STUDENT GUIDE A RETREAT FOR FUT URE STUDENT LEADERS
ADVISOR WELCOME FROSH MOSH 2020
Hello and welcome to Florida Gulf Coast University! I hope you are ready for an educational experience and your first look into how to get involved on campus and how to manage the university experience. Ultimately, the goal is for you to enjoy yourself and have a GREAT time while you are here. Throughout your experience this weekend, try to keep an open mind, make some friends, relax, take it all in; but most importantly, let us guide you through this journey! We are in it with you and we are here for YOU! Just some insight, your peer Mentors are active members in our FGCU community. Many of the Mentors are past Frosh Mosh participants, are in Student Government, are active members and officers in several Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), and sit on University committees. So, feel free to ask about their experiences! I hope that this is a great start to your collegiate experience. Welcome to the Eagle family but better yet, welcome to the MLD family! #GoEagles #wingsup

MEET THE DIRECTORS FROSH MOSH 2020
Hailey Countryman (she/her/hers) Student Director
Hello Moshers! My name is Hailey Countryman and I am so excited you have decided to join our crazy Frosh Mosh family! This program is designed to help you create a more in depth understanding of FGCU and of yourself. I am a senior and am studying Elementary Education. When I’m not in the classroom with little kiddos, I am working as the current Student Director of Frosh Mosh! I am also involved in the Student Alumni Association and hold an undergraduate student assistant job on campus. I grew up in the Fort Myers area and love that I get to share my college experience with local friends and family. I am so grateful to be serving as the director of this year’s program, despite our virtual limitations. Frosh Mosh has been one of the best parts of my life going on three years now. I challenge each and every one of you to give yourselves to this program, be present and participate, be open minded, and be willing to meet new people where they are. I hope this program offers you new perspectives, friends, and comfortability with Florida Gulf Coast University. The Multicultural and Leadership Development Center will be your new college family if you let it. Thanks for taking this journey with us, welcome to Frosh Mosh!
Jah-Naika Lopez (she/her/hers) Assistant Director
Hello everyone, I am Jah-Naika Lopez. I am a rising senior majoring in Public Health. One of my key values in life is growth and I have been able to achieve just that for myself by being a part of the MLD family! Through the MLD Center I have been able to meet others who are also committed to self-growth as well as guiding my peers along their own journeys by filling different roles such as: Director of LEAD Team, Assistant Director of Frosh Mosh, and multiple Mentor positions. I have also been able to further my own growth with mi familia in the Dominican Republic Outreach Program (D.R.O.P.) and along with mis hermanas in la Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Incorporada! All of these programs have played an integral role in my development and I am looking forward to my future in all of them!

Skylar Allen (she/her/hers) Peer Mentor
Hello, I’m Skylar Allen, but I go by Skye. I am currently a senior graduating this fall majoring in Integrated studies with a focus in cannabis, as well as a minor in Race and Ethnic Studies. I was born and raised in South Jersey, and then went to Murray State University for a year and a half. During that time my Mom moved to Fort Myers and convinced me to tour FGCU. I transferred down here, and now my Mom will also be walking across the graduation stage with me. My involvement with MLD started with being a Mentor for Emerging Eagles and I have loved my time with the team so much. When I’m not at school I love to bake, sew, and hang out with my dog, Oliver. I am forever grateful for MLD and the amazing friendships I’ve made through my involvement. I am excited to begin this new journey as a Frosh Mosh Mentor!
Sophia Amvrosiatos (she/her/hers)

Hi everyone! My name is Sophia Amvrosiatos and I am a sophomore majoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing. I’m a bubbly person who loves to motivate others. I encourage love for all things especially our Earth. My hobbies include yoga, meditation, hammocking, and reading. This is my second time as a Frosh Mosh Peer Mentor. I also attended Frosh Mosh as a mentee in 2018. My other involvement on campus is within the math department as an Instructional Assistant for Elementary Calculus. I love being part of a team and meeting new people. Can’t wait to meet you all and create a loving community.

I am a double major in Finance and Management with a focus in Financial Analysis and International Business. On campus, I am involved with this office not only as a Frosh Mosh peer Mentor, but also as the Director of our Emerging Eagles program. I am part of the Honors College here at FGCU and I am also involved with the office of First Year Experience, where I’m sure many of you have seen me as the Parent Crew Leader at EagleView Orientation this summer. I really look forward to experiencing the joy of this program and can’t wait to see you all grow and blossom in your time at FGCU!

