Letter From The Publisher Greetings, Yeah another school year is in the books! I am so ready for summer! We mix it up at my house, some weeks we have camp and some weeks it's "camp mama." Maybe we will even be adventurous and throw some travel in there. Whatever your house is doing we have you covered. I am now on my 10th year of running "Camp Mama". I usually try to get out early in the day and chill in the afternoon when the weather gets ridiculously hot! Or seek the refuge of air-conditioned indoor places like Cox Science Center and Adrenaline Trampoline Park. Check out page 16 for all my suggestions. But like any mom I need a break and we do have some summer camp time this summer as well. If you haven’t decided where you are sending your kids to camp this Summer, no worries we have you covered! Check out our 11th annual Summer Camp Guide starting on page 20. There are plenty of options and if you go online, you can even sort by location and interest! Happy Father’s Day to all the father’s out there. We hope you have a wonderful day filled with family, relaxation and good food! If you need some ideas on what to do check out page 8 for some fun spots around town to go to. We even have a special section for the Treasure Coast Dads as well page 12. During the downtime of summer, make sure to connect with PB Parenting online! Like our facebook and instagram pages, join either one of our facebook groups (Palm Beach County Moms (moms only) or our co-ed group Palm Beach County Parents or Palm Beach County NICU Parents Group), sign up for our e-newsletter and stay up to date with new openings and activities to do with the kids. DAY CAMP CHECKLIST • Sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 45 • Insect repellant wipes and/or insect repellent wristband (do not send an aerosol can of insect repellant–the spray will sting if it gets in your child’s eyes.) • Bathing suit and towel • Water bottle filled with ice-cold water • Hat and Sunglasses • Comfortable running shoes or closed-toe sports sandals WITH socks • Extra set of clothes (especially a pair of socks and shirt if they get wet from the rain) • Rain poncho (rolls up small) • Medication: All camps should have your child’s medical information on file. Having an extra note

with details in their backpack and attached to their Prescription medication and/or Epi-Pen is helpful. • Food: Some day camps will provide lunch and snacks. If you pack a lunch it should be easy to eat on the ground. A sandwich (avoid peanut butter since most camps are nut-free), fruit and a juice box or water makes for a healthy lunch. Granola bars make an excellent snack. Some camps may have snack bars or vending machines. Notify the camp of any food allergies your child may have. • Masks - Check to see if you are required to bring them and if so pack a few as they get sweaty in summer. • Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes

Sweeten Up Summer with a Frozen, Fruity Snack Whether you spend your summer afternoons sitting by the pool, splashing in the shallow end or just soaking up the sun’s rays, part of the fun is beating the heat with a cool, refreshing snack. Heading to the freezer for a fruity ice pop can transport you from your own backyard to a tropical island, and the experience can be even more rewarding when the tasty treat is homemade. Cool down after fun in the sun with these kidfriendly Pina Colada Sweetpotato Ice Pops, a tropical-inspired dessert made with coconut cream, sweetpotatoes, fresh pineapple, lime juice and honey. Sure to please kids and adults alike, they’re a better-for-you option when a cold snack calls your name. As a “diabetes superfood,” 26 June 2022| PB Parenting |

according to the American Diabetes Association, sweetpotatoes provide a main ingredient that’s rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber along with a “sweet” flavor without the added sugar. The ease of this summer snack means kids can help in the kitchen, and while you wait for the sweet concoction to freeze, you can share this fun fact with them: The one-word spelling of “sweetpotato” was adopted by the National Sweetpotato Collaborators in 1989 in an effort to avoid confusion with the potato and yam among shippers, distributors, warehouse workers and consumers. To add to the fun facts, a sweetpotato is not even botanically related to a white potato; they are two entirely different species from one another.

DIY Epoxy Class Fun IN Stuart STORY & PHOTOS BY MARIANNA FRANCES

My husband and I are always looking for something new to do on a date night, or even a night out with the kids. When I saw a DIY Epoxy Class in Stuart, I was signed up. I told my family. They complained. They had no idea what an epoxy class was, what we were going to do, or what to expect. They knew this was just another “thing” I had signed our family up for and expected them to be excited about it. This is where I faked it ‘till I made it. Promised they would have a great time, showed them videos online, and did a song and dance that every mom does to convince the family it would be amazing. We arrived at the warehouse in Stuart 30 minutes before the class started and still had no idea what we were walking into. It is a large open-air workshop, and there were already a good amount of people there for the class. I was happy to see other parents and kids there. I wasn’t sure if we would be the only ones with kids. As soon as we arrived, some boards were already prepped and ready to select from. I automatically 28 June 2022| PB Parenting |

knew we should have gotten there earlier because most of the boards had already been selected. All of the boards to choose from were quality though, and I’m happy with what we could pick out. Even though we were a family, I had only signed up for one board. Keep that in mind when making reservations. While we waited to get started, there was time to get to know our table neighbors, and we found out that this was their first class too. As much fun as the DIY was, getting to know other locals was wonderful too. There were beverages to enjoy (adult options too) that were included in the class fee. All of the supplies were provided, and plenty of colors to choose from. This was the most challenging part - Picking the perfect color.

