26th District CITY STAFF UNDERGOING Court Mantle CHANGE IN MANAGEMENT Brandenburg Out as Georgetown’s City Manager Passing to Donna King by Ann Marie Ludlow
Although no one could ever
replace the inimitable Judge Billy Ray Stubblefield, last week Governor Perry appointed Leander Attorney and Municipal Court Judge Donna King to succeed him in Williamson County’s oldest court, the 26th District. “Judge Stubblefield is a lion of justice,” King says. “He has all the qualities of a true judge and it is hard to see him go and not have him as a mentor. I feel rather nostalgic after his many years of service and I am so grateful and honored to be able to carry on in his court.” Judge King will be sworn in at the Historical Courthouse November 14th after an arduous application process and the better part of a year spent vigorously campaigning for the 368th District Court bench during the last election against Judge Rick Kennon, who won that bench by a narrow margin. When asked about the two experiences, King notes, “Running for office is a massive amount of work in the moment and it’s about doing what you think is best to make an impression on voters. Applying to the governor’s office involved scrutiny of the entire body of my work and my career by a select group of people. The control was pretty much out of my hands. But both were entirely about being true to who I am; my resume, my work ethic and my earnest desire to serve Williamson County as a Judge.” King says the primary campaign was a unique experience and while it was difficult coming to terms with the outcome, she grew more and more certain over See Judge, page 14

tendered his resignation, effective immediately. His announcement came during executive session, and the terms of the agreement of his departure were not publicly disclosed. The council agreed to accept his resignation in a 7-0 vote.
