Children’s Ministry: “Children’s Sunday School Kick Off of the Technological Wall

CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL KICK-OFF OF THE TECHNOLOGICAL WALL

The phrase “kick-off” usually means the start of something like a game or an event. But it can be used as a phrase to push away from. Like swimmers who kick away from the side of the pool wall to start another lap. Teachers are kicking away from the side of the pool figuratively. They are choosing to kick off in a forward direction knowing that they have completed the laps of learning a new technological teaching method and a matching way to communicate while on-line. Swimming laps takes effort. Similar to teaching, one must literally pull yourself through a substance (water) that is resisting that energy by using your back and arm muscles and the kicking power of your legs. Teaching is hard exhausting work so let us keep our teachers in prayer over the coming months. A new Church education “Kick off” is going to require energy and effort this Fall. We have a forward direction and an attainable goal but it is going to require strong strokes to organize and propel forward. Here is what we are planning for the children. Children’s Sunday School will be hosted at 4:00 pm each Sunday on-line in a Zoom format. All children, toddlers through Junior Disciples, will gather initially together for an opening time (perhaps including a sing-a-long with Jonathan and the Bible story video). After around 15 minutes the age groups of toddlers, preschoolers, early elementary and Junior Disciples will break out in their zoom groups each hosted by an adult teacher. We will enjoy the Bible story of the week and a discussion (15-30 mins.) The duration will depend on the age. If the Junior Disciples want to play a game, we can extend their time. I will continue to send a weekly packet home with the link to the full video, crafts and family activities.
In the past “kick-offs” required initial effort but once the classes began it took on a movement of its own. Just like propelling oneself through water, our Christian education will require energy and effort in the form of technological and biblical curriculum research, trial and creativity. With God’s help and your patience we will grow together in the love and knowledge of the Lord this pandemic season.
Blessings, Pastor Cheryl
