The ten days in the UK with my sister were fantastic. We laughed a lot - mainly her at me acting like I had just been released from a 40 year prison sentence - her words not mine. Amongst some of the reasons why she said this were that I had never done supermarket self check out before and so didn't know you had to put the items in the bagging area.... I forgot you had to pay for food and drinks as you went along... I had to ask for descriptions of some of the items on the menus as I had never come across them in English. The weather stayed dry for us so we did lots of walking and cake eating. Les Miserables was the highlight and was amazing, I'm still singing it now.
No sooner was I back home I was packing again for 24 hours in Barcelona with darling daughter. I won two tickets to see Dara O'Briain after replying to a shout out for anecdotes. Mine was that he slept in my bed in the family home in the UK. Just to be clear, I wasn't in it at the time. My parents used to host comedians, actors, band members etc when they were on tour in the UK. Of course he did not disappoint and it was a brilliant show and a great 24 hours including a return trip to the Casa de Libros with more books being purchased.
Again I did not have time to unpack and I was repacking as we swapped houses for the half year Moors and Christians celebrations.
This month I have no trips requiring packing but there is still plenty to do and enjoy in our area.

Income Tax Return in Spain 2025 for Costa Blanca

If you are a tax resident in Spain and living in the Costa Blanca, it is important to understand your tax obligations regarding the annual Income Tax Return. Failing to comply can lead to penalties, surcharges and unnecessary problems with the Tax Agency. Reviewing your position in advance is the best way to avoid issues and benefit from available tax reliefs.
Who is required to file the Income Tax Return?
In general terms, tax residents in Spain who exceed certain income thresholds must submit an Income Tax Return. A person is usually considered a tax resident if they have spent more than 183 days in Spain during the calendar year or if their main economic interests are located in Spain.
As a general rule, those earning more than €22,000 per year from a single payer, or more than €15,000 from multiple payers in certain cases, may be required to file a return. The same applies to taxpayers receiving rental income, self-employment income or other taxable earnings.
Even when filing is not mandatory, submitting a return may still be beneficial if you are entitled to deductions or a refund. How does double taxation affect you?
Many Costa Blanca residents receive income from abroad, such as pensions, salaries or investments. Spain has signed double taxation agreements with numerous countries to prevent taxpayers from paying tax twice on the same income. Each case should be reviewed carefully depending on the source of the income and the country involved.
What tax benefits can apply?
In addition to
general national allowances, taxpayers living in the Valencian Community may benefit from regional deductions depending on their personal and family circumstances.
These may include deductions linked to sports activities or healthcare expenses, housing or family-related costs. Many taxpayers overlook these regional benefits, which can improve the final result of the tax return.
To apply them correctly, it is important to keep invoices, proof of payment and supporting documentation.
Deadlines and submission
The filing period usually begins in early April and ends at the end of June each year. Returns may be submitted online through the Tax Agency platform or with the assistance of a tax advisor.

Provincial Piano Recital Showcases
Outstanding Young Talent in Moraira
A very grey and chilly morning certainly didn't dampen the mood of 40 members as they set off for a day in Murcia. The sky began to clear as they arrived in the city and they were soon off to explore, maps in hand, but maybe a coffee to begin with! Murcia has so much to offer with its beautiful Cathedral, Casino Real, Episcopal Palace and numerous museums. As the visit coincided with the start of Easter week buildings were adorned with beautiful banners and palms, and the flower beds were a kaleidoscope of colour with thousands of kalanchoes planted. Quite magnificent. The Travel Co-ordinators, Paul Heaps and Anne Cox can be seen in the photo full of the joys of Spring! U3A maybe an association made up of retired members but they certainly don't lack enthusiasm.
In the week prior to the visit at the monthly General Meeting, members had been requested to donate Easter eggs or chocolate for the children of needy families in Alfaz del Pi. An outstanding 130 items were donated for the Food Bank to distribute ensuring some very happy children over Easter.

More than sixty guests attended the Valencian Freemasons Provincial Piano Recital recently at Espai La Senieta, where an exceptional programme of classical music was delivered by four rising young musicians Arianna Roselló Sanchez, Isabel Cabrera Oláh, Daniel Kovacs, and Luis Cabello, under the guidance of renowned pianist and Professor István Székely of Katarina Gurska School of Music in Madrid and the Franz Liszt Centre for Gifted Pianists in La Nucia. Organised by W. Bro. Peter Johnson, the event featured performances that impressed both seasoned concert-goers and newcomers alike.
Professor Székely expressed his gratitude to attendees, explaining that his aim this year was to give his students the opportunity to shine. He added that next year he intends to personally perform half of the concert, a promise warmly received by the audience.
The event also served as a successful fundraiser, generating over €1,000 through ticket sales and a well-supported bar, managed by W. Bro. Malcolm March, Margaret March, and Florence Johnson. Proceeds will contribute to ongoing charitable initiatives within the community, including the refurbishment of the new Marina Alta Masonic Centre in Ondara.

