel and exotic destinations... Brazil! (See pages 28 & 29). Fiesta DC Magazine now is celebrating their 50 editions for 5 consecutive years, offering the best quality in design, events and articles, our JuneJuly edition initiate the awaited summer, in this special issue we offer the best “Swimsuits 2014”, bikini contest, outdoor dining, sidewalk terraces, backyard decks and lawns, swimming pools, lakes and boats are where it’s all happening. People are gathering outdoors and everyone’s drinking wine, beer, cider and coolers and enjoy, live and celebrate your favorite team of the world-cup in
Brazil this already started!. Also we are adding a bikini fashion show from the designer of the moment: “Emily Gonzaga” with the most attractive models in Georgetown DC (See pages 40, 41, 42 & 43). In this special edition we will be pampering to all readers guys with a fully and completed edition with attractive girls posing their swimsuits, this event was held last week in Falls Church, Virginia. To finalize this editorial…dance, eat and drink! What’s more we have at the disposition of our readers -the FIESTA app- for free download, if you have an android phone :) Enjoy the issue and the summertime!

“La Gran Gala de GALA” in Honor of the kids
GALA Hispanic Theatre’s annual fundraising gala took place this Tuesday, May 13 at the theater in the Columbia Heights district to honor three leaders in the arts, business and philanthropy. This year entitled “La Gran Gala de GALA”, the event was a huge success, graced with dignitaries and leaders in the arts. In attendance were the Ambassador of El Salvador, His Excellency Ruben I. Zamora Rivas; Ambassador of Spain to the Organization of American States, His Excellency Jorge Hevia; Former Ambassador of the United States to the Organization of American States, Luigi Einaudi; Chair of the D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities, Judith Terra; and the Cultural Attache of the Embassy of Spain, Guillermo Corral, with his wife, Natalia Orjales; among others. Other special guests included Julio Bocca, world-renowned ballet dancer from Argentina, and Maria Noel Riccetto, prima ballerina of the Ballet Nacional del SODRE.
The evening was hosted by Angela Franco, CEO and President of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and co-host Pedro Biaggi of Radio El Zol, two leaders in the Hispanic community. Dazzling performances by QuinTango (tango quintet) and soprano virtuoso Elisa Cordova serenaded the evening’s guests and honorees. Moving performances were also presented by Alina Collins Maldonado and members of the Paso Nuevo Youth Performance Group.

Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain (now officially known as the United Kingdom). Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the National Day of the United States. uring the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised
the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail: The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.
12 - www..fiestaDCmagazine.com /June 2014
Adams’s prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the muchpublicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress. Historians have long disputed whether Congress actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, even though Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin all later wrote that they had signed it on that day. Most historians have concluded that the Declaration was signed nearly a month after its adoption, on August 2,
1776, and not on July 4 as is commonly believed. In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Although not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but another Founding Father who became a President, James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831, thus becoming the third President in a row who died on this memorable day. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872, and, so far, is the only President to have been born on Independence Day.

Schirtzinger Pageantry has always been a passion of mine. After seven and a half years in the pageant life, I became intrigued in modeling. With only being 5’2, I knew I had a disadvantage of being a runway model or a high fashion model. I started modeling in 2009, when my friends told me I was not going to get very far in life. I was more determined to prove them wrong, even though I was an extremely shy young lady. After five years of modeling I have evolved from a shy young lady to a young woman who is spontaneous and courageous. People always mistake me for a girl who is high maintenanced, but in all honesty I am just like you. I am down to earth. I am country girl at heart striving to fulfill her dreams. I am a toddler teacher which allows many opportunities to be creative such as singing and dancing. In my spare time, I love to work out, go-karting, and creating my own lyrics to music. I am a nascar fanatic, Dale Jr is my all time favorite. Redskins is my favorite NFL football team while Virgina Tech and alabama are my favorite college teams. Everyday is a different lesson for me, but all in all.. i have learned to love myself for who I am.

