EDITORIAL

How the year is slipping away, the most heard phrase these days all over the world, month nine, and there are only a few days le6 to enter the tenth month of the year. Now, we are discussing in the ;mes of the entertainment industry, especially music, the comments are turning into references to events that are about to happen. For example, the Bill Board conference week from October 2 to 6, once again will be at Messi's new home, yes, in Miami. Another event that is slowly approaching and one that has the industry on edge is the La;n Grammys, which this year are moving from Las Vegas to Seville, Spain.

At MFM, we are also looking forward to the end of the year with great joy, with plans to con;nue growing and to help our ar;sts achieve their goals. The metamorphosis that Roster Magazine has achieved is thanks to all the different companies that support us. Every month, we bring more content, more sec;ons, and above all, what we are passionate about, a lot of music.

In this edi;on, we welcome a new rock group "Los Sugar Daddies," a group formed by Rafael "Fayo" Hernandez, the bassist and vocalist of Riesgo De Contagio, Alex Azambuya, former guitarist of Kerigma, and Eddy Vega, drummer for Paulina Rubio. LSD is a melodic pop group, and their songs are related to the world of "Swingers," "Pimps," and the Chavorrucos who will undoubtedly iden;fy with LSD.

On the other hand, we are very happy because the talented Ceshia Ubau has just won two very important awards at the latest edi;on of the ACAM Awards, which are presented in Costa Rica. We will con;nue working every day to keep improving the magazine and with the challenge of con;nuing to innovate.

I am interested in hearing your opinions, and I invite you to write to us at info@rostermagazine.net. Un;l the next issue with more updates and news.

What is a DSP or Digital Streaming Platform?

The concept of a Digital Services Pla[orm can be a bit challenging to understand because it essen;ally refers to various types of online services, including audio, video, or other content.

A DSP, or Digital Streaming Pla[orm, refers to online services and applica;ons that allow users to listen to music, watch videos, and consume other mul;media content over the internet. These pla[orms have revolu;onized how we consume content by offering instant access to vast libraries of music and video without the need to physically download or purchase the content.

Some popular examples of DSPs in the music industry include Spo;fy, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Deezer. In the realm of video, popular examples include Ne[lix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. These pla[orms have had a significant impact on the entertainment industry, changing how ar;sts distribute their work and how audiences access and consume content.

These pla[orms have had a significant impact on the entertainment industry, changing how ar;sts distribute their work and how audiences access and consume content.

In the context of the music industry, a DSP enables users to listen to music without the need for physical downloads or purchases. These orms store a massive amount of songs in the cloud, and users can access them any;me and from anywhere, as long as they have an internet connec;on.

Types of DSPs:

Interac;ve digital content pla[orms allow users to have an effect on what they are watching or listening to. For example, on YouTube, users can pause, skip, play, search for a specific video, or create a playlist. In Spo;fy, users can search for a song, ar;st, or genre and create their unique listening experience. Even on pla[orms like Ne[lix or Disney Plus, there is an interac;ve experience because users choose what they want to watch.

Non-interac;ve experiences do not allow users to choose specific music, only the sta;on. Live internet TV streaming is also noninterac;ve; users can choose which channel to watch but cannot choose what is on that channel at any given ;me. Some DSP services offer both interac;ve and non-interac;ve experiences for users, such as Hulu Plus Live TV or Sling TV, where users can watch some content interac;vely or live TV as non-interac;ve.

Tipo de DSP

Ejemplos

Interac;vas Spo;fy, Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, YouTube Music

No Interac;vas Pandora (modo radio), iHeartRadio, TuneIn

Ambas opciones Pandora (ofrece modo radio y selección de canciones específicas en su versión premium), Napster, SoundCloud

DSPs receive an average of 40,000 to 60,000 tracks daily. Each DSP has its own features, advantages, and disadvantages depending on its goals and the region it operates in. There are various style guides for each aggregator (regarding how to deliver metadata associated with your release and its cover artwork).

Since the arrival of Napster in 1999, the music industry has undergone an unprecedented digital transforma;on. These pla[orms have not only changed how consumers access music but have also transformed the music industry in terms of distribu;on, promo;on, and content mone;za;on.

