Chavagnes has a long and interesting history. Once the site of an important Roman villa, the land on which the College now stands was donated to the Church by a local noble family of English origin in the thirteenth century. For several hundred years it was the site of a Benedictine monastery dedicated to St Anthony of Egypt. After the French Revolution it was for two hundred years one of France’s most distinguished seats of Catholic learning, educating thousands of boys who went on to become priests, bishops, doctors, poets and leaders throughout France. Since 2002 this hallowed ground has been the home of an international Catholic college, offering an individualised, classical education to boys from around the English-speaking world. Our alumni, after study at the best universities in the UK, France, Spain and the USA have gone into a wide variety of careers, including the law, business, journalism, the Church, the Arts and university teaching. In a spirit of fidelity to the Church, we see our task at Chavagnes as the formation of the leaders of the future: young men with a profound knowledge and love of Christ and the Church, and a sense of duty and responsibility. Ferdi McDermott, MA, PGCE, MEd, MCIL, FCollT, FRSA. Principal
