The Goodlife Boys held their first ever Ocean City Music Conference, featuring 12 DJs from MD, DC, NY and NJ as well as dancers, models, and promo teams representing the entire MidAtlantic party scene! The music conference was held on May 25 from 12-7 at The Party Block on 17th St and Coastal Highway in Ocean City, MD. If you are into dance music and wanted something more out of your Memorial Day Weekend in Ocean City, then this party was for you! GIRL of the Month

Valeria Volynkina started modeling as a hobby in Lugansk, Ukraine, where she was born, at age 17.

After receiving an International Relations degree, she moved to The United States and continued to pursue various modeling opportunities. Her modeling career began to reach another level as she started to get offers from different designers and was to taking part in various fashion shows in Washington, DC. Valeria has a very busy schedule now, working with prominent photographers, hair stylists and fashion designers.

Valeria says, “modeling is my Passion. It is a great way for me to express myself, where I can be in different images. It is very interesting and challenging at the same time, but I want to keep working hard to achieve my goals in a professional modeling career. One of the important things, in my opinion, is to have a vision to achieve your goals, then everything becomes a reality...It’s not about just being a good-looking girl, but also you should have a good personality, which is really important.” Valeria’s hobbies, during her free time, include playing tennis, swimming, cycling, dancing, watching movies and driving Lamborghinis in the summer. She has also been playing piano from a young age. Valeria is very determined and says she plans to work hard to achieve her goals and reach the top of her modeling career. She has ambition and says she is not afraid of any challenges.

Cantante, compositor, guitarrista, músico y productor, Juanes fue declarado por el diario Los Angeles Times como “la figura más importante de la música latina en la última década”, y por la revista estadounidense Times como una de las “100 personas más influyentes del mundo”.

FM: En el último año ha ido aumentando tu entrega, tu ayuda a causas sociales, como la lucha contra las minas unipersonales y de apoyo humanitario, educativo y médico a los niños, tantas cosas... y ahora incluso has llevado esa preo- cupación social a tu nuevo disco.

La gira realizada antes del retiro en el que pre paró su nuevo disco, “Mi Sangre Tour” fue la más extensa realizada por un artista latino: millones de fans en 170 conciertos en arenas y estadios de 31 países, a lo largo y ancho de 4 continentes.

FM: La primera la grabaste a dúo con el argentino Andrés Calamaro, y la segunda con el alemán Capino... son canciones con mensaje, de compromiso...

JUANES: Pensando en los problemas sociales que nos acosan y preocupado por ellos es que compuse dos temas, relacionados con la migración y con la explotación de obreros en las minas, y los incluí en el disco: “Minas pieGanador, entre una lluvia de premios, de 12 dras”, que tiene que ver con el grave Grammys Latinos, es actualmente el artista problema en las minas, y “Bandera de manos” latino de rock que más discos vende en el que pone de relieve la gran diferencia social mundo (8 millones de copias) y que predomina actualmente, el problema de a la vez el activista social más los indígenas, de los campesinos, de los inprominente del género. migrantes...

Quiso lanzar el disco en el Colegio Montessori de Bogotá, rodeado de niños que cantaron con él. Así es Juanes, original y sensible. Por la noche, recién, la presentación oficial para los medios. JUANES: Sí, dos canciones que definiría como “intencionalmente pensadas”. Canciones muy importantes para mí, porque representan otro lado, que a mí me interesa mucho, y las he grabado pensando que, finalmente, tal vez no se escuchen en las programaciones de radio.

FM: El título me gusta, me va, pero recordando que Mickey Rooney, por ejemplo, tituló su autobiografía como “La vida es demasiado corta”, a los setenta años; ¿cómo un triunfador, a tu edad, ya se plantea que “la vida es un ratico”?

JUANES: En realidad, son palabras de mi madre.

Fiesta DC Magazine visitó Cazabe Restaurante para degustar del sazón caribeñó, nos impresionó mucho el ambiente tan ameno que se vive, su música, sus adornos con colores alegres decoraban el lugar sintiendosé como un pedacito de República Dominicana aqui en Maryland.