Technology con nues to advance, and with it, the music industry. Virtual reality, ar;ficial intelligence, and the integra;on of music into social media are just some of the trends that could shape the future of streaming.

If  nes are worthless, silence prevails... Musicians Fighting for Fair Pay

Introduc;on:

Music is something so powerful that it can move the soul, inspire emo;ons, and bring people together. Behind every musical performance, whether it's on the street, in a small local bar, at an event venue, or in a stadium filled with fans, there's a world of musicians who o6en face significant financial challenges. Here, we will explore the complex issue of fair compensa;on for musicians, from newcomers to those with a track record in the music business, and the responsibility that falls on both the ar;sts and those who hire them (band leaders, singers, entrepreneurs, bar owners, etc.).

The Challenge of Star;ng Out:

For many novice musicians, passion and the need to be recognized for doing what they love are the main driving forces behind their art. However, the harsh reality is that star;ng in the music industry is o6en a significant financial challenge. Many ar;sts face the difficult choice of accep;ng poorly paid or even unpaid performances or paying to gain experience and exposure.

The Evolving Music Industry:

The music industry has changed significantly in recent decades, transi;oning from physical formats to digital music and streaming pla[orms. While this has expanded the reach of music, it also raises important ques;ons about how musicians are compensated for their work in the digital age.

Shared Responsibili;es:

The compensa;on of musicians doesn't rest solely on their shoulders but also on those who hire them, such as the ar;sts they perform for, band leaders, venue owners, entrepreneurs, and promoters. What is the responsibility of these stakeholders in ensuring that musicians receive fair compensa;on for their talent and work? If a musician allows themselves to be taken advantage of or paid less than they're worth, it not only affects their own career but also that of many of their fellow musicians, as well as those who are just star;ng out, because it sets a precedent that anyone can exploit them. It's ;me to change that. O6en, musicians' low self-esteem works against them because they accept less when they feel they are worth less. As a musician, I have experienced this and con;nue to do so constantly. And we should not allow it.

The Value of Live Music:

Live performances are a fundamental part of the music experience. We need to examine how audiences and venue owners can recognize the intrinsic value of live music by financially suppor;ng the hardworking musicians who entertain them.

The Inspiring Story of Freddie Mercury:

Now that we've explored the struggle of musicians for fair compensa;on, I find it very inspiring to remember that even the greatest ar;sts of all ;me had humble beginnings. Let's take, for example, the lead singer of my favorite band and one of the most important musical influences in my life: Freddie Mercury, whose voice and stage presence are legendary in their own right, a masterclass in themselves. However, before stepping onto the world's biggest stages, Freddie worked selling second-hand clothes in Kensington Market in London. His story is a reminder that every musician, no mamer how talented, o6en starts their music journey from the bomom, making their own struggle to stand out and overcome the financial challenge of pursuing this beau;ful career. These stories of humble beginnings show us that the fight for fair compensa;on is a shared experience among musicians at all levels. From newcomers who accept poorly paid performances to icons like Freddie Mercury who persevered through tough ;mes, they all share the desire for their music to be valued and adequately rewarded. As listeners and music lovers, we can learn from these stories and support musicians in their quest for fair payment for their art.

"Musicians are architects of emo;ons, their work deserves recogni;on and respect."

Conclusion:

Music is a cultural treasure that enriches our lives in countless ways. We all have a role to play in ensuring that musicians are properly rewarded for their contribu;on to our culture. Together, we can work towards a future in which musicians of all levels of experience receive the compensa;on they deserve. Musicians, don't give in, demand fair pay for your work.

Harmonizing Diversity: A Fresh Look at Inclusion in the Music Industry

A Column with Social Commitment

The music, that universal art that unites us through sounds and emo:ons, has the poten:al to reflect the richness of our differences and promote inclusion in its purest essence. It's something that connects us, oBen without even speaking the same language. However, in a world that aspires to equality, respect, and diversity, how is the music industry performing in this area? In a commitment to address this important ques:on, allow me to introduce myself. I am Manu Medmart, CEO at We Are Industria Musical, and I want to present you with this column where I will write to you about inclusion policies in the music industry.