Health & Fitness This month I talk to Stacy J about Pilates instruction. I have taken a few of her classes before to help strengthen my abs but I didn’t realize how much more there was to Pilates and the history behind it. Donna McGinn
LMT, Physique competitor. email@example.com http://www.donnamcginn.com https://www.facebook.com/ing. https://www.facebook.com/DonnaMcGinnAthlete
Are their different types or levels of Pilates instruction?
There are numerous Pilates certifications. A few of the most renowned ones are Peak, STOTT, Romana, and Balanced Body Pilates. They all have a comprehensive program certifying instructor’s in mat and all apparatus. These are the types of certifications you should look for in an instructor if you want to experience classical Pilates the way it was designed. Most health clubs and gyms offer Pilates as group fitness. This is not classical Pilates, more of a Mat Pilates /fitness fusion. Instructors do not have to have a comprehensive certification to teach these types of classes.
What is a Reformer?
The Pilates reformer is the most popular Pilates apparatus. It provides assistance and resistance in all of the movements. Using springs to create the tension, it teaches you control, balance, flow and deep stretching and it’s a ton of fun.
Do you need a Reformer to practice Pilates?
Pilates Mat work is the true method of Pilates. Just your body and gravity moving to create a harmonious dance. The reformer and other apparatus aid in helping movement one may struggle with on the mat. Weather taking Mat or Reformer classes, I always encourage clients to practice their Mat work at home as much as they can.
What is the history behind Pilates?
Pilates is a movement system designed by Joseph Pilates to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. Joseph Pilates was himself a performer and a boxer. He spent 20 years studying and apprenticing all form of physical regimens. He first devised a system of original exercises known as the “Mat work” around 1914. While he was a nurse/caretaker he developed ways to help bedridden patients by using the springs from the beds for resistance to help move and rehabilitate them. That was essentially the first reformer. His love of harmony in mind and body and knowledge of human movement put him ahead of his time. We still use his original format know as classical Pilates today.
What are the main target areas of a person’s body when training in Pilates?
In Pilates our main focus is on your “powerhouse”, or core as it is commonly called. This includes the 29 muscles that make up your core, shoulder to hip and glutes. Your powerhouse is the center of movement and must be controlled before you can adequately move your limbs.
What should clients get out of training in Pilates? Body/mind?
The main goal after a Pilates session is that you leave feeling better then when you arrived, mentally and physically.
How long and how often should someone practice Pilates to see changes?
The most popular quote from Joseph Pilates is “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference. In 20 sessions you’ll see the difference and in 30 sessions you will have a whole new body.” Pilates can be done every day. It is low impact and promotes re-alignment of the body. The more you do it, the more you see and feel the results.
What should students look for in an instructor?
There are so many Pilates certifications out there and most instructors are classical, true to Joseph Pilates movement system. The exercises are usually the same, maybe with different focus. For example; breath control, or a different order of exercises. Picking an instructor can be personal choice. Pick an instructor with a comprehensive certification and one whose personality and class atmosphere match your preference.
What should students avoid?
In Pilates we don’t push through the pain. The goal is to move as well as you can, with your given body, on that day. Our bodies’ change every day depending on how we sleep, eat, work, stress, etc. If you feel uncomfortable or any pain, always tell your instructor. There are various ways to modify the exercises so you can get the most out of them without discomfort.

Pines of Italy Category: Ytalian food Location: 3111 Columbia Pike, Arlington, VA 22204 Phone: 703-979-0348 www.pinesofitalyarlington.com
Report by Andy Vizzo
The desert sandy color building situated near the corner of Columbia Pike and highland Street in arlington, Virginia is The Pines of Italy restaurant, a well-known local landmark with a history dating back to 1948, when the famous Italian architect Coco conceived and built the structure. It became a popular night-out for many Washingtonian political elites including President Harry Truman, who was a frequent patron, spending his leisure time there mingling with friends and taking puffs of a cigar. Today, Pines of Italy continues that tradition, serving fine wines and delicious foods to its customers in D.C. metropolitan. The restaurant was renovated in 2010 and is currently owned by Mr. Ali Tajalli and his partner Mr. Ali Tati. A friendly welcome gives first-timers a cozy feeling in a family oriented atmosphere. The dining room is casual with a touch of elegant Italian decorations, an array of carefully arranged dishes on
covered tables, and soft music playing background. The menu gives diners a variety of selections, from authentic European wines to delicious Italian dishes. The generous serving portion and beautiful presentation will satisfy any customer’s taste palette. The signature dish is the Capellini di angelo alla monilino, a suave taste of thin pasta sautéed with olive oil and served with large perfectly cooked shrimps, scallops and fresh cherry tomatoes with basil leaves; it will satisfy any food critic. Other excellent dishes include the Veal Scallopini a la Francese and the Pesce Spada a la Griglia. Among the popular appetizers are Steam Clams and Steam mussels sautéed with white wine and soaked with olive oil and garlic red or white sauce. If you love Italian food, want to impress your date, or just want to be pampered, then you must book a reservation here. Prices are inexpensive to moderate.