La degustación empezó con lo siguiente:

PLATO FUERTE: Longaniza con Tostones Su presentación, en un plato grande ordenados los tostones alrededor y al centro las longanizas creando forma atractivos a la vista. Qué delicia... la longaniza va frita acompañada de unos tostones muy tostaditos, esta combinación es perfecta. El sabor de la longaniza es incomparable, ya que es originaria de Republica Dominicana, sus ingredientes penetrantes en olor y sabor. Con su aroma genuino, desde el primer mordisco con sabores muy definidos en sus especias como rosmery, cilantro, comino, pimienta y muchos.

For the third consecutive year, Argentina set off the largest wine celebration in the world. The celebrations organized by Wines of Argentina featured 106 events in 76 cities across 50 countries. The world paid tribute to Argentina’s flagship variety.

Wines of Argentina, the organization responsible for the image of Argentine wine worldwide, hosted Malbec World Day 2013 on April 17.

Alberto Arizu, President of Wines of Argentina, attended the events accompanied by Francisco Perez, Governor of Mendoza, the province that prides itself on being the main producer of Argentine Malbec.

The city of Sao Paulo Brazil gathered 120 guests in the Malbec Sensations event organized by the Argentine Chancellery. WofA organized two Winebars, two Wine Challenges, one Enoblog, one Instavinhos (on Instagram) and promotions for retailers in the Decanter and Zahil wineries. In Parapua, plastic artist Clandestinos painted a wall mural reminiscent of Malbec, the Paulista city, and Brazil’s flag in a fisheye lens perspective.

This year, Wines of Argentina decided to highlight the value of this varietal as an artistic and cultural expression, connecting it to the communicative force of street art.

Accordingly, artists like Run Don’t Walk, Jaz, Pum Pum, Panama Club, Planeta Cees, Os Clandestinos and Cekis painted wall murals in Mendoza, Sao Paulo, New York and London.

Key Events: Cambalache, the event that took place in London, invited over 700 attendees to immerse themselves in the culture and spirit of Argentina. The attendees tasted 150 of the best wines by 28 top Argentine wineries, relished a selection of typical street food from Buenos Aires and witnessed live street art performances with three of the most innovative and talented Argentine graffiti artists,

York, Malbec World Day celebrations took place in three different locations and gathered over 2,000 wine lovers: City Winery, De Gustibus at Macy’s Herald Square, and the emblematic Metropolitan Museum of Art, which hosted, besides a tasting, a press conference for the local media. This year, Wines of Argentina also acted as the official sponsor for the renowned Tribeca Film Festival. WofA provides the wines for the more than 90 events taking place between April 17 and 31. Additionally, on April 17, the festival’s web site was dressed in Malbec and graffiti artist Cekis painted a mural in Greenpoint, the trendy, hipster neighborhood, intertwining the concept of Malbec with Latin American culture in the US. Malbec World Day was also celebrated in Los Angeles, Washington DC and Chicago, in the US; and in Toronto, Alberta and British Columbia in Canada, among other places.

Malbec World Day celebrations continue to grow year after year thanks to the work of Wines of Argentina, the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, and the interest this varietal awakens around the world. In its third edition, Malbec World Day showed a 40% increase in the number of countries participating in the celebrations, a 70% increase in the number of cities hosting the events and a 48% increase in the number of events that were carried out.

Social networks and several online platforms, an area of intense work for WofA, were not oblivious to the celebrations. Over the last month, the number of fans on Wines of Argentina’s Facebook fan page grew by 30%, with a total reach of over 378,000 likes on the week prior to Malbec World Day. In April, the hashtag #MalbecWorldDay reached 3.3 million Twitter accounts and generated 13.8 million tweet impressions (number of times tweets appeared under the hashtag ).

In addition, 2768 people used the hashtag, creating 6757 tweets. Malbec World Day as a topic reached 18.1 million accounts, generating 81.3 million impressions; 22,600 people produced content, creating 43,700 tweets.

