Letter From The Publisher Greetings,
The holiday season is here, and with it comes twinkling lights, festive gatherings, and plenty of reasons to pause and appreciate the people who make life sweeter. Whether you’re mapping out your Thanksgiving menu, hunting for the perfect gift, or just trying to keep up with a calendar that fills faster than the stockings, we’re here to help you find a little more balance, inspiration, and joy this season. Our 2026 Holiday Gift Guide (page 12) is packed with local favorites, from sea turtle adoptions and lighthouse memberships to ice skating lessons and theater tickets. Giving an experience creates memories that last long after the wrapping paper is gone, and shopping local keeps our community thriving. Before the gifts start piling up, professional organizer Amy Bergman of Amyzing Spaces helps you make room in “10 Things to Declutter Before the Holidays to Make Family Life Easier” (page 6). From mismatched food storage lids to the toys your kids have outgrown, her simple advice is to let go of one item for every new one coming in. Pick two or three categories, set a timer, and enjoy a home that works for your family, no perfection required. As PB Parenting celebrates its 15th year, I’m more grateful than ever to be part of this community. Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting the local businesses that make these pages possible. From our family to yours, we wish you a Thanksgiving filled with warmth, gratitude, and togetherness. Happy Holidays and Happy Parenting!

The holiday season brings more into our homes: decorations, gifts, groceries, guests, and extra activities. Before adding anything new, look at what is already taking up space. Don't panic! You don't need to declutter your entire home before the holidays. Tackling just a few categories can make daily routines less stressful. As a professional organizer, I remind clients that the goal isn't a picture-perfect home. It's a home that works for the people living in it. Before the holidays, aim to declutter at least one item for every item you anticipate bringing into your home. 1. Shoes, backpacks, and bags The entryway can become a landing zone for everything the family brings through the door. Outgrown shoes, unused bags, old backpacks, and sports equipment take up valuable space. Let go of what is no longer needed and give everyday essentials an assigned home. Your busy mornings will thank you. 6 November 2026 | PB Parenting |
2. Toys and games your children have outgrown Before holiday gifts introduce new toys, set aside broken toys, incomplete games, and items your children no longer enjoy. Involve them in passing along usable toys and clothing to those who have less. It's an opportunity to teach generosity while making it easier to find, enjoy, and put away the things they love. 3. Food storage containers without matching lids If opening your food storage cabinet feels like a game of chance, you're not alone. Match containers and lids, discard unusable pieces, and keep a reasonable number for your family's needs. With holiday leftovers on the horizon, this small project can make a big difference. 4. Paper piles that create stress Mail, catalogs, school notices, and outdated schedules can accumulate on counters and tables. Sort through the piles, recycle what you no longer

Ways to be Thankful • For Children (and Adults) of All Ages •
Thankful: adjective thank·ful : glad that something has happened or not happened, that something or someone exists, etc. : of, relating to, or expressing thanks Does it ever feel like kids today have a hard time slowing down long enough to feel thankful? Between screens, schedules, and one-click shopping, life moves fast, and it’s easy for all of us to rush past the people and moments worth appreciating. The good news is that gratitude is a habit, and habits can be practiced. Here are some simple ways to help your children show thankfulness this season, with a few reminders for the grownups too! 1. Just say thank you. Practice good manners through role-play with stuffed animals and action figures. Little ones love acting out “please” and “thank you” scenarios. 18 November 2026 | PB Parenting |
2. Start a dinner table tradition. Don’t save it for Thanksgiving Day. Once a week at dinner, ask everyone to share one thing they’re grateful for. 3. Lead by example. Kids are always watching. When adults and older siblings say thank you to cashiers, servers, and each other, children learn that gratitude is just what we do. 4. Hug someone! Tell them you’re thankful they’re in your life. It costs nothing and means everything. 5. Say thank you with cookies. Bake and deliver a homemade treat to your local fire station, police department, pediatrician, or dentist’s office. 6. Help out without being asked. Make it a daily goal to do one helpful thing for someone in the family, no reminders needed. 7. Thank a teacher or coach. A handwritten note or a card your child decorates lets them know their effort makes a difference. 8. Volunteer together. Spend a weekend
morning at a food pantry or animal shelter, and consider making it a regular family commitment. 9. Create a Thanksgiving memory book. Ask everyone to jot down a thought or add a photo on Thanksgiving Day. Bring it out each year and watch it grow. 10. Encourage generosity. Before the holiday gifts arrive, go through toys and clothes together and let your kids choose items to donate to families in need. 11. Make a gratitude jar. Family members write what they’re thankful for on slips of paper throughout the year. Open the jar on New Year’s Eve and relive those special moments. 12. Share stories of gratitude. Read books or watch shows together that celebrate kindness and giving thanks, then talk about them.
13. Thank your children. When your kids do something kind, notice it and say so. Show appreciation to the people closest to you, too, so your children see that gratitude is for everyone. This season, let’s slow down, look around, and say thank you a little more often. The more we practice gratitude together, the more natural it becomes.
