Why does Reason need to be tank mixed with a contact fungicide like Dithane* or Bravo®?
In 1995, potato crops were nearly devastated by the effects of resistant Colorado potato beetle. Then Admire was introduced and potato growers have since grown to trust Admire to protect their investment and deliver unprecedented yield. In just one application – applied in-furrow, as a seed-piece treatment or foliar application – Admire controls Colorado potato beetle, aphid, flea beetle and leafhopper. After more than 13 years, Admire continues to be the top potato insecticide in Canada.

We’ve had potato stands go down prematurely because of early blight and brown spot especially on certain cultivars. In 2007 we successfully used Scala tank mixed with Bravo to combat these problems. In 2007 we had test strips of Scala/Bravo sprayed right beside strips sprayed with Bravo only. The evidence of brown spot deterioration was heavier in the Bravo strips. The whole plant was under stress already before we sprayed Scala. We get a considerable amount of ozone and pollution damage. You could tell the plants did better in the Scala strips. Scala prevents early blight and does damage control on brown spot especially in conditions that favor disease development. Cathy Kwarciak, potato grower Ausable Produce, Grand Bend, ON
Eliminate the competition with Ignite® What happens between the rows of your orchard has a way of impacting the productivity you see on the branches. Like insect pests, orchard weeds cause stress to apple trees diverting vital energy from fruit production. Uncontrolled weeds can also act as a host for disease spores and a home for insects.

Calypso insecticide brought unmatched control options to apple (and pome fruit) growers when it was introduced to the Canadian market in 2007. Calypso marked the first new broad-spectrum insecticide for apple growers in 40 years, since the introduction of organophosphates in the 1960s.
your next season, start from the ground up with Ignite. A non-selective herbicide, Ignite provides burndown of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in established orchards, and controls sucker growth with no risk to mature tress. It works quickly in the heat, eliminating weeds within seven to 10 days of application, and breaks down rapidly in the soil. Ignite works best during warm, humid weather – the same conditions weeds love.
Many organophosphates have been removed – or are at risk of being removed – from the Canadian marketplace, leaving growers fewer options for effective control. Until now, that is, with new Calypso.

We used Calypso last year for mullein bug. We’d sprayed organophosphate for years. Last year we sprayed half an orchard with an organophosphate and the other half with Calypso. We ran a comparison and Calypso worked really well. Calypso is so much nicer to work with compared to the organophosphates. It’s a liquid rather than a powder. We find the powder organophosphate product for mullein bug control is bad for plugging the filters on the sprayer. I have a feeling that it was a lot better on beneficials too. Our goal is to get away from organophosphates and use a more targeted product like Calypso. Brad Oakley, Thornbury, ON apple producer

Calypso works two ways on targeted pests – on contact and by ingestion of treated plant tissue – and keeps on working with residual activity. Calypso is gentle on beneficials and bees, and can be applied at label use rates around bloom without posing a hazard to bees. Use Calypso as part of an Integrated Pest Management program, and as a great replacement for organophosphates.

The new guide brings the Zadoks scale to life with full colour photographs to identify key stages of cereal development, from germination through ripening. An accurate identification of these stages will help with proper timing of fertilizer, plant growth regulator, herbicide and fungicide applications – timing that’s critical to maximize product performance and crop yield. A pocket-size reference for in-field use, A Field Guide to Cereal Staging includes sections on how to select plants
