TALK OF THE TOWN

Greetings, FIBC Members and Supporters,

Welcome to Spring 2025 “Arizona-style” with record-breaking temperatures in the upper, upper 90s! However, we are grateful for being residents in the Valley of the Sun with its over 300 days of sunshine. We are also at the midpoint of Lenten Season 2025. Praise God for our first-ever Lenten Revival, beginning with Dr James E Wright II of FIBC preaching our Ash Wednesday Noonday Worship Service and Pastor Kenneth C Curry, Jr of the Friendship Baptist Church of Yorba Linda, California preaching nightly, March 5-7. Of course, the climax was the FBC Mass Choir joining us on Friday night to support their Senior Pastor and yours truly.

The focus for our 2025 FIBC Theme for April is: OUR SPIRITUAL ASSIGNMENT—PASSING THE LORD’S BATON GENERATIONALLY EMPOWERED BY OUR CRUCIFIED AND RESURRECTED SAVIOR. This will help us to spiritually prepare for Holy Week 2025. We begin this month with Why Mahalia Matters: Mahalia Jackson and the Politics of the Spirit, Thursday, April 3, 6:008:30 p.m., FIBC, in partnership with the ASU Humanities Institute. There will be more information about this signal event in this newsletter and on FIBC social media Two weeks later, God-willing, we begin Holy Week with Palm Sunday which will also be our Annual Evangelism and Discipleship Sunday, followed by Maundy Thursday Communion Worship Service. On Good Friday, FIBC will again host the African American Christian Clergy Coalition’s Seven Last Sayings of Jesus Christ. Then, Resurrection Sunday will be full with three worship services 5:30, 7:30 and 11:00 a.m. P.I.C.B Pray. Invite. Come. And Bring family, friends, coworkers, neighbors and strangers. We conclude the month by celebrating the 55th Anniversary of Sister Brenda G. Hankins being a leader in our Music Ministry, on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27.

Please keep the FIBC Senior/Lead Pastor Search Committee in your prayers as its members continue to prayerfully and diligently screen over 60 persons who have expressed interest in becoming our next Senior/Lead Pastor They are on schedule to present a top candidate by the end of April.

Keep the faith and be encouraged!

The Resurrection story is a powerful one: Jesus was an innocent man who was betrayed by a friend and put to death unfairly. Yet that wasn’t the end of the story - three days later He rose again and the world was forever changed.

Who was this man? This Easter we invite you and your entire family to experience for yourself who Jesus Christ is and how He impacts our lives today as we seek to pass the message of Christ’s love and compassion for all to the next generations as part of our spiritual assignment; to pass the baton generationally empowered by our crucified and resurrected savior He is Risen!

THE OLYMPICS

Every 4 years the nations of the world come together to celebrate, to test the limits of mankind; through generations of training, DNA, and tactics, to see who is the best

Churches are like nations, FIBC being our nation in the Kingdom of the Most-High. In our FIBC nation we all have roles: the Eldest of our team have become trainers, teachers, coaches, board members and committee members in an effort to improve and ensure the success of our future generations.

The Middle-Aged Adults are few but strong. The Young Adults have great ideas of how they see the way things should be. Their problem is everyone is tired, busy and or missing.

The Youth are just watching us and listening to our interactions and wondering what church is all about. Especially since now, they can YouTube EVERYTHING, they see where we are lacking!

Our nation of FIBC always needs to become anew by; keeping what works, changing what does not, adding new tactics, and new member DNA. This is called blending.

The blending process of the DNA of new members, the DNA of middle and young adults and the DNA of elders; this is the FIBC nation. What are we made of? For 120 years FIBC has been a leader in the valley. What must we do to keep FIBC a top nation in the Kingdom of the MostHigh

Communication is key; when coaching, a great coach lets the athletes be themselves when competing to achieve the greatest amount of success, then, in private, or at practice, corrects any mistakes. They ask, not admonish their players. “That worked, I wouldn’t have thought of it that way vs We don’t do it like that”. Our words, your words can stop the blending process and the Nation building, Kingdom building.

The youth need training from; the Elders, the Middle Age and Young Adults. Our future depends on it as well as our legacy.

Right now, we are passing the baton to the Middle Age and Young Adults who; have the energy, enthusiasm and ability to keep learning and represent us in this Olympic race, but, will we win the race?

Let’s keep practicing our baton passing, knowing it’s an Olympic thing!

Lastly, we are always under attack by demonic spirits; we are at war! Until love, strength and justice fill even the darkest places. We then, must fill those lonely, dirty and dark places in our lives and the lives of others with the light of love. With the light of prayer, praise and fellowship to our Most High God.