Beyond the Melody

Music is not just a sequence of notes or moving mathema:cs; it is an in:mate reflec:on of the society that creates it. This column has a profound purpose: to explore how music can serve as a tool for social change, a means to combat racism, sexism, and xenophobia. Our goal is to inspire, educate, and raise awareness through our words and ac:ons.

The music industry, like our ac:ons, is constantly evolving, and with it, the way we approach inclusion. Here, we will delve into emerging protocols and strategies designed to eliminate discriminatory prac:ces and create an environment where every voice, regardless of its origin, has the opportunity to shine. We will explore inspiring stories of those who lead change and challenge conven:onal norms.

Harmonizing Together: The Strength of Diversity

Music has always been a manifesta:on of humanity's richness. In these :mes of transforma:on, it is exci:ng to see how ar:sts, producers, and record labels come together in a collec:ve effort to celebrate diversity and give voice to those who have been marginalized for a long :me. Through touching narra:ves and meaningful conversa:ons, this column will provide us with a musical and social outlook toward a future where inclusion is the norm, not the excep:on. In each edi:on, I'll be here, crea:ng a space where your voice and the voices of thousands of people are amplified. I am Manu, and I'll see you next :me.

INÉS GAVIRIA

“A PRIMERA VISTA”

Inés Gaviria shares "A Primera Vista," the meaning of being a mother. The Colombian singer-songwriter is releasing a Pop song fi lled with pure love, dedicated to her limle daughter.

The song emerged during a women ar ; sts' song camp in which Inés par ; cipated last December to write songs for her fourth studio album.

"A Primera Vista" was co-wrimen by Inés along with three talented Colombian ar ; sts: Lala More, Laura Pérez, and Susana Cala. It all started from a long conversa;on about what the arrival of her daughter meant to Inés, and how the singer-songwriter wanted to convey the idea that you never really know if you're ready or not to be a mother, the radical changes it brings to rou ; nes and everyday life, and how this decision has been worth it.

The produc;on was handled by Natalia Bau;sta of Quinta Estudio in Bogotá, with mixing by the Colombian producer Maria Elisa Ayerbe in Miami, and mastering by Jets Galindo in Los Angeles. The music video for "A Primera Vista" was filmed in Bogotá.

This new song, like her upcoming studio album, was predominantly created, produced, and mastered by women. Inés Gaviria's main idea with this ambi9ous and innova9ve project is to highlight the role of women in the music industry, both in Colombia and La9n America.

José Francisco Gómez

Born on September 7, 1977, in the community of El Salto, Cantón Biblián, in the province of Cañar, Ecuador, José Francisco Gómez is a singer, songwriter, and music entrepreneur currently residing in New York. His passion for music began at an early age, but it wasn't un;l 1999, with the help of a friend, that he was able to record a casseme with songs from other ar;sts to raise funds and record in a professional studio.

While studying Business Administra;on and par;cipa;ng in various courses for La;nos in New York, he composed his first song, "Yo soy Ecuatoriano" (I am Ecuadorian), inspired by the recurring ques;on he received when mee;ng new people: "Where are you from?" José Francisco has always been proud of his homeland, which is reflected in the lyrics of the song.

Career

Although the early days of his career as a singer and songwriter were challenging due to the difficul;es of living in a foreign country, being an immigrant, and not knowing the language, José Francisco never lost sight of his dream. Despite facing the loss of his first wife and having to care for his two young children, he found support from wonderful people who helped him overcome those difficult moments.

By 2001, he was already singing in restaurants and bars in New York, where he met experts in various fields who offered him advice and friendship. One of them was the Queen of Ecuadorian na;onal music, Anita Lucía Proaño, who gave him his stage name, Pancho Gómez, affec;onately known as "Panchito" by his friends. Over the years, José Francisco was part of several groups, such as Juventud La;na, Grupo Tribus, Grupo Caricia, the duo Inmortal, and the VP Orquesta.

In 2003, he managed to gather enough money to produce his first material in a professional studio, "El Madrugador," which included his first musical composi;on.
