Thelastmonthhasbroughtsomehighsandlowsfortheteamhere.Startingwithbeingawarded “HallofFame”intheMarinaIndustriesAssociation,NauticalMarineInsuranceawardsgaladinner, heldattheCruisingYachtClubofAustralia,RushcuttersBayonMay16th.Thisawardrecognisedour achievementinbeingawardedtheprevious2consecutivewinsfor“BoatyardoftheYear”,under20 boats,2019/20&21/22,anotherwinin2015/16andapreviousawardof“HighlyCommended”and runneruptoGoldCoastCityMarinaQLD2013/14.Forme,itwasagreathonourtohaveoursmall familybusinessrecognisedforitscustomerfocus,projectmanagementskillsandthefactthat Fenwickshasneverstoppedreinventingitselfandliftingthebarindeliveryofboatyardservices.Tim andSarah,alongwithTracie,fromourofficeandherhusbandDanielwerealsoinattendanceandto havebothTimandSarahjoinmeonthestageforthispresentationmadeitextraspecial.Itakethis opportunitytothankallpresentandpastemployeesandtenantsthathaveassistedinmakingour marina/boatyardoneofthemostawardedinAustralia.
ThelowIspokeof,beingthesadnews,thatSteveCallaghanhadpassedawaysuddenlyafter sufferingaheartattacknearhomeontheCentralCoast.AsmostwillknowSteveandLeannehad departedourMarinaattheendofNovemberlasttochasetheirtraveldreamsandspendmoretime withfamily.TheyrecentlyreturnedfromatriptoAmericaandhadplentymoreadventuresplanned. OurdeepestcondolencesgotoLeanneandthefamilyatwhatwillbeaverydifficulttime.Thefamily is fundraising to provide a community Defibrillator, if anyone would like to contribute to this worthwhilecause,pleasescantheQRcodefordetails.

WewereallsaddenedbythesuddenlossofSteveCallaghanwhopassedaway18thMay2023after onlyachievinghisgoalofretirementattheendof2022.
AfteroperatingCallaghan’sMarineServicesforover15years,Steve&Leannedecidedtheyweregoing tohanguptheworkbootsandstarttravellingtheworldandbeingfulltimegrandparentstotheir10 grandchildren. Thankfully since retiring Steve & Leanne had been travelling with only weeks earlier returningfromanAmazingroadtripthroughAmericavisitingsomefamilyontheway.Someofushad thepleasureofa4amtextmessagefromSteveduetohisexcitementofthereallyfastcarstheypulled upnextto.TypicalSteve,askedforatestdrivebutbelievetheydeclinedhisrequest.
Lastweekmanyfromfarandneargatheredtosaytheirfinalgoodbyes,haveabeerattheoceanand rememberthefulllifeStevehadled.Healwayshadastorytotellabouthisyoungerdaysincludinghis pasttimesofrowing&sailing.HischildrenandwifeLeanneallspokebeautifullyofthedad,husband &poppythathewas.
Stevewasnotonlyjustanemployerofhisstaff.Hewasamentor,aneducatorandbecameafriendto most.Evenattendingsomeofourweddings.He&Leannewatchedusallgrowfromapprenticesto tradesmeninbothourwork&personallives.Althoughwewisheditwasondifferentcircumstancesit wasamazingtoseesomanypastCMScrewmemberscometosaygoodbye&haveabeerinSteve’s honourlastweek.
The marina is a little more quiet with Steve not around running around chatting to all the other tenantsandclientsanymore,butwewillalwayshavethememoriesofthetimewespentherewith him.

Wakeford Marine Services was started in 2016 with a staff of just 3 people: 2 marine mechanics and a finance/admin lady WMS started at Rowell Marina in Newport, operating out of a container on the slipway and since then has kept on growing and developing The Newport workshop and office are now located in separate office spaces on the marina. The company expanded further in December 2022 when the opportunity arose to purchase Callaghan’s Marine Services at Fenwicks Marina in Brooklyn, creating a whole new branch of WMS In WMS’s 7 years of business our company has grown to 11 full-time employees, and two branches.
Quintin Wakeford came to Australia in 2014 with his family, dad Thomas, mom Anja, and brother Joachim. Quintin started working for Fleet Marine Services as a mechanic, a bit more than a year later Anthony Daube decided to sell his business. And so, Wakeford Marine Services was born when Quintin, Anja and Thomas bought the business
Managing a building business, and later running her own small building business, in South Africa, Anja had the business management experience required. Quintin studied heavy diesel mechanics and worked in the motor mechanic and vehicle rebuild industry He qualified for his red seal in heavy diesel mechanics before immigrating to Australia, once in Australia he did his conversion to marine mechanics.
Our love for water, and boating attracted us to settle on the Northern Beaches When we’re not working on boats and loving it, we are out camping and motorbike riding Thomas and Anja love doing road trips on their GS bikes or just with their rooftop tent. Quintin explores off road as often as he can with friends and brother Joachim Quintin and his lovely wife Kim love visiting with family and doing bush walks
