UAP MAXIMISES SECURITY WITH NEW SMART LOCK FEATURE

UAP has launched a new patented feature which sees the IONIC become the first electronic door lock to detect different forms of attack.

Created thanks to haptic technology, which uses sensors to sense/detect the heat and vibrations, the innovation alerts the homeowner via their smartphone if there is any attempt to break in or risk of vandalism.

If the door is kicked, if a drill is used on the lock, or if someone tries to gain access without using the IONIC App or key fob, the homeowner will be notified immediately. The technology can also detect heat, so will send an alert if there is a fire outside the door or if a blow torch is used.

Launched in 2023 following four years of research and development, the IONIC is the first in a series of smart products to be launched by UAP’s Fullex-ai brand.

Commenting on the new feature, David Jennings, CEO of UAP, said: “We developed the IONIC’s haptic technology based on customer feedback which signalled a growing demand for more robust security covering all eventualities.

“Although most electronic locks provide a very safe option there are still vulnerabilities, which we have resolved with this new feature. Homeowners can now benefit from an unrivalled electronic lock that is always on guard.”

The IONIC’s high levels of security add to a range of features designed to improve the experience both for both fabricators and the end user.

No complex wiring is needed to install the lock with a setup that mirrors the Fullex Autolock. Unlike other electronic locks, the IONIC also has an integrated power supply and allows wireless charging. A wireless unit, which fits easily to a door frame, connects to a control unit and powers the lock.

Providing flexibility, the homeowner can set up new users and a wide range of time settings using the IONIC App. It is also possible to set up one-time-only access for workmen and to add and delete users at the press of a button.

Available in anthracite grey, chrome and white, the IONIC can be paired with rose handles to complement interior design briefs. Alternatively, it can be installed with classic door handles on a backplate or high security front door handles.

ALUPILOT: REVOLUTIONISING ALUMINIUM WINDOW PRODUCTION WITH ENHANCED EFFICIENCY

One of the most critical factors in manufacturing is time, and Winkhaus UK’s innovative aluPilot fitting system is designed to streamline the production process of aluminium windows.

Aluminium fabricators can save up to 10 minutes of production time per window with aluPilot, compared to traditional systems available on the market. Winkhaus has confirmed the result of 10 minutes time saving in tests conducted with manufacturers during aluPilot’s development and subsequent roll-out to European systems houses. When multiplied across weekly production, these time savings really start to add up.

So, how does Winkhaus UK achieve this remarkable 10-minute time-saving? We’ve identified three key concepts integral to our approach.

1. Fastening Concept: Streamlining Assembly Processes

Firstly, our innovative ‘fastening concept’ optimises assembly efficiency by utilising ‘clamp and clip’ technologies to insert components into the fitting groove of the sash frame, eliminating the need for upstream work processes, such as punching and cutting connecting rods to length. This approach accelerates fabrication significantly, with sash components connected using standardised drive rods.

2. Tooling Concept: Simplifying Installation Procedures

Secondly, our streamlined ‘tooling concept’ simplifies installation processes, with assembly and adjustment of components requiring only two tools. With just a screwdriver and an installation lever, manufacturers can effortlessly install and adjust components, removing the need for costly punching tools.

3. Handling Concept: Optimising Pre-Assembly and Installation

Lastly, our comprehensive ‘handling concept’ ensures that everything arrives pre-assembled and tailored to the manufacturer’s specifications, minimising handling effort during fabrication. With pre-installed components reducing the

number of fittings by up to 25%, fabricators can replenish their product lines faster and enjoy enhanced production efficiency.

Combined, these three concepts contribute to a more efficient and production-friendly system, saving time and increasing productivity.

aluPilot’s innovative design continues with a range of custom accessory components that allow greater design flexibility to meet changing customer requirements. These include the aluPilot cushioned turn limiter that brakes the sash in the turn position, protecting the window from gusts and reducing the risk of windows slamming open or shut. The aluPilot ventilation shear for turn windows that provides adjustable ventilation up to 90 degrees from the closed position, and the aluPilot locking force optimiser which is designed to reduce tilt and turn locking forces, ideal for high sash weights and sashes with a low handle position.

In addition to efficiency gains, aluPilot offers impressive weight capabilities, catering to various applications. With options to support sash weights ranging from 130kg to 300kg, our aluPilot system is versatile and adaptable to diverse needs.

Winkhaus UK’s Aluminium Systems Manager, Alastair Wheeler, said: “At Winkhaus, we pride ourselves on being a collaborative partner, working closely with system houses to meet their specific needs. Through mutual development, testing, and certification, we ensure that each system house can enjoy the benefits of a bespoke window solution, that saves precious production time.”

During these development days, Winkhaus’ technical and laboratories’ seasoned experts guide customers through the intricacies of testing, offering insights into potential vulnerabilities or failure points before official testing commences.

George Smith, Senior Product and Technical Manager at Winkhaus UK: “We advise early involvement with our customers when they embark on the development of a new doorset or window solution, which provides the widest opportunity for us to support, especially with new profile concepts. Understanding the challenges customers are seeking to overcome is to key to our involvement. This often leads the design of bespoke solutions, especially with keeps, which we can then prototype through our 3D printers and use as part of our

Ade Collins, Laboratory Manager at Winkhaus UK, emphasised the significance of these services, stating, “Traditional testing outcomes often end with a pass or fail result, which can significantly impede development progress. Technical Development Days mitigate these setbacks by enabling iterative design adjustments without the time and cost constraints associated with formal testing.”

“When it comes to innovation, and creating bespoke products, a quick turnaround will provide a real benefit to our customers and the roll-out of their products. Our team works together with customers to get them to market as quickly as possible, providing them with a significant competitive advantage.”

