In a former work was discussed the birth and development of the Institute of the Sisters of St Joseph in the 17th century by a Jesuit priest with the devoted cooperation of father de maps, Bishop of Le Puy in Velay. This institute od sty Joseph was almost completely annihilated during the French Revolution. Mother Saint John Fontbonne was to be instrumental in the resurgence of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. This is her story.

This is the life of a num but much more than a biography. The reader will be enchanted by this Scottish-born lass but also by the story of the growth and development in 20th century Florida. Here too is the history of the Sisters of St Joseph in St Augustine Fl. The days of Henry Flagler are highlighted, as are the religious convictions of the people of his time. The life of Sister Theresa Joseph, the religious name of Jean Gordon Brown was full of trial and adventure, beginning with her BX4705.B84653 conversion to the Catholic faith. This book provides a detailed look as Unknown Q56 the life as a sister in a convent prior to Vatican II. T. J. meant Mother Theresa Joseph, educator and builder, stamp collector and traveler.

Taller that most men, she possessed a deep and commanding voice, one that had much to say in influencing Catholic education during the first half of the 20th century in Florida, As Jean Gordon Brown, Presbyterian, she boarded at St Joseph's Academy but became a nun after graduation....

17th century France was characterized by economic, political, social, and spiritual miseries. The country, like most of Europe, had been plagued by wars, crop failures, and disease. Religious leadership was, for the most part, in the hands of the nobility whose main interests were political and social rather than spiritual, as the needs of the poor Internal Sr St Mark were many and great. Conscious of these needs, Fr Medaille publication envisioned a new group of religious women within the Church. At that time in history, religious women, by definition, were cloistered. He established an Order, not cloistered, but dedicated to the needs of their brothers and sisters.

A first translation into English of the principal writings of Father Medaille under one cover. In updated Directory of their Congregation in 1984 the SSJ made affirmations: to deepen their understanding of the founding charism of the congregation and to grow in appreciation of their identity as Sisters of St Joseph. To reflect often on that faith vision of Fr Medaille which found resonance in the hearts of the first sisters, and which gave to his little design its particular characteristics.
