Atlantic Health System
Morristown Medical Center
Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute
Morristown, NJ
240,000 SF

FCA designed this new building addition to house a comprehensive array of cardiovascular services in one location. Visitors and patients are comforted by learning that they no longer have to travel all over campus, or to other, outside facilities, in order to receive the necessary services required for their care. Gagnon links major service lines to one another, enhancing wayfinding across campus. The facility includes 88 cardiac care beds, 10 cardiovascular ICU beds, 8 critical care beds, and 14 cardiac PACU beds.
It also includes an Integrated Medicine department to provide outpatient alternative techniques for healing and heart healthy lifestyles with dedicated spaces for massage, yoga, meditation and cooking classes. There are eight operating rooms, including four cardiovascular OR’s, two endovascular OR’s and two hybrid ORs with fixed Siemens imaging equipment (robotic arm imaging and a bi-plane lab). Each OR is sized to accommodate multiple types of procedures, and is equipped with robotics for minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.
A central sterile supply corridor with case cart alcoves provides supplies and instruments to all of the OR’s and minimizes travel distances for staff. Shared physician/ technology review areas have direct observation into multiple OR’s. Each OR has internal/external tele-conferencing technology built into its documentation stations – these promote education and training throughout the health system.
Two OR’s are configured with fixed imaging to support the latest in minimally invasive technologies for cardiology and neurological interventions. The hospital is registered as a U.S. Green Building Council Green Guide for Healthcare building.

Geisinger Health System
Wyoming Valley Medical Center
Wilkes Barre, PA
Geisinger Health System has partnered with FCA since 1997 on five master plans and numerous renovation and new construction projects, continually enhancing its facilities and reinforcing its reputation as one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers. Over the course of this long-standing relationship, FCA has delivered projects ranging from the Heart Hospital at Geisinger Wyoming Valley—a 50,000 SF, $15.9M stateof-the-art cardiovascular center—to the 39,000 SF, $18M Henry Cancer Center, completed in 2010, which also serves as a new entrance to the adjacent Cancer Center at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
A major milestone was the transformation of the 178,000 SF Wyoming Valley Medical Center from a community hospital into a regional institution. Through collaborative planning and design development, FCA expanded the campus by 50% over four years, overcoming challenges such as restrictive sub-surface conditions, a mountainside site, and the need to maintain full operations during construction.
