REGATHERING FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, JEFFERSON CITY, MO
PHASE 3: Worship Gatherings Resume SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 8:15AM AND 10:45AM Before Worship Our insurance provider requires we keep accurate records of the name and contact information for those who attend worship. Please register ahead of time beginning the Tuesday before each Sunday at fbcjc.org/register or call the church office (573.634.3603). Space is limited for each service. Those who do not register ahead of time will fill out a paper form with their name and contact information before entering the worship space.
Entering and Exiting the Building Attendees may enter through Door 4 (first floor/rear parking lot) or Door 1 (front door/sanctuary). Other entrances will not be open. Attendees entering Door 4 (first floor) will use the elevator to get to the fourth floor; to reduce contact, stairs will not be used for general entry/exit. When you enter the building, volunteers will guide you along entry pathways to maintain social distance. Volunteers will seat attendees prior to worship and dismiss attendees at the conclusion of worship. Please be prepared to sit in a different place than your usual seat.
For your Safety If you or your family are not feeling well or have been exposed to COVID-19, please stay home. Those who are aged 65 and older and/or have preexisting medical conditions are encouraged to join us for virtual worship; large gatherings are not safe for these folks. Masks are required for all over the age of 2. We'll have masks available, but encourage you to bring your own. Worship leaders will wear masks except when speaking/singing. Guests are asked to maintain a distance of 6 feet from other guests outside your family at all times. Please do not hug, handshake, or high-five. Sanitizing and washing hands frequently is encouraged. Secure offering boxes will be available in the lobby. While our Worship Teams will lead us in worship, we will not have congregational singing at this time. The sanctuary and bathrooms will be cleaned in-between services.
Restrooms The lobby restroom and the parlor-side women's/men's restrooms will be available for use.
Childcare To maximize safety for children, families, and volunteers, we will not provide childcare during worship at this time. Worship bags will be available for children to use and take home.

We’re excited to announce MIDWEEK, our Wednesday youth program, is returning beginning September 9 with a few COVID adjustments. In order to be as safe as possible, we will follow and enforce new COVID-19 protocols. We understand (and fully support) some of you may still prefer to have your youth participate virtually. We plan to share our messages on our Youtube page (www.youtube. com/refugejc) and will make every effort to include your youth virtually in their small group or a virtual small group. Let Mel know if this is your preference for your teen. WEEKLY SCHEDULE 6:30 - 7:30 pm - Grades 6-8 (doors open at 6:15) 7:30 - 8:00 pm - Transition/Cleaning 8:00 - 9:00 pm - Grades 9-12 (doors open at 7:45) WHAT TO EXPECT We will meet as a large group in the gym, seated in chairs socially distanced. The gym gives us plenty of room to spread out and tall ceilings. The first 25 minutes will be a game, worship and a message ... all following our guidelines. We will dismiss small groups one at a time to go to their designated meeting space inside or outside (if weather permits) for the final 30 minutes. Temps will be checked when youth enter, hand sanitizer will be available and masks will be worn by everyone at all times. Chairs and all touch surfaces will be disinfected between the MS and HS gatherings.

As always, children will be welcomed and loved as we worship together in a new way. Watch for Parent Cues and Weekly Videos provided to every family every week this year. Our elementary students will learn how they can make wise choices.
Our Let’s Talk small groups continue to meet virtually throughout September. Email hannah@fbcjc.org for more info.

We are deeply grateful to Sarah Barnes for her generosity, dedication, and sincere love as a teacher of the Gordon Barnes Bible Teaching Class for 60 years. Sarah has served faithfully, week in and week out, to love and nurture the faith of the Gordon Barnes class’ students. Sarah has had tremendous positive impact in our community on behalf of persons with special needs and their families. She exemplifies for all of us what it looks like to “be the church” in our community. Sarah also serves faithfully in many other ways at FBC. Sarah, we are so blessed to learn from your example of love, service, leadership and generosity of spirit.
A Note from Sarah: I am Sarah Barnes and was one of five persons to organize and start the Gordon Barnes Bible teaching class for persons with disabilities. Initially, it was named the Class for Exceptional Children beginning on October 30, 1960 with five leaders and five students. The class was enjoyed by all. Mrs. O.R. Catron was the teacher and after a few years, she had to move to Sedalia, MO. Venita Scott moved up to teacher and taught until her death. At that time, I became the Director and Teacher of the class. Several teachers came to the class off and on for the next 20+ years. In the class, we had several new students and lost several students to death. My jobs became a little more complicated when I became an athletic coach for the JC Park Board. Some Sundays I had to travel with them out of town and it was sometimes hard to get someone to teach for me. My husband, Gordon Barnes, passed away. In 2011, my son, Gordon Allen, passed. Last year, my son Kevin Barnes passed away as well. Many things have changed in the last several years. We now have a new teacher and a music leader for the Gordon Barnes’ class. Our class has done many mission projects with our church. We have helped at Vacation Bible Camp and Trunk or Treat. We assist the church office with mailings. We help in many other ways. In our class, we teach students to obey God which sometimes means we have to deny our own wishes or desires. We learn to serve God and others, seek God, and share Christ. When coronavirus hit, I began considering retirement from teaching the Gordon Barnes’ class. I then started checking and realized it’s been 60 years since we started this class. I have decided to retire, even it if hurts to think about it! Love you all, Sarah
Congratulations to our FBC Men’s Softball team for their first-place victory in the summer church league – three years in a row! It was another amazing season. A special thanks to Ryan Kormann for organizing the team and to our loyal fans who cheered them on throughout the summer.