25 YEAR FURNITURE GUARANTEE FROM VBH

VBH, the hardware specialist behind the greenteQ range, has announced a brand new guarantee that covers the greenteQ residential door, patio door and window furniture range for up to 25 years.

The popular greenteQ furniture range has now been split into two separate groups. The stainless steel architeQ range covers furniture for residential doors and patio doors, with the mainstream greenteQ Suite covering the same but with the addition of window furniture.

The surface finish on greenteQ Suite products has been increased to 20 years, with a 25 year guarantee available on architeQ furniture.

In addition to these extended guarantee periods, where the guarantees really stand out is that, for what they term ‘qualifying customers’, VBH will deal with any claims directly with the consumer, leaving the fabricator and installer free to do what they do best; make and sell windows and doors.

VBH advise that they are able to offer these guarantees based on what they describe as greenteQ furniture’s “excellent performance in test lab conditions, and real-installation experience.”

Head of Brand at VBH, Dan Powell, says, “Two big headaches reported by manufacturers and

installers are firstly, having to send an engineer to site to investigate and rectify a problem and, secondly, being unsure as to what the guarantee on a particular product or finish actually is! It really isn’t as simple as it should be. We have made our guarantee as transparent as possible. Depending on the product, it’s 20 or 25 years, and we will take care of the whole claim and replacement process direct with the consumer for qualifying customers, so they can fit greenteQ and forget.

“As well as taking the hassle out of dealing with any claims, the 20 and 25 year terms give everyone in the supply chain absolute assurance that greenteQ furniture is built to last, and that VBH, as the furniture manufacturer, will stand by the product. Our aim is to help installers turn enquiries into sales.”

VBH advise that many qualifying companies are already taking advantage of the ‘fully serviced’ guarantee, with many more in the pipeline. They urge interested companies to get in touch to discuss the details directly.

VBH can be contacted on 01634 263263 or by email at sales@vbhgb.com.

SYNERGY WITH SOMECO: TAP INTO THE BENEFITS

The dictionary defines synergy as the interaction of elements that when combined produces a total effect greater than the sum of the individual elements. That’s clear enough, but I’m willing to bet that you understood the concept of synergy long before you were ever taught about it in school.

You knew, for example, that you and your pal would have more fun if you got together for a kickabout than if you both stayed at home kicking your own football against the garden wall. You understood

that you’d learn more skills together and enjoy the element of competition. What’s more, you were economising: all the fun with one football, not two. You also knew that if you were challenged by any other kids for a match, you and your pal would be a team, ready to show what you could do. That’s synergy.

Finding synergies

Synergy is easy to see in football. It’s there in the defender/keeper relationship.

It’s there in the rise of the women’s game. It’s there in the links between the game on the pitch and the game on the console. But examples of synergy are found everywhere: in our homes, in a great family dynamic; in colleges, as students collaborate on a project; and in our communities, as a thriving local enterprise.

Of course, synergies are most often talked about in a business context, frequently when referring to mergers. Two businesses come

together to create something bigger, better, more costeffective or more able to serve a particular market.

Practical and people driven

When a synergistic effect happens, it isn’t because of some weird phenomenon. It’s because measurable changes occur. Perhaps two halfcapacity warehouses become one site finally operating efficiently. Perhaps vehicles don’t return from deliveries empty but take a different product to a new destination. Perhaps some machinery becomes fully utilised, or maybe there are economies of scale in some functions. That’s not magic. It’s good management.

For me, the most exciting part of a synergistic relationship happens because of the people involved. Whatever we have done, achieved or created in our lives, we store information about it. When two organisations come together, the spectrum of expertise becomes much broader. The new organisation has more skills, more understanding and a wider variety of niche or specialist knowledge. The key thing is to recognise, value and capitalise on the contribution others can make.

What do they know, have and do that will make your enterprise stronger?

What do you know, have and do that will further their aims?

The synergy of a new PVC profile processing brand

Let me illustrate this with an example I’m very familiar with. elumatec is a global brand, but it started its life in Germany. It’s known and respected for its engineering and its machining centres. In Italy, Emmegi has an equally proud history in saws and machining centres but has been seen as the leader in technology for the seamless welding of PVCu. Now, Voilàp Group, of which both businesses are part, has launched a new PVC brand called someco.

In creating this brand, which will embrace all of the group’s PVC processing products, something far bigger than a new logo and identity has been formed. someco is the home for superb technology, innovative thinking and attention to detail. It’s the place where there’s true alignment between products and supporting systems, ready for all the benefits of Industry 4.0. It’s where consultancy, service, and support are integral parts of the customer experience. And because the new someco brand is so closely aligned with elumatec – we will be the brand’s UK supplier – there are synergies aplenty.

These synergies arise because of the skills our operations have across different sectors, because of our international reach and experience, and because of our place in the

Voilàp Group structure. We share a desire to collaborate, have goals that are in alignment and are focused on the same ambitious standards for sustainability. It’s exciting that we’re working together. It feels like a catalyst has been added and that now, we are stronger than ever.

Whilst that might sound somewhat boastful, I do think it’s important that our strength and experience are recognised. They are, after all, what many in the fenestration industry need right now. In challenging times, access to specialists can make an enormous difference to a business. What’s more, with many fabricators extending their product ranges to include PVCu, steel and aluminium, it makes sense to have access to suppliers who can deliver across the board.

Look out for the new someco brand. It’s a sign of a business that uses synergy to create outstanding products and deliver remarkable service.

A window and door system designed to authentically replicate 19th Century timber designs.

It can accommodate 28mm and 44mm glazing to create highly efficient glazed units that offer outstanding thermal and acoustic performance, with a WER rating of A++ and U-values as low as 0.74 w/m2K. Contact your local fabricator today. 01452
