Abstract Unlike Romans, it has almost no structure; it answers successfully a number of unrelated questions. However the nature of the questions makes it one of Paul's most interesting epistles. The letter makes it clear that some of the Corinthians had no respect for Paul as a person or as an Apostle. Paul's sharp rebuke finds no other parallel in the New Testament. One of the earliest of Paul's epistles; addressed the first major crisis of the Church; the fact that this community considered itself a sect within Judaism.
Paul's letters have the same creative effect for the individual person which they have had in the growth of the Christian Church. Epistles was written to meet the need of dealing with Gnosticism. Its roots go deep into Judaism, Zerwick, Max Hellenism, and Oriental cults. Gnosticism conceived of the saving work of God as revelation rather than as salvation, and the effect of the saving act as knowledge rather than as life. These are two of the smaller epistles of Paul. Thought to be written while imprisoned and connected with the narrative in Acts 21-28. At Colossae, the problem addressed by Paul is related to false doctrines. The doctrine specifically is unclear (perhaps Gnosticism). The issue in Philippi is more Gnilka, Joachim subtle. In both epistles Paul reaches the same positive theme of centrality in Mussner, Franz Christ as the true guiding light. Paul tells the Philippians to grasp his mind and attitude. The centrality of Christ in Colossians is paralleled only in Ephesians, where Christ appears as a cosmic figure, central in creation as he is in redemption. Thes. I is the first of the extant letters of Paul to be written. Thes. II is perhaps Schurmann, Heinz the work of Paul. The two letters address the thought in the early Church that Egenolf, Hansthe Second Coming of Jesus was imminent and Paul shared this belief. The Andreas thrust of both letters is that the time of the Second Coming had nothing to do with the character of the Christian life. These two epistles with the letter to Titus are grouped as "pastoral epistles", addressed to individuals that have responsibility in the Church but are not Bishops, distinguished from other Pauline letters which are all addressed to Reuss, Joseph churches. Emphasis is placed on what a church officer should say and do in order for church members to profess the Christian faith and live the Christian life.

Abstract
Hebrews and James are called Catholic or General Epistles because they are not addressed to any particular church or person, as the letters of Paul are. The title "Hebrews" does not belong to this epistle as it is not addressed to Schierse, F. J. Jewish Christians. James, on the other hand, was written by a Jewish Knock, Otto Christian for Jewish Christians. If any New Testament document should be called an epistle to the Hebrews, it is James. James teaches the Christ eventthe saving death and resurrection in New Testament terms. These two epistles are included among the General epistles. The first epistle is addressed to churches in some regions of Asia Minor, and the second epistle to no one. The first epistle has a primarily moral interest addressed to Christians who are suffering or threatened by persecution. The first epistle Schwank, Benedikt presents Jesus Christ as an example of the Christian life. The second epistle is Stoger, Alois a singular concern, and that is eschatology. The Christians must understand that God's mysterious tolerance of evil is not due to his inability to cope with evil. The apocalyptic visions of judgement must be retained as a part of the biblical revelation of God. The simplicity of I John is due in part to the vocabulary of John both in the Gospel and the Epistles. The second two epistles are present only because a genuine effort was made to collect all the writings attributed to John. The sublimity of John's Gospel and epistles is achieved by generous use of key Johannine words that evoke an unworldly atmosphere, words like LightThusing, Wilhelm darkness, truth-lie, and Life-death, When Jesus in the Gospel of John says he Stoger, Alois is the way, the truth and the life, a sentence is composed which invites one to meditation. The Epistle of Jude is another very small New Testament letter. It is a document that expresses concern with doctrine not found in the New Testament writings. A false doctrine that liberates the Christian from restraint is addressed.

The key to understanding the Epistles is to read them carefully and inquisitively. Twenty-one of the New Testament books are epistles. This leaves the four Gospels, Acts and the Revelation of John.
