A TROPICAL OASIS IN THE COLOMBIAN LANDSCAPE

S-20 House embodies the essence of a tranquil escape from the bustling Colombian capital of Bogota. A three-hour drive from the capital, this house is located in most Bogotan’s go-to getaway destination from the chaos of the city.

The design seamlessly blends modern principles with elements that echo the surrounding natural environment. Spacious, light-filled, and well-ventilated living areas seamlessly integrate with the outdoors through strategic layout and expansive windows. This fosters a sense of openness and promotes a true indoor-outdoor living experience.

The house boasts four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and inviting common spaces, all designed for a life of leisure away from the city, as well as its private pool, which creates a haven for relaxation. This project addressed the unique challenge of designing a house situated at the bustling entrance of a residential complex. The main road frontage generated significant noise pollution and required a solution to ensure privacy for the residents.

STRATEGIC FACADE DESIGN

This project’s innovative approach focused on the facade itself. Facing the noisy street, we created a solid wall, effectively mitigating noise intrusion and providing a sense of seclusion. To counterbalance this exterior wall, the interior facade facing the residential complex features expansive windows and open spaces. This creates a sense of connection and allows residents to enjoy natural light and views of the tranquil internal environment. This strategic facade design delivers the best of both worlds: a quiet, private haven within the home, and a connection to the peaceful interior courtyard of the condominium.

NUEVO PALOS VERDES

Location: Cedritos - Bogota, Colombia

Type: Residential Complex

Area: 6.485m2

Year: 2014-2016

Status: Completed

Client: Ayala Construcciones

This residential complex is located in the Cedritos neighborhood of Bogota, Colombia. The classic Bogotá brick facade, a nod to the city’s architectural heritage, is complemented by a design that prioritizes light, comfort, and connection to the outdoors.

The complex features a single tower with a thoughtfully curated mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Each unit is designed with a minimalist aesthetic, maximizing natural light and fostering a sense of openness. Carefully placed windows ensure each apartment capitalizes on stunning views, while balconies facing the street extend the living space and provide a platform to connect with the neighborhood’s energy.

MAXIMIZING EFFICIENCY ON A NARROW SITE: A FUNCTIONAL APARTMENT BUILDING

This project presented a unique challenge: optimizing the layout for a long and narrow plot. The solution lies in a central circulation core, allowing for efficient access to lightfilled apartments positioned on each side. This configuration maximizes usable space while minimizing wasted square footage.

The building’s facade embraces sustainability through the use of local materials. Classic red brick, a hallmark of the city’s architecture, takes center stage. This choice not only reflects the local aesthetic but also offers a practical advantage: its low maintenance cost ensures long-term durability and affordability.

BREATHING NEW LIFE INTO A CLASSIC APARTMENT

This project involved the comprehensive transformation and remodeling of a 250-square-meter apartment in Bogotá’s prestigious El Nogal neighborhood. Originally part of a 30-year-old building, the space possessed undeniable potential. However, time had taken its toll, leaving the apartment outdated in both style and functionality and the clients sought a contemporary and rejuvenated living environment.

FROM DATED TO DAZZLING

The meticulous remodeling process completely overhauled the layout and infused the space with modern design principles. The resulting apartment boasts three spacious bedrooms, each with a private en-suite bathroom, providing a luxurious haven its residents. A dedicated office space caters to work-from-home needs, while a family room, living room, and dining room create inviting areas for relaxation and social gatherings. A thoughtfully designed kitchen facilitates culinary endeavors, and a separate laundry room ensures functionality. Preserving the needs of staff, the original service quarters were also meticulously remodeled.

MODERN KITCHEN TRANSFORMATION: FOSTERING FAMILY CONNECTION

This project transformed a dated apartment by focusing on creating a modern and functional kitchen. The existing layout lacked flow, preventing the space from functioning as a central hub for family gatherings. The clients, who cherish the kitchen as a space for social connection, desired an open and inviting environment.

To achieve this vision, I implemented a strategic demolition of select walls, seamlessly integrating the kitchen with the dining room. This open-concept design fosters a sense of connection and allows for easy interaction between family members while cooking and socializing.

FUNCTIONALITY MEETS STYLE:

Understanding the client’s need for increased storage and workspace, the new kitchen boasts ample, well-designed cabinets and expansive countertops. High-end materials and luxurious finishes, including Blum hardware and Dekton countertops, elevate the space’s aesthetics while ensuring durability and functionality.

REINVENTING SPACE IN A CLASSIC BOGOTA APARTMENT

This project involved the complete transformation and remodeling of an apartment in Bogotá’s renowned Chicó neighborhood. The client enlisted my services before purchasing the property, seeking guidance in finding the perfect space with hidden potential.

UNEARTHING POTENTIAL:

Our collaborative search led us to an unexpected gem: a spacious apartment within a well-maintained older building. While the unit itself required significant work, its layout hinted at exciting possibilities.

The challenge lay in maximizing the apartment’s potential.

The solution involved a bold intervention - the demolition of strategic walls to create a large, open-plan living area encompassing the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

INDUSTRIAL CHIC:

This transformation revealed the existing concrete structure, which we treated to enhance its aesthetic appeal. This exposed concrete became a defining element, contributing to the modern industrial vibe perfectly suited to the client’s taste.