Alysha Day (she/her/hers)
Peer Mentor
Hellooooo everyone! My name is Alysha Day and I am a sophomore majoring in Resort and Hospitality Management with a minor in Political Science. I am from West Palm Beach, FL and I enjoy singing, dancing, and serving the community. I am of Haitian, Canadian, and Cuban descent, and I speak a total of four languages. My favorite color is yellow and I love rom-coms (especially anything Nicholas Sparks). At FGCU, I am a part of the Dominican Republic Outreach Program (DROP), the Haitian Student Organization, the Haitian Dance Troupe on campus - KDDT, and now MLD’s Frosh Mosh Peer Mentor team. I am so excited to meet you all and serve as part of this team, for Frosh Mosh was the opening door to all of my greatest opportunities and experiences here at FGCU.
Noah Deassuncao (he/him/his)
Peer Mentor
My name is Noah Deassuncao, and I am from Springfield, Illinois. I was originally born in Chicago, Illinois but I was then adopted and raised in Springfield for most of my life. I am currently a freshman, double majoring in both psychology, and business management. I really enjoy hanging with friends and doing literally anything. It can vary from going to the beach, or just getting together to chill in a hammock on campus, talking. I also enjoy being active, whether it’s physically, in the community, or on campus. I am very competitive, so if anyone challenges me to try their workouts, I enjoy trying to prove them wrong. I am very involved on campus, I am a Head lifeguard for Campus Recreation, an Orientation Leader, and heavily involved in MLD. I also give time on weekends to the Florida Native Plant Society located in Naples.
Cedric Dunham (he/him/his) Peer Mentor
What’s up everyone? My name is Cedric Dunham, and I am a senior here at FGCU majoring in Integrated Studies. I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (shout out to Broward County). I enjoy playing video games competitively, exploring new music and sounds, and eating. ALL THE TIME. I am super excited for Frosh Mosh as it is another opportunity for me to get more involved here at FGCU. While here I’ve been able to join a Greek letter Organization, create my own podcast through Eagle Radio, participate in Dance Marathon, help create a new org on campus (NAACP), and overall become more in tune with being engaged with the campus and the community. I can’t wait for Frosh Mosh as I know this will be another experience, I will not regret being a part with FGCU, and more specifically with MLD!
MEET THE TEAM FROSH MOSH 2020
Gabriela Giron Suarez (she/her/hers) Peer Mentor
Hello everyone, my name is Gabriela Giron Suarez but I go by Gabby G. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Accounting with a minor in Spanish. I was born and raised in Havana, Cuba, then moved to Canada, and finally ended up here in the States. I started my leadership journey through MLD as a participant in all the programs that they offer, and today I can proudly say that I am forever grateful for these opportunities. Besides my involvement as a Frosh Mosh Mentor, I am currently serving as a Peer Mentor for the Emerging Eagles program and as an on-site coordinator for LeaderShape Institute. I really love FGCU and my MLD family and it’s because of their influence that I have been able to do all these amazing things and give back to the FGCU community. This is going to be my very first experience with Frosh-Mosh and I am extremely excited and ready to meet you all and have a great time!
Elise Heidlebaugh (she/her/hers)
Peer Mentor
My name is Elise Heidlebaugh, and I am a freshman majoring in legal studies. I am from a small town in Ohio, but my parents, sister, and I moved to Fort Myers three years ago. Throughout high school I participated in sports like cross country, track, and cheerleading and stayed involved through clubs like leadership development, Honor Society, and Political Science. I chose FGCU because of their extensive options of majors and minors, opportunities with local clubs and organizations, and the morality of the school and what they are founded on. In my first semester of college, I have gotten involved with Ignite College Student Ministry, Emerging Eagles, Alternative Break, and CHAARG. One day, I hope to work in environmental law and focus on non-profit or mission-based organizations. In my free time, I enjoy working out, running, reading, volunteering in the community, and spending time with my friends and family. I am looking forward to being a Frosh Mosh Mentor because of the connections and relationships I can make with the other Mentors and future mentees. I am so excited to grow and potentially help students navigate through their first semester of college the way my Mentors helped me with mine.
Danielle Irving (she/her/hers) Peer Mentor
Hi friends! My name is Danielle. I am a first-generation college student. I started at FGCU as an Exercise Science major. However, through experiences and involvements, I decided to change to my current major, Criminal Justice with a Psychology minor. Hopefully pursuing an MSW after graduation. My ultimate goal is to be a voice or advocate for anybody who can’t for themselves, especially children and young adults. During my time at FGCU, I have been involved in several things such as Emerging Eagles, different MLD programs, I’ve also worked as a Research Assistant and a Campus Tour Guide, played Women’s Rugby, and served as the Outreach Coordinator for the Dominican Republic Outreach Program. I hope that even though I haven’t been a part of the Frosh Mosh program as a mentee, I can still be a Mentor the best way I know-how. I am so excited to hopefully impact those around me while receiving just as much, if not more in return.

D.R.O.P. has allowed me to look at life in a completely different way and has definitely been a big part of molding me into the person I am today. I am very excited to also be a part of the FROSH Mosh team this year! Can’t wait to meet everyone!!
Denise Lobos (she/her/hers) Peer Mentor
Hello! My name is Denise Lobos. I’m currently a sophomore majoring in Social Work with minors in Spanish and Psychology. I’m of Colombian and Chilean descent. I was very introverted and shy during my freshman year, but through various involvements such as these two and D.R.O.P., I was able to blossom. I still have a lot of growing and learning to do but I’m so excited and confident in doing this through Frosh Mosh.

I started with MLD by going to Leardershape institute and although it was a very hard and long week, I am extremely thankful for because it has opened a lot of opportunities for me and has connected me with great people that I am happy to call my friends. I didn’t get the chance to participate in Frosh Mosh my incoming year and I’ve only seen Frosh Mosh from the MLD Instagram story, so I am very excited to work with the team this year.
