At After Hours Pediatrics Urgent Care, we understand how frustrating it can be to see your child suffer from constant sneezing, itchy eyes, or a nagging cough. Environmental and seasonal allergies are very common in children and can often mimic a cold or even asthma. Knowing the signs and how to manage them can help your child breathe easier and feel better, especially during peak allergy seasons.
What Are Environmental and Seasonal Allergies?
Allergies occur when a child’s immune system overreacts to something in the environment, such as pollen, dust mites, mold, or pet dander. In seasonal allergies, often called “hay fever” or allergic rhinitis. Common Triggers:
• Spring: Tree pollen (like oak, maple, and birch)
• Summer: Grass pollen (like Bermuda or Timothy)
• Fall: Weed pollen (like ragweed)
• Year-Round: Dust mites, mold, pet dander
Signs and Symptoms: Symptoms of allergies can range from mild to more severe, and they often affect the nose, eyes, throat, and skin. Common signs include: sneezing and nasal congestion, runny or itchy nose, itchy, watery, or red eyes, coughing or throat clearing, postnasal drip, dark circles under the eyes ("allergic shiners") and trouble sleeping due to nasal blockage. In some children, allergies can also worsen asthma symptoms, leading to wheezing or shortness of breath.
If your child’s symptoms are persistent or seem to flare up during specific seasons, allergies may be the cause. Typically your pediatric provider may diagnose it after a discussion of your symptoms and exam. Your pediatric provider may additionally recommend allergy testing to help identify specific triggers. This could involve a skin test or a simple blood test.
Managing and Treating Allergies Fortunately, there are many ways to help children manage their allergies: Avoidance: Try to limit exposure to known triggers. Keep windows closed during high pollen seasons, use air purifiers, and bathe your child after outdoor play. Medications: Over-the-counter antihistamines, nasal sprays, or allergy eye drops can help relieve symptoms. For more severe cases, your provider may recommend prescription treatments.
When to Visit After Hours Pediatrics Urgent Care
While most allergy symptoms can be managed at home, there are times when a visit to our urgent care is helpful: your child is having trouble breathing or wheezing, allergy symptoms are disrupting sleep or school performance, symptoms seem like a cold but aren’t improving, you’re unsure whether your child has allergies or another illness. We're here evenings, weekends, and holidays when your regular pediatrician may not be available because kids don’t just get sick during office hours. After Hours Pediatrics Urgent Care — Trusted care, for over 25 years!

Mommy Makeovers: Regaining Confidence After Motherhood
Becoming a mother is one of life’s most beautiful experiences—but it also brings emotional and physical changes that may leave women feeling disconnected from their pre-baby bodies. For some, a “mommy makeover” can be an empowering step toward feeling like themselves again.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is a customizable set of procedures, often including:
• Breast surgery (augmentation, lift, reduction, or a combination) to restore volume or correct sagging after breastfeeding.
• Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) to tighten abdominal muscles and remove excess skin or stretch marks.
• Liposuction is often added to sculpt the waist or hips, further enhancing results.
These procedures aim to restore confidence, not just aesthetics.
Who is a Good Candidate?
A mommy makeover is ideal for women who:
• Are finished having children.
• Have physically and emotionally recovered from childbirth
• Are at or near their goal weight
When is the Right Time?
Timing is a key factor in both safety and success. Generally, patients should wait:
• At least 6 months postpartum
• Until breastfeeding has stopped for at least 3–6
months (to allow breast tissue to stabilize).
• Until they have completed their family planning.
Equally important is having reliable help at home. Recovery from a mommy makeover is significant, and lifting young children may not be possible for a few weeks post-op.
What Moms Should Know
A mommy makeover is a deeply personal decision. It’s not about chasing perfection—it’s about aligning how you feel on the inside with how you see yourself in the mirror. Some women feel empowered by exercise and nutrition alone, while others find surgery helps close the gap between how they look and how they used to feel. There’s no “right” way to reclaim your confidence after motherhood. But if you’re curious about surgical options, it helps to start with education, consultation, and self-reflection.
Start with a free orientation to learn more in a supportive setting. Many women also find connection through Bustmob, a private online community offering real stories, advice, and encouragement. Motherhood may change your body—but it doesn’t have to change how you feel about yourself.
We offer both virtual and in-person consultations to meet you where you are.

• Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes
• Sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 45. Pro tip: Apply sunscreen before leaving home - send a bottle for reapplication pack a hat/ sunglasses
• Insect repellant wipes and/or insect repellent wristband (do not send an aerosol can of insect repellant–the spray will sting if it gets in your child’s eyes.)
• Bathing suit and towel
• Bring two water bottles one that is frozen to enjoy later as it melts.
• Comfortable running shoes or closed-toe sports sandals WITH socks
• Extra set of clothes (especially a pair of socks and shirt if they get wet from the rain)

A sandwich (avoid peanut butter since most camps are nut-free), fruit and a juice box or water makes for a healthy lunch. Granola bars make an excellent snack. Some camps may have snack bars or vending machines. Notify the camp of any food allergies your child may have.
• Do not bring valuable items like electronics.
Tidy Tools for Dad: Thoughtful Father’s Day Gifts He’ll Actually Use
BY AMY BERGMAN
We are only a few weeks away from Father’s Day. Looking for the perfect gift? How about a gift that will help dad or grandpa tidy up and be organized? Whether you’re shopping for your own father, a stepdad, father-in-law, grandpa, or a father figure who’s made a difference in your life—this is a great time to celebrate all kinds of dads. No matter what role they play, helping them stay organized can be both practical and deeply appreciated.
It’s easy to overlook the stress clutter creates in our daily routines, even for dads. From the tools in the garage to golf accessories, grilling gear, and everyday carry items, their belongings deserve just as much care and order as anyone else’s. A thoughtful organizing gift shows you see what matters to them and want to support them in keeping their spaces functional and frustration-free.
Here are my 5 Favorite Organizational Gifts for the man in your life:
1. Tile Key Finder: This is a gift that really helps everyone! Tired of hearing, “Where are my keys?” This small device helps dad find misplaced
things nearby and far away by using Tile trackers and the free Tile app. But it’s not just for car keys—you can get a Tile for the things you use every day. Attach it to luggage, electronics, bikes, or even remote controls.
2. Bike Organizer Bag: Shopping for the active dad? A bike organizer bag could be a great fit. This model protects his phone while still allowing GPS visibility through the weatherproof clear sleeve. Plus, it has extra storage to minimize all the clutter in his pockets and it’s less than $20.
3. Golf Club Stand Organizer: Is dad a golfer? If his clubs and gear are scattered around, consider a golf club stand organizer to keep everything upright and in one place. It includes side storage for balls, tees, and shoes. Bonus: it helps keep the garage tidy too, which makes this a win/win.
4. Docking Station Organizer: How’s dad’s nightstand looking? A docking station organizer is a sleek way to corral phones, watches, keys, wallets, and more. This wooden version is compatible with all smartphones and brings
order to the usual end-of-day pile-up.
5. BBQ Accessory Organizer: If dad is a grill master, the BBQ Accessory Organizer will be a game-changer. It keeps all of his tools at arm’s reach with double-sided hooks, a paper towel holder, and a weather-shielded shelf for spices, marinades, and gadgets.
Maybe one of these ideas will be the perfect gift for your dad this Father’s Day. And don’t forget, sometimes the best gift isn’t a physical item at all. You can also give the gift of organizing with a gift certificate from Amyzing Spaces. It’s a meaningful way to help the dad in your life start his clutter-free journey with support and intention.
Because every dad—whether he's grilling, golfing, biking, working, or just trying to get out the door
