In the MSAC Invitational, the team placed 15th out of 158 teams entered. Coach Martinez, in his first year of coaching, led the

team to its most successful season since 1966. In the C.1.F. finals the team

fi nished 7th. The 1969 season, according to assistant coach Snake J. Side

winder, was "a resounding success".

For the Wolfpack basketball team, this was a rough season, sometimes even heart-break ing. Despite the setbacks there was always excitement. The gyms were always packed

with Claremont fans on both sides. The highlight of the season was down at Pom

ona. ThP. Wolfpock were heavy underdogs. The score see-sowed back and forth; then Pomona, with only

5 minutes remaining,

reeled off 11 straight points and the game

looked over.

But back came the Pack with

9 straight points. Claremont almost had the

Devils until Pomona stalled and barely pulled

out a victory.

The scrappy Wolfpock team was led by three

year letterman Kevin McCarthy. He supplied

the biggest offensive punch the team had. Kevin was not treated kindly by opposing

teams, often being double teamed. He also led the team in rebounds.

The playmaker and sparkplug of the Pack

was Bob Hunter. Steve McCarthy came off

the bench to compile the best shooting per

centage, both in field goals and free throws.

Mike Weinberg, a iunior, came on to play great defense and many times got the team

running again. Mark Layman, a guard, provided great boll handling and consistent

shooting. Paul Hammond and Bruce Wilson were 1he remaining forwards. Hammond,

though not big, often drove to the basket like

it was all his, and big things ore expected from Wilson next year. And who could for get when Dove Blanche, alias "The Tree," would go after the ball and knock anyone

down to get it.

It may not always have been a successful year, but it was always exciting.

Soccer is truly an art of its own. Soccer is precise timing on the part of every team member. It is complete control of your body. It is endless running, up and down the field. Soccer means power, speed, grace and plenty of entertainment. So far Americans haven't mastered the game the way it should be played. But watch out.

Frustration, exhaustion is evident

after a loss. You can feel the

miles that you've just run. But after a victory you can feel the

tired legs or the pulled muscles,, because you won.

in the S.A.L. was 5-2, good for a 3rd place in dual meets and 3rd 168 pts.)

in the S.A.L. Finals. "This year's total

varsity record was 12-4.

The Wolf

pack gave Upland a very strong dual

match but lost to the champions by o slim margin of two matches.

This year's league champions were Donn Cross 1106), Mike Adams (l 15),

and Mark Black (l 48).

At the conclusion of this season the

otal varsity record for Claremont for

the past 3 years was 54 wins and 8

losses with the J.V.'s compiling a 8-6 record. The J.V. team was also

5-2 in S.A.L. and placed 3rd in the

S.A.L. Finals.

The outlook for next year is very

good. The team is losing only four

starters and the team is young and

will have some varsity experience. The J.V. and freshman wrestlers will

help fill in some of the spots of the departing seniors.

-'-,,· eleven months of work, this edition of "El Espiritu" is complete. It's an odd feeling for all of us 1a realize that there are no mare pictures to be taken, • o e layouts to do,· and no more deadlines lo meet. Through all of the late hours and hectic deadlines, I'm sure we were all praying 'for this 1ime, just at the book was done. I know I did!
