Trip in Tuscia Nell’incessante pioggia di uno dissennato autunno, puntiamo il muso dell’auto verso sud alla ricerca di sole, pietra, storia e di qualcosa di inedito.

Nel tentativo di dar una forma alla nostra idea, mandiamo un paio di messaggi a persone che fino a quel momento erano solo un Nickname o un immagine profilo nel marasma della rete.

In poco meno di un ora arriva la risposta: qui c’è quello che state cercando…

In the never-ending rain of a senseless autumn, we point the car southwards in search of sun, stone, stories and things we’ve never seen before.

In the attempt to get our idea off the ground, we send a couple of messages to people who, until now, had only been user names or profile images in the chaos of the web.

In just under an hour, we get our answer: what you’re looking for is right here...

600 km nel cuore della notte ci fanno risvegliare nel centro della Tuscia, alle porte della città di Brancaleone e ad attenderci c’è Pedro: valoroso alfiere dell’armata Sadomasoclimb, devoto alla spazzola, all’avventura e quelle esperienze che trasformano l’arrampicata di tutti i giorni in qualcosa di raro e creativo.

Pedro e l’associazione Sadomasoclimb, sono un gruppo di arrampicatori come tanti altri, con in più quella voglia di distinguersi non solo per il livello d’arrampicata ma anche per l’iniziativa. Le loro azioni si esprimono con la richiodatura e la salvaguardia di alcune falesie della zona romana oltre alla ricerca di nuove forme d’arrampicata, in un territorio che da quel punto di vista è a digiuno.

L’arrampicata tradizionale, utilizzata principalmente sulle pareti del Gransasso, raramente ha lambito quote più basse se non grazie a loro e a pochi altri che proprio nella Tuscia hanno sperimentato l’approccio Britannico all’arrampicata sportiva.

Il Peperino grigio è una roccia vulcanica che si trova qui e sull’isola di Pasqua.

A testimonianza di questo il Moai costruito da 11 indigeni venuti dall’isola del pacifico alla ricerca di una pietra simile.

Questa pietra, oltre ad avere tacche e buchi che come dicono qui “mozzicano”, a volte si apre in “crepe” spesso irregolari e complicate, dove piazzare le protezioni può diventare una scienza oltre che ad un gioco d’azzardo.

Nonostante queste difficoltà, la voglia di condire l’arrampicata con nuovi ingredienti, ha spinto i sadomaso alla ricerca di alcune linee trad tra i boschi di Bomarzo e Vitorchiano.

600 km travelled through the night mean we wake up in the heart of Tuscia, just outside the town of Brancaleone. Waiting for us is Pedro, valiant knight from the Sadomasoclimb army, a devotee of brushing, of adventure and of all those experiences that transform everyday climbs into something rare and creative.

Pedro and the Sadomasoclimb association are a group of climbers like so many others, but with the added desire of wanting to stand out for their initiative as well as their climbing skills. Their actions include rebolting and safeguarding some cliff crags in the Rome area, as well as seeking out new forms of climbing, in an area that from this viewpoint, is without.

Traditional climbing, mainly used on the walls of Gransasso, has rarely touched lower levels, unless it is thanks to them and a few others who, in Tuscia, have tried out the British approach to rock climbing.

Peperino grigio is a volcanic rock that can be found here and on Easter Island.

This is proved by the Moai built by 11 natives of the island, who came here seeking a similar stone. As well as having nicks and holes that, as they say here, are “chewed up”, these stones open into “cracks” that are often irregular and complicated, where placing protections is as much a science as a gamble.

In spite of these problems, the desire to add new elements to the climbing mix has pushed the Sadomasoclimbers to look for traditional lines in the woods of Bomarzo and Vitorchiano.

Dopo una prima giornata in cui abbiamo onorato le “linee indigene” ci siamo sistemati nel centro del borgo Medioevale ed affacciandoci da una delle terrazze che si aprono sulla valle, abbiamo scoperto che proprio sotto le mura si nascondeva un vero e proprio parco giochi.

Il giorno successivo, con il diradare delle nebbie mattutine ci siamo avvicinati alla fascia di pietra su cui poggiano le mura delle abitazioni del borgo, ma appena saliti in giostra lungo la linea più evidente (una perfetta fessura di mano che sugli ultimi metri si apre a pugno) compare dal terrazzo un integerrimo agente della polizia municipale, che invitandoci a scendere sembra porre fine al giochetto della giornata. Nel tempo che ci prepariamo a respingere l’attacco, raccogliendo le poche idee e parole che potessero giustificare il nostro tentativo d’assedio a Vitorchiano, compare come un cavaliere l’assessore al turismo che, avvertito da un cittadino, si dirige verso di noi a braccia aperte chiedendoci se tutto intorno alla rocca si potesse arrampicare per aggiungere cosi un ulteriore attrazione turistica al borgo medievale In poco meno di 5 minuti sotterriamo l’ascia di guerra con la municipale e diamo vita ad un rapido “clinic” sull’uso delle protezioni amovibili.

