Dear Fergus Falls Public Schools Families, Students, and Staff, as we enter the final quarter of a truly remarkable school year, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude. This year has been a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire school community. Our students have excelled across all domains, achieving outstanding academic results, showcasing their extraordinary talents in the arts, demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship and skill in athletics, and, most importantly, developing into compassionate and responsible community leaders. The collective effort of our exceptional educators, supportive parents, and engaged students has created an environment where every child can experience success. I am confident that the foundation that has been built will continue to propel our students toward even greater success in the future. - Supt. Drake
Early Childhood Family Education/PreSchool/Kindergarten
At Otter Preschool, we've been refining our fine motor skills through activities like painting, which can be messy but fun. We're also building a foundation in math by recognizing and creating patterns, which helps with future learning. We play, build, and collaborate with classmates, learning how to problem-solve and compromise. Our fun isn't limited to the classroom—we also enjoy moving our muscles in the gym and reading our favorite books.
In Kindergarten, we celebrated our 100th day of school by imagining life at 100 years old and enjoying a game of chess with an old friend. We're expanding our vocabulary and word recognition skills through fun games. We’re also serious about science, starting with learning about the weather. Recently, we hosted ‘Otter Cove on the Go!’ at Lincoln School, where students used simple cardboard boxes to stretch their imaginations and create new projects. Our kindergarteners are incredibly creative!
Grades 1st - 3rd
The annual kick-off for One School One Book was held on Monday, March 3rd. Through a generous donation from PTO, every student went home with a copy of The Adventures of Henry Whiskers, a tale about a family of mice who live in Windsor Castle. Mr. Evavold came to both Adams and McKinley to read the first chapter, and students will now follow Henry Whiskers' adventures with their families as we read through the book together during the month of March. A big thank you to PTO for their continued support of our students!
Mr. Griebe and Mr. George organized a trip to the Public Library for their 3rd and 1st grade classes as part of an ongoing partnership, where 3rd graders mentor 1st graders. The classes were split into two groups, allowing students to complete four rotations/stations with their buddies. It was a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone!
Grades 4th-5th
Spring is beginning to arrive at the PWLC. Students in the Prairie Science classes have been working in the greenhouse to learn about monocots and dicots. They will be planting the seeds they harvested last fall, and later this spring, they will transplant these seedlings onto the prairie.
Guest artist, Sara Ronnevik taught an art lesson to fifth grade students providing an opportunity to create a Picasso painting!

When schools think about Pi Day, it can be celebrated in so many different ways. The ALC has its own take on the idea. Raising money for activities for the students, such as their upcoming Lake Day on Swan Lake at the end of the school year, students purchased opportunities to “Pi” their teachers.
On Friday, March 14th, students gathered in the ALC lunchroom to take aim at their teachers. Eight staff members put their dignity on the line for the event. Approximately 80 pies were thrown to raise over $200 for the ALC.
Grades K- 12
iQ Academy continues to grow. In January enrollment was at 884 students. As of March 4th, iQ enrollment was at 990 students. iQ Academy employs 39 teachers and 2 school counselors.
Fergus Falls High School students who took an iQ class(es) during semester 1 passed ALL of their iQ classes. A reason for this success is the time and effort that Amy Bergem puts into connecting with and supporting our FFHS students. iQ Academy semester 1 passing rate for high school students was 80% and at the middle school level was 77%.
On Friday, February 14th, we had an iQ Academy skating social event at the Fergus Falls Ice Arena. It is always a highlight getting to connect with our students and families in person. We will have our spring social event in May at Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America.
iQ Academy is gearing up for state testing. Last year iQ Academy staff traveled to 19 different sites around the state to administer state testing. Thank you to Angie Aziz and Theresa Gallagher for putting all of this together.

Fergus Falls Youth Archery
Youth Archery hosted their first tournament on February 1, 2025 at the Roosevelt Education Center - gym. Six area schools participated with 180 students attending the event. Coaches include David Sanderson, Jeff Struck, Mark Thoma, Rebecca Michael, Eric Magnuson, Chad Raitz, Tom Johnson, Stuart Schiesser, and Jo Fritz.
Homework Help
Is your student struggling with a tough homework assignment? Have them stop into see Jody Kidder in KSS-room 2615. All students in Grade 6, 7, 8, 9 are welcomed. It is offered before and after school Monday-Friday from 7:30 to 8:10 am and Monday-Thursday from 3:20 to 4:00 pm.
Driver Education
Open to students 15 (14 turning 15 in the next couple of months) to 18 years of age. We have classroom classes coming up in June and August.
If you have your driving permit and need to complete the behind-the-wheel portion, please call Community Education.
Point of Impact is for teen drivers and their parents who are or will be enrolled or in Driver Education through Community Education. FFPD Sgt Kevin Sonstebo is the instructor. Pre-register by calling our office.
Fergus Falls Clay Buster Trap Team
Forty-eight students in grades 6-12 from the Fergus Falls School District, who hold a Minnesota firearm safety certificate, are participating in this year's trap team. Shooters compete as individuals and as a team at the Lakes Area Shooting Center. They are under the direction of Coach Steven Adams, Asst Coach Nycol Piekarski, and volunteer coaches - Brian Piekarski, Christopher Adams, Paul Krava, Kevin Knutson, Matt Nadgwick, Phillip Jennen, Shaun Anderson, and Luke Mertz.
