Reliable fencing solution for road front stock control
Andy Johnson of Central Fencing was looking for an innovative fencing solution for a job near Christchurch to provide his clients with peace of mind about stock control.
Gallagher’s Insulated Line Post system was the first option that came to mind after seeing it installed at the South Island field days. While Andy hadn’t installed the posts on a property, he was familiar with the product’s features and benefits and knew it would fit the bill.

The system includes a fully insulated polyethylene and fibreglass post for low cost, low maintenance, permanent electric fencing for sheep, cattle, deer and horses. It comes with pre-formed wire attachments with snap-on clips.

“This client’s property has a forestry block behind it, which they are developing to allow sheep to graze right through. So, stock control is a key consideration,” says Andy.
“I knew they were open to new fencing solutions, so after talking to the client and demonstrating how the product worked, we decided to go ahead with the Insulated Line Posts.”
Due in part to the forestry block, Andy had to contend with boney, undulating ground and rocky terrain during installation.
“The rocks and roots from the forest were a challenge, but the posts went in pretty easily,” he says. “I installed them using the motorised 4-stroke rammer and clipped the 2.5mm wires to the insulated posts, making all wires on the fence live.
“We hooked it straight up to the power. When I put the fence tester on it for the first time there wasn’t one fault, which left me pleasantly surprised!”
Andy worked closely on the project with Gallagher’s Canterbury Territory Manager Mark Maitland. At first, they noticed the posts looked out of line in the undulating ground.
“Then once the fence line was fully constructed and the wires were tightened, the fence made an immaculate straight line,” says Andy. “It really is a good-looking fence.”
As well as the ease and speed of installation, Andy also likes the flexibility of the Insulated Line Post system.
“It’s great to have the flexibility to clip on multiple types of wire or netting, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be electric. The system is essentially a one-stop shop.”

This fencing project was also well-suited to Gallagher’s Electric Fence Dropper.
“We installed droppers between posts to strengthen the fence. It also lowers the fence cost by extending post spacing, while still meeting the client’s need for stock control,” explains Andy.

With the project now completed, Andy’s clients are rapt with the results and pleased to have their property fenced and secure. After having the opportunity to test the product, Andy says it’s great to have this tool in his belt for future projects.
“I can think of multiple situations where the Insulated Line Posts would work well, such as multi-use areas where farmers aren’t sure whether they want deer, cattle, horses or other animals in the fenced paddock.”
