Children’s Ministry: “Growing Love

GROWING LOVE

In the midst of the colder days of winter a fire was kindled. The kindling was the visit of our global servant Deliris Carrión-Joseph, a guest at the Children’s Sunday School Zoom gathering. The children wanted to know how they could help children and their families in Mexico during these cold winter months.

Fast Forward as the fire continues to spark. Families gathered enough warm clothes, shoes and blankets to fill to the brim a small red hybrid electric vehicle. Gliding quietly (because it is electric) 130 miles south down the freeway, it pulled into a parking lot. The car pulled up to another small red Toyota Corolla and we flipped our trunks up. The many bags were dragged out of one car and into another. It took our body weight to stuff it into the waiting vehicle. As we headed home we could see in our rear view mirror the country where our brothers and sisters in Christ struggle. Our children’s love and generosity will make a difference to some other beloved children of God’s who reside so close to us in the United States. Yet they do not have many basic necessities to be comfortable in the colder months of winter.

The fire continued to burn in the hearts of our children. A packet of valentine crafty items were sent out to the families and envelopes were provided. Messages and photos of the children came flooding into me: our children busily working on art that could show their love to others. Many of you received these acts of love.

Showing love is a natural for our children. It is those of us who are adults that need to stoke the flame and provide models and opportunities for their love to grow. Each of our children have received the makings of a purple paper Lenten chain with 40 strips to aid in the process of growing love. There are suggestions on the purple strips to encourage prayer, sacrifice and giving.

God is growing love in our children,

PRAISE GOD!

Lenten Blessings, Pastor Cheryl