Generali to sponsor Spanish tennis federation in 2026–2028 deal
MADRID – Generali will become an official partner of the Real Federación Española de Tenis (RFET) under a new agreement covering the 2026–2028 cycle, marking a new step in its commitment to sport.
As part of the deal, Generali will give its name to the men’s national team, which will compete under the official title Selección Española GENERALI de Tenis, while the partnership also extends to the women’s team and includes a strong brand presence within the national competition structure.
Spain is one of the historic powerhouses of world tennis, with six Davis Cup titles and five Billie Jean King Cup victories, and the sport continues to enjoy widespread participation across the country, with more than 100,000 registered federation licences, around two million recreational players, over 6,000 clubs and 15,000 courts nationwide.
Generali will also become the naming partner of La Pirámide by Generali, the RFET’s competition structure, considered the largest tennis tournament system in the world. It brings together more than 2,300 official competitions and 220 international events, involving around 85,000 players across all levels, from junior categories to professionals within Spain.
The insurer will also have a visible presence in institutional events, regional initiatives and grassroots activations, with a particular focus on youth development, emerging talent, wheelchair tennis, beach tennis, and training and officiating programmes.
Carlos Escudero Segura, CEO of Generali in Spain, said: “For Generali, this agreement with the Real Federación Española de Tenis is far more than a sponsorship. It is an opportunity to support a sport that inspires, connects and moves millions of people across Spain. Tennis reflects values we deeply share, including effort, discipline, teamwork and passion, and we want to stand alongside those who make it possible, from schools and clubs through to our national teams. This is a long-term project, driven by a commitment to fostering movement, community and wellbeing. We are grateful to the RFET for their trust and look forward to this journey together.”

The agreement includes the official naming rights for Selección Española GENERALI de Tenis in the men’s categories, prominent brand placement on official kits, including front-of-shirt visibility for the senior men’s team, and exposure at national and international competitions such as the Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup and the Campeonatos de España.
With this partnership, Generali further strengthens its commitment to sport, health and human connection, reinforcing its presence in a space that brings together values, community and social development. The collaboration with the RFET will run until December 2028

New rules for travelling to Spain from the UK with pets.
ADOPT A PET
From April 22, 2026, significant changes have come into force affecting how people travel with pets from the UK to Spain. These changes mainly impact documentation and close a loophole that many UK travellers had been using since Brexit.
The most important change is that EU pet passports are no longer valid for UK residents travelling from Great Britain to Spain or any EU country. This applies even if the passport was issued in an EU country or obtained before 2026. Under the new enforcement of EU rules, pet passports are now only valid for animals owned by EU residents.
As a result, UK travellers who are not Spanish residents must now obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for every trip. This certificate must be issued by an official vet no more than 10 days before travel. It is a single-use document, meaning a new one is required each time you travel to Spain. In addition to the AHC, the standard EU entry requirements still apply. Your pet must be microchipped with an ISOcompliant chip before receiving a rabies vaccination. The rabies vaccine must be valid, and there is a mandatory 21day waiting period after the first vaccination before travel. You may also need to show proof of ownership and confirm that the animal is not being transported for sale. A maximum of five pets per vehicle is allowed for non-commercial travel. If all requirements are met, pets can enter Spain without quarantine, but failure to comply can result in refusal of entry.

Ditch the UPFs and Fuel With Real Food
Lacing up your sneakers for a brisk daily walk is one of the best things you can do for your body and mind. "Walk your way well" is a fantastic motto, but there is a harsh reality we all must face: there is little point walking for wellness if we are going to fill our bodies with ultra-processed food (UPF). The Entertainers - Practice Makes Perfect
The members of the Entertainers have each suggested their new songs for 2026, then these were performed to the group so that the final song list could be selected. The choices reflect the wide variety of music The Entertainers offer their audiences and include, amongst many others, If You Could Read My Mind, Stupid Cupid, Forever In Blue Jeans, I Am A Good Girl, Listen To The Music, Love Shack, I’m Only Human and my favourite You Don’t Bring Me Flowers, for which I have promised Jo flowers at each performance.
Wow – I really can’t wait to see them performing again and an early viewing of some of the dance moves promises spectacular performances.
So now it is practice time, to perfect the presentation and, equally importantly, the new dances. Their early season charity show programme includes:

MANY PEOPLE ASK WHAT DO WE DO AT MABS CANCER SUPPORT FOUNDATION?
You may have heard of Roman, a 12-year-old boy from Javea battling a rare form of cancer. After successful surgery, he needed six weeks of daily protontherapy in Madrid, meaning his family needed accommodation.
As soon as we heard, we told them: MABS will take care of it. We arranged and funded a two-bedroom apartment in central Madrid at a cost of €6,000, so Roman and his mum could focus entirely on his treatment and recovery. Their gratitude was overwhelming. But for us, what mattered most was easing some of the stress during such a difficult time.
And this is exactly why we do what we do. Last year, MABS spent over €404,000 supporting 419 cancer patients, providing help when it was needed most. But we can’t do it alone.
You can help by:
Volunteering a few hours a week (we urgently need handymen and van helpers).
Donating clean, saleable items.
Supporting fundraising - even 50 cents per person at events makes a difference.
Together, those small contributions allow us to support families like Roman’s, and hundreds more each year.

Creative Crafters
We are a diverse group of crafters who meet at 10.30am the first Thursday of every month. Our interests range from crochet and dressmaking to metal sculpting. We are a mutual help group, we bring our own work and solve each others crafting problems. We have a special project, 'Project Dress A Girl'. We make new clothes for little girls in the area who would otherwise never have one. Those who sew make them and others raise funds to buy the fabric. They are distributed through local charities.