Additionally, those consumers who used the hashtag #MalbecWorldDay and shared their pictures on Instagram had the chance to see them on the Malbec World Day official web site (http://www.malbecworldday.com/index.php/instagram/), thus getting to take part in the international celebration.

In this year’s edition, more than 1.5 million people joined Malbec World Day celebrations all around the globe. Over 300 Argentine wineries proudly presented their Malbec to a wide variety of audiences. Wineries also participated in communicative initiatives and promoted their own events in celebration of the day.

JUANES: Por supuesto, Llegué a Los Angeles, después de haber gozado de cierta popularidad en Colombia, con el grupo Ekymosis, y práctica- mente empecé de cero; luchando...

FM: ¿Has cometido errores y has pagado por ellos?

JUANES: Los he cometido, muchísimos; me han costado muy caros, he pagado su precio y he aprendido de ellos.

FM:Tu última crisis, la de la separación, fue tan imprevista...

JUANES: Me lo vas a decir...

De pronto, mi lado humano se quebrantó, y salí de mi casa.

FM: Volviste a tiempo... y tu mujer te esperaba.

JUANES: Mi mujer y mis dos hijas.

FM: De nuevo produces el álbum, con Gustavo Santaolalla.

JUANES: No sé qué sería de mi carrera sin Gustavo.

FM: ¿Dónde fue el proceso de producción?

JUANES: Estuvimos grabando en mi estudio, en Medellín.

Queríamos que sonara “muy colombiano”, fusionando mi

rock con otros sonidos muy de mi tierra, como el vallenato, la cumbia, la guasca, el mapalé... y también otros distintos, pero muy latinos, como el flamenco, el tango, la trova y el bolero.

no me alcanza la gratitud. El apoyo de la radio es necesario e insustituible.

FM: “La madre” de las fusiones.

JUANES: No. Ya he “descansado” bastante. No por estar tumbado al sol, sino por no vivir en un aeropuerto y en un avión.

Presentamos el disco, con la banda en vivo, en Londres en una convención de mi sello.

Después, la gira mundial: Colombia, España, Francia, Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos, México... pero saltan- do, una semana aquí́ y otra allá, un día en San Juan de Puerto Rico y al día siguiente en Los Angeles...

JUANES: Lo mezclamos todo en Medellín, con los coros, las guitarras, las voces y algunos teclados. Después fuimos a los estudios de Los Angeles, y allí grabamos los demás instrumentos: bajos, cuerdas, baterías y el resto de los teclados. Finalmente, todo lo mezclamos en Miami.

FM: Los temas, otra vez son todos tuyos.

JUANES: He estado dos años componiendo todos los temas.

Desde la última etapa de la gira “Mi sangre”, y durante el año sabático que me tomé, que fue cuando me vine a Colombia.

FM: El departamento de marketing funciona a todo dar. Fernán Martínez es el rey en esto. En Colombia los 40 principales de Radio Caracol tocaron una canción cada hora y después sólo canciones tuyas durante 12 horas seguidas. En Miami fueron tan originales como para cambiar el nombre de una popular emisora por un día y bautizarla como “Juanes 105.7 FM”...

JUANES: En todas partes la radio está siendo un gran apoyo,

FM: ¿Un plan de promoción, así de inmenso, no cansa?

FM: Me decían en la casa discográfica que, además de España y de Hispanoamérica, el disco sale en otros 77 paí́ses. ¿Dónde dirías que está el secreto de tu internacionalización?

JUANES: Cuando empezamos, queríamos sonar como éste o queríamos hacerlo como aquél y después nos dimos cuenta que al final lo que teníamos que hacer era buscar nuestra propia esencia y fue cómo un proceso de búsqueda interior, y hoy en día así lo siento. Lo que yo hago, simplemente, es música que tiene que ver con Colombia, con todo lo que yo soy, todo lo que yo hago, lo que amo, lo que sufro... viene de ahí.
