TALK OF THE TOWN

Greetings, FIBC Members and Friends,

How does it feel moving closer and closer to being normal again after three years-plus of the pandemic? Here’s how I can tell that COVID-19 is not as impactful as it used to be—when I visit hospitals and my doctor’s appointments Most health professionals, for the most part, are not wearing masks anymore on their jobs However, I am not suggesting that you and I should not be vigilant and careful about the diminished capacity of the coronavirus that “rocked our world” early in 2020. I have my little sanitation practices that I maintain when I am in public places, even at FIBC. All I am saying is that we are experiencing a return to normalcy. And for that I am very thankful to God!

June’s 2023 FIBC Theme Focus is LET’S SHIFT TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LORD’S “BUT” EMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE! That’s a must for FIBC’s surviving in order to thrive in the early 21st century We commend Elder April Hawkins, our Pastor of Family of Life, for her vision and commitment to FIBC’s young people We are making some strides in our Children, Youth and Young Adult Ministries, with more to come. Please prioritize praying for and supporting our young people in tangible ways. We are enthused that our Annual CYYA Sunday and Annual Robert N. Nesby Scholarship Ministry Convocation will be on June 11. In addition, we are launching our virtual Vacation Bible School on Monday, June 12.

Lastly, I am so grateful that the Lord continues to use the pastor and people of FIBC for leadership beyond 1141 E. Jefferson Street. We will be hosting several community events in June. The Lord has us interacting with Baptists, Pentecostals, nondenomonationals, Catholics, interfaith groups, governments, businesses, large and small nonprofit organizations, health professionals, educators, locals and globals as well as everyday people We used to sing a song, “Lord, I Am Available to You”. That sums up who we are with a Purpose, Vision, Values and Strategy. Ain’t God good?

Keep the faith and be encouraged!

Pastor Stewart
