Welcome to Felsted Summer School Online An adapted approach to the Felsted Summer School experience
Felsted Summer School Online offers a choice of two new online courses that have been developed by our International Summer School team for children aged 14-17. Over the two courses, we aim to give pupils a taste of our highly acclaimed UK based Summer School, which unfortunately had to be cancelled this summer. Lessons will be a mix of pre-recorded and live interactive sessions, set in a fun virtual working environment, where students can learn effectively in short manageable bursts.
Felsted values will be at the heart of each course to ensure that students get a real taste of our Felsted Summer School experience. It will also be a good opportunity for students to develop their skills before joining a British boarding school in the future.
Felsted School is a leading British boarding school, offering boys and girls aged four to eighteen a ďŹ rst class all round education. Founded in 1564 Felsted is based on a safe, rural 90 acre village campus in stunning North Essex, one hour from London and Cambridge. We welcome students from all over the world to appreciate a British boarding school education. Our International Summer School was founded in 2014 and in normal circumstances operates for six weeks each summer for children aged 8 to 17. Global Studies Course Connect with students across the world while framing conversations, debates and exchange of information concerning global issues, challenges and achievements. Alongside access to video content, delivered by Felsted’s Director of Global Education, students will have access to lesson preparations, reading materials and other specialist video content. Participants will be encouraged to take part in online tasks and interact during live sessions with students around the world to broaden their understanding of different viewpoints about how some global issues may be perceived.
The subject matter for this course is diverse. It covers a range of disciplines including Social and Political Science while exploring the way that Covid-19 has impacted each area of study. Having spoken with many of our partners overseas, there is a huge appetite for students to take part in these discussions and indeed to further their knowledge in subjects such as Migration, the Networked Information Economy, Human Rights, Environmental Protection and Transitional Justice.
The live, discussion part of this programme will be led by the Felsted International Summer School Team, and will encourage active participation in the exchange of ideas.
KEY FACTS Ages 14-17 A good level of English is required (B2 CEFR Minimum) Up to 2 hours of content provided in a semi flexible format each day, in the form of pre-recorded lectures and live interactive sessions. Structure of the Course We understand that students do not want to spend all their time online, so our course is exible in nature and only has one lesson that is given regularly at the same time each day (to suit different time zones). Students will have time to take exercise and participate in co-curricular activities during the day.

English Language Course KEY FACTS Ages 14-17 For Intermediate English language learners (C2/B1 CEFR) 1 hour of live tuition per day and 1 hour of self-motivated study Different headline topic each week that will incorporate: speaking, writing, reading, vocabulary, grammar, colloquialism and phrases Topical themes of Social Media, Vlogs, Global Communities and Reflection Live sessions for students to interact, discuss course content and to take part in speaking activities. Learning has no limits at Felsted! We are determined to provide our students with the chance to learn, interact and challenge themselves in the same way we would if they were at our UK based Summer School. Our aim is to bring students together as an online community, sharing culture, languages and experiences.

Felsted’s English Language Course aims to engage students in their English language development and motivate them to use this time to improve their capabilities. This programme will not only allow students to practise English but will enable them to interact with other students from across the globe, exchange ideas and discussions and form international friendships while embracing the virtual world we are all living in at the moment. The course will encompass online teaching, self-study resources, homework tasks and live online lessons led by the Academic Manager, with students enrolled on the programme working together as classmates.
While ensuring that all skills, grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary are taught the course will be based on themes such as social media, global communities, reective writing and vlogs. Each lesson will begin with a video lesson from the Academic Manager, followed by self-study resources and tasks, then homework projects.

Opportunities to join live lessons will be available and within these speaking and student interaction will be promoted. Students will be awarded a certiďŹ cate upon completion of the course.

The Felsted Experience Lessons will be taken via the Big Blue Button on the CANVAS platform. There is no charge for joining this platform and all links will be provided on enrollment.

We understand that this online experience will not be the same as attending our UK based Felsted Summer School and that there are limitations to learning online.
However we hope that these courses will give you some insight into our UK based summer school and we hope to see you in person at Felsted in the summer of 2021! You will be able conďŹ rm your place on our 2021 programme once your course ďŹ nishes.
