2022-23 Annual Report

Building a Foundation for the Future

The FICPA Scholarship Foundation has embarked on a five-year strategic plan, one that fits the scope of our expanded mission and vision. While we remain committed to helping active students close the financial gap, we also aim to provide support, engagement and resources to young CPAs as they move along the career pathway.

Vision

To attract talent and cultivate the accounting profession.

Mission

To provide support and foster success for current and future CPAs. in Florida.

To fulfill our vision and mission, the Foundation will operate according to the following core values: Provide financial scholarships to students to reduce the burden of entry into the CPA profession. Empower career advancement opportunities for current CPAs. Encourage, support, and promote diversity to create a more inclusive profession. Provide a bridge between students, academia, and the business community. Assist to develop students and young CPAs as future leaders of the community and serve others.

Letter from the

Chair A

s an audit partner at CohnReznick, I see firsthand the strain that our talent shortage places on firms across the accounting landscape. But this issue is not ours alone. CPAs play a vital role in the larger business community, and a shortage of practitioners has downstream impacts on clients – large and small – who turn to us for high-quality financial reporting and rigorous tax compliance. As Chair of the FICPA Scholarship Foundation, I’ve personally met with students across the state who are passionate about accounting but who face financial hurdles in meeting the requirements for licensure. It’s our Foundation that helps bridge the gap. We support today’s accounting students so that they can become tomorrow’s CPAs.

Steven Morrison 2023-24 CHAIR FICPA SCHOLARSHIP

“I encourage you to play a role in restocking the talent pipeline. Attend our events. Become a sponsor. Send your best recruiters. Helps us help you.”

But our work is only possible with your support. We rely on your generosity, through donations and sponsorships, to award our scholarship funds. FICPA Scholarship Foundation events not only serve as fundraisers but also as valuable networking opportunities. We connect CPA firms with hard-working, motivated and promising recruits, who have already demonstrated their ability to overcome adversity and achieve their goals. If you’re already one of our benefactors, I thank you for your continued support. And if you’re looking to get involved, I encourage you to play a role in restocking the talent pipeline. Attend our events. Become a sponsor. Send your best recruiters. Help us help you. CPAs serve the public interest and function as the backbone of business. It’s up to all of us to support the next generation and secure the future of our profession. Appreciatively,

Steven Morrison 2023-24 Chair, FICPA Scholarship Foundation

Together during 2022-23, we

Hosted the Accounting Scholars Leadership Symposium with 23 students from 11 Florida colleges and universities. Connected with more than 1,300 students during 41 college campus visits to promote the value of the profession, our scholarships and FICPA membership.

Successfully recruited more than 750 accounting students to become more engaged and learn more about the profession through FICPA Membership.

Recruited more than 100 volunteers, who brought their hearts and hands to 11 service projects around the state.

Unanimously voted to launch new CPA Exam Prep Scholarships to help cover the cost of review materials needed to pass the CPA exam. (Launched in 2023-24.) Assisted 23 young professionals from 14 firms in growing and expanding their leadership skills via the FICPA Leadership Academy and the AICPA’s Women’s Global Leadership Summit.
