"TOGETHER, WE CAN DO MUCH" Feilding & District Promotion, celebrating our community. As we all exhale into the end of what has been a year to remember that we would probably rather forget, I would like to take this time to reflect. What has become apparent to me and a lot of others is something we knew but took for granted: the Manawatū is a wonderful place to live. Our community supports one another in such a way that is envied from the outside. We come together, roll our sleeves up and get stuck in. There is a wonderful quote from Helen Keller: “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” This epitomises our community spirit. I would like to say a huge thank you to the wonderful team at Feilding & District Promotion: Denise Andrews, our Information Centre Officer; Georgina Bodenham, our Accounts Manager; Kathryn Graham, our Media & Marketing Manager; Steph Strahan, our Farmers Market Manager; Vicki Wills, our Event Coordinator and our newest team member – Liz Swinbanks, our Business Support Officer. This team is just that – a team, who support and care about one another and provide fantastic service, information and support to the community. FDP have some great initiatives coming up in the New Year. We have recently started running seminars to help our local businesses. There will be a range of these coming up in 2021. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for details. FDP are here to help our local businesses and community. If you need advice, support or information, please get in touch. From our whanau to yours, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season.

The Tasman Sea "COASTAL ESCAPE, JUST DOWN THE ROAD" Himatangi Beach, where the land meets the sea.
Manawatū District is home to a gorgeous coastline with a white sand beach that stretches as far as the eye can see, Himatangi Beach is in the centre of the largest sand dune geographical feature in New Zealand. The long sandy beach is a favourite coastal drive. It is a road, and road rules do apply when driving on the beach. Always check the sand and creek before driving onto it, 4WD’s are advisable. People love to build rugged driftwood huts for their picnic place on the beach. In the village you’ll find everything you need for your day trip or summer staycation. Kids just love the adventure playground, concrete skating rink and mini golf. Himatangi Beach store offers takeaways and everything else a good kiwi dairy offers. "BUY WITH CONFIDENCE,SELL WITH SUCCESS" Team Campbell – Julie and Bill Campbell for all things Real Estate.
Harcourts Team Campbell, Julie and Bill are true blue locals committed and connected to their local community. With a combined 30 years’ experience, they’ve been busy helping people and guiding them through their real estate journey when buying or selling homes across the region. Historically, Palmerston North was always higher in price than Feilding, however Feilding has topped the city several times this year. “In October alone the average price in Feilding was $541,000. People are preferring to buy in Feilding and district. A big attraction is the sense of community and belonging that people feel here. No parking metres and traffic lights- fits with our rural feel, an easy 15-20 minute commute to the city, and our central location have huge appeal.” Julie and Bill are also the owners of Ataahua Cottage, a tranquil B&B home away from home on the outskirts of Feilding. Before Covid 19, they hosted people from all over the world. Now their Kiwi visitors come from all over New Zealand to holiday here. "EXPLORE OUR SPECTACULAR BACKYARD" Daytripping, weekender or staycation- there's something for everyone to experience.
There are two camping grounds in Tōtara Reserve, one large site, Kererū which is adjacent to Camp Rangi Woods accommodation blocks and hall/kitchen, and one smaller site, Kahikatea which is across the road. If you are coming from Feilding, once you reach the Tōtara Reserve turn-off (Pohangina Valley East Road), keep travelling north until you get to the Highland Christian Camp then veer off to the left. Amenities on site include toilets, showers, electric BBQs, a 'back to roots' adventure playground, powered and unpowered tent sites, and river access. Kahikatea campground is opened for camping from Labour Weekend through until the end of April. Tōtara Reserve’s Kererū campground will open in time for Christmas following Horizons Regional Council contracting the removal of poplar trees to improve safety at the popular site and provides an opportunity to plant native species in the area. The numerous bush walks will remain open while the poplars are removed, and other camp improvements, including water upgrades, increased pest control and biodiversity programmes will continue to be made. There will be no swimming in Pohangina River at Tōtara Reserve until both campgrounds have been opened. Bookings can be made by contacting the caretaker, Kelly, on 06 3294 737. Tōtara Reserve Regional Park "OUR ANCIENT FOREST AWAITS YOU" A place to be at one with nature, abounding with native flora and wildlife. Nestled in the Pohangina Valley and just 35km from Feilding lays Tōtara Reserve Regional Park; one of the best and most accessible examples of the ancient native lowland forest that once covered much of the region. Covering 340 ha of bush, the reserve offers a wide range of attractions for daytrippers, weekenders and holiday makers, as a gentle introduction to nature and a safe way of experiencing ‘wild’ New Zealand. This Reserve is a much-prized area of bush with a Podocarp forest covering hills and valleys. Predominant trees include Tōtara, Matai, Rimu and Kahikatea. There are also some Black Beech trees and Dicksonia Squarrosa tree ferns. Native Birds to be found in the reserve include Tui, Fantail (Piwakawaka) Wax eye, Morepork, Bellbird, Kingfisher and Kereru (Wood Pigeon). There are a good variety of long and short walks within the reserve, which is also a popular camping and picnic spot, with plenty of facilities available. Kahikatea Walk is an easy 20 minute walk, and is a great introduction to a broadleaved forest, suitable for young and old to explore. As the name of the walk suggests, mature kahikatea are the stars in this reserve. Lie on your back, look up at the canopy and admire these majestic forest giants. From walking tracks and swimming holes, to the native wildlife and flora that is scattered all over the park, here is a place in the Manawatū District that gives an opportunity to experience the real New Zealand.

