In Other Words

WRITING AND IDEAS AUSTRALIA

OzAsia Festival’s writing and ideas program In Other Words returns for another year of conversations between poets, novelists, journalists, playwrights, performers, and creatives from around the world.

Discussing power, identity, community, sexuality, gender, and racial stereotypes, In Other Words is a three-day extravaganza held across Adelaide Festival Centre and the largest showcase of Asian and Asian Australian writers and thinkers.

Curated by Jennifer Wong, In Other Words is the perfect way to spend the final weekend of OzAsia Festival. Full program to be announced in September.

“This weekend-long celebration of Asian Australian and Asian talent from all over the world is a beautiful opportunity to connect, whether it be with international neighbours or with all things Asian in Australia. Thinkers and writers from all walks of life will inspire, provoke, and comfort with unforgettable stories and big ideas, ranging from the familiar to the foreign. I can’t wait to experience In Other Words with you.”

“Now more than ever we need Australia and Asia talking to each other, and we need deep listening. In Other Words is the perfect venue for us to go beyond the headlines and talk about what's animating and preoccupying us as artists, creators, and critically engaged people. I'm thrilled and excited to sign up as a guest curator!” “Last year I could only join OzAsia Festival as a guest via Zoom, and I was instantly jealous of the explosion of conversations, art, and music I could see pouring out of my screen. I cannot wait to hit the ground and be part of it in person. I'm a kid with Singaporean and Indian heritage and grew up with Chinese and Malaysian aunties and cousins. My work as a journalist has sent me reporting throughout Japan and Hong Kong. I've always loved exploring the subtle connections, similarities, and distances between Asia. It permeates the experience of mixedculture kids like me. I can’t wait to hopefully showcase some of those threads at this year's OzAsia Festival.”
