Should you get a job related to your future major or take whatever you can get?

If you find something in your area of interest, why not?

You can’t put a price on experience and it’s always great to get paid doing what you love while practicing what you will learn in college?

Get creative when looking for jobs. If your major is a foreign language, become a language tutor for beginners! If you’re majoring in fashion, get a job in the clothing department of a department store.

Hey, it still gets you around clothes! If technology is your preference, look for work online. The point is to immerse yourself in an environment that is close to your interest. Good luck!

Now that you have a job and are making money, how are you going to use your money?

Saving is the key to getting the things in life that are important to you, like saving for a car when you get your license. In addition to the cost of the car, you will need money for gas and auto insurance, so you will have to save for that also. Hobbies like rock climbing or skateboarding can get expensive too.

A good savings plan sets money aside for big purchases in the future and short-term needs.

Even if your only money now is an allowance from your parents, get in the habit of saving to make your money go further.