A questo punto, con il lasciapassare delle autorità la giornata scorre “spensierata” e al termine assediamo la rocca lungo le 4 evidenti fessure. Sulla pietra, non abbiamo lasciato nulla se non i segni di magnesite.

Le soste sono rappresentate da fittoni cementati che erano già presenti sul posto, al fine di tendere un cavo d’acciaio di cui ci viene difficile capirne il significato….

To be continued? Boh… Lo sapremo dopo l’esito delle elezioni per la nuova giunta.

After the first day, where we honoured the “native lines”, we settled in the centre of the mediaeval village and looking out from one of the terraces overlooking the valley, we saw that there was a genuine playground hidden right under the walls.

The very next day, as the morning mist began to fade, we went up to the stone layers that the village is built on, but as soon as we got on the more evident line (a perfect crack for the hand, which opens to a fist in the last few metres) a principled municipal police officer appeared from the terrace, inviting us to come down, and seemingly putting our day’s fun to an end. In the time it took us to get ready to thwart this attack, trying to put together a few reasons that could justify our attempt to tackle Vitorchiano, the council officer for tourism appeared like a knight in shining armour who, having been informed by a local, approached us with open arms, asking us if it was possible to climb all around the rock, meaning he could add another tourist attraction to his mediaeval village.

A little more than 5 minutes was all it took to bury the hatchet with the council and set up a quick “clinic” on how to use removable protections. At this point, with the permission of the local authorities, the day continued in its “carefree” tone, with us tackling the rock along its four obvious cracks. And all we left on the stone were perhaps a few marks in magnesite.

The breaks came from cemented stops that were already in place to stretch a wire cable, for reasons we failed to understand.

To be continued? I don’t know... We’ll find out after the elections for the new council.

Qualora si evidenziassero questi tipi di difetti, ci si può avvalere della garanzia che ha durata di 2 anni dalla data di acquisto del prodotto. Per i prodotti Rock Slave la garanzia ha validità di 2 anni.

Si ricorda inoltre che: La garanzia non copre difetti causati da utilizzo improprio o dovuti alla normale usura dei componenti in seguito a uso prolungato. L’acquirente deve riconsegnare l’articolo difettoso al punto vendita in cui ha effettuato l’acquisto unitariamente allo scontrino fiscale (condizione di validità della garanzia).

Il negoziante provvederà ad inoltrarlo al distributore o direttamente alla Ferrino. Ferrino provvederà, a sua discrezione, a sostituirlo o ripararlo. Se il difetto risulta non coperto da garanzia, la riparazione sarà eseguita a costi contenuti, comprensivi di quelli di spedizione.

Questa garanzia non limita i diritti del consumatore cosi come definiti dalle leggi vigenti dei vari paesi.

THE FERRINO WARRANTY Every Ferrino item has been studied in every detail and made using the most suitable materials for its intended purpose. The stringent “Ferrino Quality” controls guarantee that products are free from defects in material and workmanship. In the unlikely even that any defects of this type should appear, they are covered by this warranty, wich is valid for two years from the date of purchase. Rock Slave products have 2 years warranty.

We should also like to remind you that: The warranty does not cover defects caused by improper use or normal wear and tear of parts following prolonged use.

The purchaser must return the faulty item to the point of sale where the purchase was made, along with proof of purchase (a condition required for the validity of the warranty).

The retailer will then forward the item to the distributor or directly to Ferrino. Ferrino will, at its discretion, replace or repair the item. If the fault is not covered by the warranty, repairs will be carried out at low cost, inclusive of shipping or postage.

This warranty does not affect the consumer’s statutory rights, as specified by the laws in force in the country of use.

CODICE DI CONDOTTA NELLE RELAZIONI CON I PROPRI FORNITORI Ferrino ha da tempo richiesto l’accordo dei propri fornitori ad operare secondo principi di fiducia reciproca e di assoluto rispetto di diritti umani e dell’ambiente in cui si opera.

Ha pertanto rilanciato un’azione volta in particolare a controllare che non possano verificarsi condizioni di sfruttamento dei minori di 15 anni cosi come previsto dalla convenzione n.138 dell’Organizzazione Internazionale del Lavoro.
