Summer Science at the Seashore: Extended Classes Tales Between the Tides

Session 1 -- Tuesday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 19 10 - 11:30am Session 2 -- Thursday, June 20 and Friday, June 21 10 - 11:30am Session 3 – Tuesday, August 20 and Wednesday, August 21 10 - 11:30am Session 4 – Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23 10 - 11:30am Discover nature as we explore the ocean at "see" level. In the Aquarium and in our classroom laboratory you will hear delightful ocean stories, touch live sea animals and make your very own special craft. Galloping Snails
Grades 1 - 2
Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 28 9am - 12noon Monday, July 29 through Friday, August 2 9am - 12noon Watch snails gallop and other fascinating seashore animal behavior through shoreline exploration and laboratory activities. Crab Shells
Grades 3 - 4
Monday, July 8 through Friday, July 12 9am -12noon Monday, August 5 through Friday, August 9 9am -12noon Observe animal behavior as you hold hermit crabs, go crab fishing, feed barnacles and more! Discover the diversity of crabs in our local coastal habitats as we visit the salt marsh, sandy beach and rocky shore in search of crabs and their ocean going and land dwelling relatives. Coastal Field Research
Grades 7-9
Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26 9am - 12noon Combine Marine Biology with art as we do laboratory and field research in our daily trips to the Cabrillo Beach Coastal Park! Students will keep a field journal and participate in field research to investigate the rocky intertidal, sandy beach and mudflats through paint brushes, pen, paper, and the lens of a camera. SEA Club
Wednesdays, September 4, 11, 18, 25 3:30 - 5pm • Grades 4-6 Wednesdays, October 2, 9, 16, 23 3:30 - 5pm • Grades 2-3 In September and October, on four consecutive Wednesday afternoons join CMA Educators for a series of hands-on, afterschool marine science adventures. Activities include observing animal behavior; examining rocky shore animals at the tidepools; exploring the wonders of mud at the salt marsh and getting up-close with microscopes. Students help plan the schedule. No walk-ins please, registration is required; call 310-548-7562. Deadline to register is one week before the class begins. Fee: $30 ($27 FRIENDS members) for the series and includes a SEA Club T-shirt. Financial assistance available.