Before we started mixing the epoxy, we were able to walk through the warehouse. See sample products, select the finish of the board, as well as enjoy a vast array of finger foods put out. The mixing and pouring were easy, and there were workers to help with each step of the process. Looking at the colors that others selected made me second guess our color choice, but I still loved our board and how it turned out. Once it was poured, we were instructed to leave the boards there to dry. We didn’t take the board home that night but went back the next week to sand it down, oil it and take it home. If you are looking for a fun gift for Father’s Day, a date night, or even something creative to do with your older kids…this is it. We walked into the class not knowing what to expect, and now every month my family asks when we are going back. Classes are held once a month, and a deposit is required to hold your spot.

Summer Travel Cheat Sheet, Revealing Cheapest Times To Fly

TRAVELS & Places to go

According to Expedia® data, searches for summer getaways have steadily increased over the last month, with many top destinations seeing double-digit increases week-over-week in March. Destinations seeing a recent spike in interest for June to August travel include Singapore (+60%), Houston (+55%), Bali (+35%) and Washington, D.C. (+35%), indicating travelers are researching getaways both near and far. With summer vacation FOMO taking hold, Expedia offers a look at the season's trending destinations and tips for helping travelers get more out of their summer trips, including how to score the season's cheapest fares. "People are ready to make their summer vacations happen no matter what," said Christie Hudson, senior public relations manager for Expedia. "With many travel restrictions easing over the past month, travelers have been inspired to dust off their bucket lists and get a jumpstart on planning. Prices are already reflecting that pent-up demand, so timing 30 June 2022| PB Parenting |

is going to be key for getting the best deal." Summer hotspots: These are some of the trending destinations travelers are eyeing for summer getaways, based on recent spikes in flight searches: Beach bliss: Bali (+35%), Maldives (+25%), Santorini (+20%), Los Angeles (+20%), Bar Harbor (+20%) U.S. city breaks: Chicago (+40%), Houston (+55%), Washington, D.C. (+35%), Austin (+30%), New York City (+30%) Adventures abroad: Singapore (+60%), Stockholm (+35%), Ontario (+35%), Berlin (+30%), Dubai (+20%) National and state parks and other outdoor destinations are expected to remain popular this summer as top road-trip destinations, including Mount Rushmore, and Yellowstone National Park. Best times to travel this summer: August is the cheapest month to fly, with average ticket prices (ATPs) nearly 10% lower compared to July and 5%

cheaper than June. The most expensive day to fly is July 1st, the Friday prior to the July 4th holiday, when average ticket prices are 25% higher than average for summer months. Between June and August, the highest ATPs are generally found on Fridays and the cheapest tend to occur on Tuesdays. Where to fly under $350 roundtrip: These are a few of the cities where average ticket prices are below $350 for the summer months: Toronto, San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Providence, Myrtle Beach, Kelowna, Nashville, New Orleans and Charleston. Expert tips for booking this summer's getaway Book early and book smart: As with demand, prices will likely increase as the months go by, making last-minute deals harder to find. Travelers should lock in plans early by using "free cancellation" filters on Expedia and choosing flights with waived change fees.

While it may be tempting to save a few dollars by choosing restrictive basic economy or saver fares, selecting flexible options will not only save travelers money in the long run but also ensure peace of mind as plans can change. Be flexible with dates: When viable, travelers should remain flexible with their travel dates. For instance, choosing a weekday over a weekend or avoiding traveling over the holidays can yield savings. Use fare calendars and create price alerts to track pricing and snag a deal. Bundle to save: More likely than not, travelers will need airfare, hotel and sometimes a rental car for a single trip. Booking them together – also known as bundling – on Expedia can save travelers hundreds of dollars. Expedia® is one of the world's leading full-service travel brands, with a mission of helping travelers get the most out of every trip they take by providing everything they need all in one place.
