TALK OF THE TOWN

Greetings, FIBC Members and Supporters,

Praise the Lord! August was a power-packed, Spirit-anointed DEI month for FIBC! DEI stands for diversity, equity and inclusion. We began with our Back to School Fest on the first Sunday led by Pastor of Family Life Thomas Claiborn IV and FIBCO Family Services, Inc Executive Director Akilah Stewart, when we welcomed 200 families to the FIBC Campus, beginning with worship, then food, fellowship, fun, and all kinds of gifts to equip students and their families for the 2024-2025 school year.

In the middle of the month, we celebrated our Annual Women’s Weekend with a Women’s Roundtable on Saturday and two amazing worship services on Sunday, when our FIBC Dance Ministry was reintroduced under the leadership of Sister Tracy Lewis. We headed toward the end of the month with our Annual Congregational Check-Up where nearly 100 leaders and workers attended. The 4.5 hour gathering was filled with Spirit-guided creativity, information, reflection, discussion, and direction for finishing 2024 strong. We appreciate our executive directors, staff pastors and other staff members for their servant leadership

Our 2024 FIBC Theme Focus for September is THANK YOU, LORD, FOR OUR JOURNEY TOGETHER AS A PASTOR AND PEOPLE EXPERIENCING YOUR GREAT FATIHFULNESS! It is a month in which we celebrate significant anniversaries related to FIBC, beginning on September 1st, with the 30th Anniversary of Sister Nancy D. Hooper serving as a member of our FIBC Staff. Next, on September 8th, we will celebrate the Lord sustaining FIBC for 119 years since 1905, as well as yours truly serving on the FIBC Staff as Senior Pastor for 47 years Later in the month, we will recognize FIBCO Family Services, Inc for being one of our three non-profit organizations for 38 years, serving the least, the lowly, the left out and the languishing by providing food, clothing, assistance, and housing.

Lastly, with two months remaining before the 2024 General Election, we, as a pastor and people, will be partnering with Faiths United to Save Democracy and other non-partisan organizations to register persons to vote, recruit poll chaplains, and then to get all of us out to vote in one of most consequential elections in the nation’s history as well as deciding on several propositions on the Arizona election ballot My prayerful hope is that each of us who votes with allow our Christian principles, especially related to JESUS AND JUSTICE, to guide us in every vote that we cast.

Keep the faith and be encouraged!

Pastor Stewart
