May 5 marked the date of the annual Sp r i n g Play, this year entitled Lock, Stock � Lipstick, presented to thepublic by the drama students at Clare­ mont Senior High School. The cast included S. Rait, C. Nygren, R. Robinson, A. Dickinson, S. V i n c e n t , J. Monroe, D. Grimes, R. Oake, S. Chalton, P. Kaye, J. Lee, K. Ad a i r , and L. Moehring. All that attended agreed it was a success.

The "spirit" is passed from Pam Madlem to Sandy Gore through Connie Gallardo, the Spirit of Girls' League.

Every year certain members of the senior class participate in Government Day. During this day they learn the inner-workings of city government by fi 11 i n g municipal posts and carrying out city business. This year's day proved to be both constructive a n d enjoyable fo r the students.


"Rhapsody in Blue," depicted by a blue-toned fountain and blue styro­ f o a rn s t a r s , was the t h e rn e o f t h i s year's Junior-Senior P r o rn . A very beautiful and excit­ ing ev e n i n g was high­ lighted by the crowning of Prom Queen, Melinda Saunders, a n d her four princesses: Libby Gale, J a n i c e Lee, Elizabeth Webster, and Toni Fink. The royal court shows its dancing prowess with or without shoes.

After enthusiastic campaigning and hours of sus­ penseful waiting, the names of the new 1961-62 Student Body officers were announced Friday, April 21, during fifth period. According to tradi tion, hopeful candidates staged the carppaign as­ [£ sembly, but the victors enjoyed the first fruits i of their new offices at 1 the informal E 1 e c t i o n Dance, where they were introduced for the first time to the Student Body.

As the athletic year draws to a close, we come to the Quarterback Club-sponsoredAll-SportsBan足 quet, which honors all players of Varsity and "bee 11 sports and the Rally Club. At this time the John P. Evans Blanket awards, the most valuable player awards, and top G. A. A. honors are given.

The Class of 1961 fulfilled all the requirements of a great senior class. They were the backbone of Claremont's ath­ letic teams, they kept school spirit high, and many were scholastically superior. There is confidence that the "class with the w i 11 to win" will be the 1 e a d e r s of to­ morrow's world. June 13, 1961, marked a great division in these people's l i v e s. Inevitable s u c cess is the next stop.

The Senior Breakfast, honor足 ing the Class of 1961, was held at the Ho l i d a y Inn on June 12. In addition to the wonderful food, w h i c h was thoroughly enjoyed by the Seniors, numerous awards and scholarships were presented to the m e m b e r s of the class.

Civic-minded students receive mem足 bership in the Ephebian Society.

The Club de Damas award is presented to Connie Gallardo.

After graduation ceremonies, parents and graduates gathered at the Pomona College Stu足 dent Union Building. Dinner was served cafe足 teria style. The evening was highlighted by the Virgin Islands Steel Band. The evening of festivities was concluded with breakfast and bowling at the Thunderbird Lanes.

The catered dinner was enjoyed by Pat Rains, Bob Bush, and their families.

Pat Rains and Charlotte Thomas take advantage of the dance music provided by Chuck Marlowe and his orchestra.

This year's annual Baccalaureate service was held on Sunday evening, June 11, in the CSHS audi足 torium. Refreshments fopowing the service were served on the side lawn by parents of the students. Highlighting the evening was the sermon, "Words M ake T h i n gs Happen" deliv足 ered by the Rev. Jo h n McCand足 less, pastor of th e Claremont Pr e sb y t e r ian Church.

The parents watch p r o u dly as the seniors march into the auditorium to begin the ser足 vice.

Students and guests receive refreshments on the side lawn after the service. The Rev. John McCandless, speaker of the evening.
