Un té en las Pozas In the heart of Fez, Morocco, a remarkable architectural project has been brought to life within the enchanting landscape of the tanneries, specifically in the form of a traditional tea house. The site is a place of immense allure, offering a unique blend of heritage and beauty. However, the area is not without its challenges, most notably the persistent olfactory discomfort and the oppressive heat that can be prevalent in this locale.

The design concept for this project is a testament to creativity and problem-solving. It was conceived as an ode to the quarry pools that are a defining feature of this region’s tanneries. These pools, essential for the tanning process, are characterized by their tranquil, reflective waters. Their visual appeal, however, is often overshadowed by the overpowering scent of tanning agents and the sweltering temperatures experienced by the laborers working around them.

The architects and designers of this tea house aimed to capture the essence of these quarry pools while mitigating the discomforts that can be associated with the tannery surroundings. To achieve this, they ingeniously elevated

the experience. The result is a space that offers respite from the unpleasant odors and the searing heat. This elevated design introduces a new architectural topography that soars above the tanneries’ roofs, providing a unique perspective on the surroundings from various elevations.

Visitors to this tea house can now enjoy a sensorial journey, where they are enveloped by the aura of the tanneries while being shielded from their more abrasive elements.

As they ascend this innovative architectural structure, they can savor picturesque views of the area, taking in the ancient cityscape and the tanneries below from different vantage points.

This project, in its fusion of traditional charm and modern ingenuity, not only pays homage to the historical significance of the tanneries in Fez but also offers a fresh and immersive way to experience this iconic Moroccan setting. It stands as a testament to the power of design and architecture in transforming not only physical spaces but also the way we engage with and appreciate our surroundings.

In the section, the analogy is drawn between the pools where tanners carry out their work of tanning and dyeing skins, and the pools in the tea house, where people can experience these spaces in a pleasurable manner. This project arises from the section, which is why this documentation is so crucial. Furthermore, it is from these sections that the different elevations of the project are understood, as well as how the communications between them are structured.

We are in Tabarca, a small island near the Costa Blanca.

An island of fishermen where tranquility reigns, it reminded me of a book I read some time ago, “The Rumor of the Waves” by Yukio Mishima. This book is an ode to the sea, to its beauty, its qualities and its blessing.

it, the windows that direct our gaze towards the island, the different pavements, the sea seduces us little by little throughout the entire route. The end of this consists of some stairs that take us to our seducer and where we are allowed physical contact with him.

The museum in a very poetic way pretends to be a praise to the Sea, thus inspired by Mishima’s book, a love story is created between the user who visits the museum and the sea. The walls that appear and disappear, the gaps that allow us to hear the murmur of the waves, even smell

It is a very metaphorical project since its sole objective is to be a museum of the sea. The color that is chosen for it is the opposite of the blue of the sea, which creates a total cohesion between the two.

The Container Building The Container Building is born from the imminent transformation in the way of living and the need of sharing and exchanging information.

It is located in Plaza del Carmen, between Gran Vía and Puerta del Sol, a privileged place in the city of Madrid.

From the first moment I decided that my project should have the least impact, both on the structure of the building below, and on the environment. This would be achieved with the use of containers that will gradually become tubes.

The coliving concept precedes the design of these homes.

This transforms the way of coexisting and aims for groups of people to share the common areas of a home, kitchen, laundry area, living room and others.

The single-family homes have references in La Quinta da Malagueira de Siza and in James Stirling’s Southgate Estate, both from 1977. The intention that they rise from the ground level of the roof, is to leave space for coliving.

Finally, the single and double dwellings are tubes that turn on each other looking for different orientations and views of the city. Here the coliving life is even more noticeable, since the tenants of the same floor will share spaces such as the kitchen and the laundry. These last houses are located on a shared space at double height, with a large window to the plaza and with mobile panels to create different spaces according to the needs of each moment.

To complete the project, two spaces were created. The walkways that take you to each house and those that do not take you to any house but allow you to enjoy spectacular views. And on the other hand the two roofs.

Each one has a different function, which is understood thanks to the mobiliary.

Yellow permeates all common spaces, its purpose is clear and it is intended to create an environment of optimism and energy among people who are going to share their home with perfect strangers.

The project is divided into three main blocks, the communications, the single-family homes and the single and double homes.

The coliving concept precedes the design of these homes. This transforms the way of coexisting and aims for groups of people to share the common areas of a home, kitchen, laundry area, living room and others.

La Casa Escondida This house is designed for a marine biologist who studies the wide variety of marine flora found on Tabarca Island.

This biologist also teaches marine biology courses and organizes diving excursions.

The reason why the house is designed to be “hidden” is because this house serves two fundamental functions: it serves as the biologist’s residence and as a workspace where they accommodate those who want to learn about the island’s marine fauna.

The entire facade is presented in the same way, like a kind of wooden fortress. There is a large door that opens like a garage on the main street, through which we access the office, while on the perpendicular street, there is a smaller door to access the residence. The residence is partially underground, hiding it from clients, and there is an inner courtyard that separates both parts.

The living area consists of a long hallway with skylights that allow us to access the different rooms of the house.

Construction Project This construction project involved taking a design developed during the academic years and translating it into a fully detailed and feasible construction plan. The primary objective was to ensure that the project could be successfully realized in practice. What set this endeavor apart was its emphasis on innovative and sustainable construction strategies.

The design, initially conceptualized during the academic phase, served as the foundation for this project. It was important to bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring that the theoretical design could be practically executed while maintaining its integrity and creativity.

Incorporating sustainability and innovation were key elements of the project. Sustainable construction practices and materials were integrated to minimize environmental impact and enhance long-term viability. This entailed a

comprehensive assessment of eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems, and waste-reduction strategies.

In terms of innovation, the project encouraged out-of-thebox thinking in construction techniques and materials.

This involved exploring novel building methodologies, advanced materials, and cutting-edge technologies to optimize both the construction process and the long-term performance of the structure.

Ultimately, this construction project was a synthesis of academic design and real-world construction. It showcased how a visionary design could be translated into a tangible, environmentally responsible, and innovative construction project. The endeavor emphasized the importance of embracing sustainable practices and creative solutions to address the challenges of the modern construction industry.