Ready Set Summer "HELPING TO KEEP OUR BEACHES SAFE"
Palmerston North Surf Life Saving Club, out on patrol this summer at Himatangi Beach. Palmerston North Surf Life Saving Club has been patrolling Himatangi beach since the early 1950’s with a strong following of members from across the region surrounding the club. This summer the local life saver volunteers will patrol on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays from 11:00pm to 5:00pm starting from Saturday 28 November throughout the peak months of December, January and February. A Regional Lifeguard Service is provided Monday to Friday from 11:00am to 6:00pm for six weeks from 21 December until 29 January 2021. Who doesn’t love playing at the beach? Whether you're surfing, body boarding, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking or thinking about bringing one of those pool toys to the beach... you need to know the safety messages to make sure everyone returns home safely. SWIM BETWEEN THE FLAGS: If you are heading out to the beach, choose a lifeguarded one, such as Himatangi Beach, and remember the red and yellow flags show the safest area to swim. CLOSE ENOUGH TO CUDDLE: Keep your kids within arm's reach at all times in or near the water – rogue or large waves move quickly. TALK TO THE SURF LIFEGUARDS: Even though conditions can change quickly, our lifeguards keep a constant eye on the beach situation and understand the swell and tide conditions – they’re a friendly bunch too! KNOW YOUR LIMITS and IF IN DOUBT, STAY OUT! Club Captain Josh Daniel invites anyone interested in joining or learning more about the club to make yourself known at the Lido training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm or on Sundays for juniors (under 13 year olds) between 9-10am. Ride "GRAVEL & TAR"
Catch all the action of the Cycling Spree weekend for the Manawatū region in 2021. Be at the starting line for the two main events in friendly Feilding!
In a first for the Manawatū, there will be a full weekend of cycling related events for the entire community on Wellington Anniversary weekend from 22 to 25 January 2021 with the Manawatū Cycling Spree. The Manawatū Cycling Spree will include more than eight events over four days. And once again the main events, the Gravel and Tar (for pro riders) and the Slicks and Stones (for amateurs) start in Feilding on the morning of Saturday 23 January. In 2021 for the first time, there will be an e-bike category in the Slicks and Stones, and to encourage cyclists who may be a bit daunted by riding the 100kms of the Slicks and Stones, there will now be a shorter version, the Slicks and Stones Lite with a ride over 46kms. Slicks and Stones is for the hard-core sport and weekend rider who wants to experience the same arduous route as the professional riders in the Gravel and Tar. Slicks and Stones provides an opportunity for junior, masters, and weekend warrior riders to experience the undulating roads and gravel sectors the beautiful Manawatū countryside has to offer. It is best to enter online but you can enter on the day of the ride in Feilding Town Square between 8am and 9.15am outside FMG, ready for the start at 10am sharp!

"CAPTURE IT, PRINT IT, PERSONALISE IT"
Feilding Photo & Print, creating more with your photos.
One door closes, another door opens. A light at the end of the tunnel was how Amy Young described the exciting new business opportunity that has seen her seven years experience in the photographic and printing industry continue to be put to good use, while the community benefits by retaining specialist services locally. With the closure earlier this year of local store Photographic & Print Solutions, Amy's focus was to continue to offer many of the services to her customers, with a friendly professional approach. With a soft opening to the public for her new shop, Feilding Photo and Print, Amy said it was great to have so many local people pop in with well-wishes of support and encouragement. Feilding Photo & Print offers a wide variety of services including photo preservation through digital restoration, custom framing, canvas printing, personalised gifts including mug and t-shirt printing. Instant instore services include photocopying, laminating, binding and photo printing. 47 Kimbolton Road, Feilding Telephone: 06 241 8433 Email: feildingphotoandprint@gmail.com

Michael Ford has worked in the property industry for 42 years, as both a Registered Valuer and Real Estate Agent- 37 of those years based in Feilding.

"GOOGLE MY BUSINESS" CEDA, helping businesses improve their online search ranking The Central Economic Development Agency (CEDA) recognise that many Manawatū businesses are not listed on Google Maps. With 90% of people using Google daily as a search tool to find local businesses, it is an essential platform to showcase your business. Currently, 37% of Manawatū business listings on Google are incomplete, missing basic information such as opening hours. Missing information means businesses are less likely to appear in the Google search ranking and will be difficult to find. CEDA’s Top Tips for optimising your Google My Business listing:
1. Get listed and get verified. It’s free and one of the best tools online to get more customers. 2. Regularly updating your opening hours is the most simple and effective way to maintain and increase ranking in Google Maps. 3. Add photographs that accurately represent your business. Good quality and up-to-date photos are a key part of visibility and ranking, helping customers to make decisions and giving you higher exposure rates. 4. Get reviewed. Ask your customers to review your business and respond to them. Responding to at least 30% of reviews, even just to say thank you, will increase your overall ranking. 5. Add your website and contact details. If you don't have a website, add your social media links.
You can take the free Google My Business workshop online now at www.ceda.nz/toolkit/visitor-sector-support/.
