UPCOMING All year long, our worship focus has been, “Come See What Love Can Do.” In September, we will explore one of the most powerful pieces of literature ever written about love—1 Corinthians 13. Although it is often read at weddings, which is appropriate, its context is the rough and tumble of a first-century community trying to get along in the midst of cultural, political, theological, racial and ethnic differences. It’s a timely theme, for sure. And speaking of real, down-to-earth love versus pious platitudes, I want to encourage you to mark the date of Sunday, October 14. Dr. Terrell Carter will be
our guest. He is an African American pastor of a historically white suburban church in St. Louis. He is a seminary professor, author, artist and former St. Louis policeman. He is going to be leading us in “A Conversation on Race” in the morning worship and during an afternoon dialogue. A soup and sandwich lunch will be served before our afternoon session. It’s time we had this congregational conversation. It will be rich and rewarding. Please come and take part. See what love can do. Grace,

KiDS and family ^ Kids overnight camp Watermelon & Worship >
Children’s Choir and First Kids/Friends start on Wednesday, September 5th. Children’s choir is from 4:15-5:00pm. Dinner is from 5:00-5:45pm. First Kids/Friends is from 5:45-6:30pm. Children ages three years old through 6th grade can participate in our Wednesday evening children’s activities.

Brand new this fall! Due to some awesome growth the past couple of years, we decided in the spring, after lengthy conversations, to move to two midweek programs on Wednesday nights. Our mission is to build environments and relationships to inspire young people to pursue intimacy with God, community with believers, and influence with others. and influence with others. Sometimes those environments need to change in order to more effectively fulfill our mission. Thanks for understanding and your grace this year with the changes! Midweek replaces Souled Out! Below is the schedule for Wednesdays beginning September 5. - 5:00 - 5:30 pm - FBC Fellowship Meal (Fellowship Hall on 3rd floor; Cost - $3 for youth) - 5:00 - 6:00 pm - Refuge Room and GYM open for youth to hang and to enjoy our new Refuge Cafe. - 5:30 - 6:30 pm - FBC Orchestra (open to all youth; meets in the sanctuary on the 4th floor) - 6:00 - 7:15 pm - Midweek 7/8 (grades 7 and 8)* - 7:45 - 9:00 pm - Midweek 9/12 (grades 9 through 12) We ask that middle school students be picked up between 7:15 and 7:30 pm to make room for high school students who will be coming for their program. ** For safety reasons, Middle School youth will need to leave after Midweek 7/8. They cannot hang out during the High School Midweek. High School youth cannot hang out in the church during the Middle School Midweek. We are not able to provide supervision during these times for youth not involved in the midweek programs.

Basecamp Sundays, 9:30-10:30 am / Refuge Rm Join us on Sundays for Bible Study (and donuts) in the Refuge Room. In September, we will study the book of First Peter. During adolescence, youth grow in so many ways, including spiritually. This unit finds in 1 Peter five elements of Christian life to help you travel through these changes—hope, holiness, love, suffering, and humility. Peter advised churches in the first century to abide in these attitudes and actions during times of uncertainty and opposition. Through time with Peter’s teachings, we will explore their own experiences of uncertainty and suffering, learning to engage difficult people and circumstances with a spirit of love, hope, and holiness.

Project Homeless Connect October 19, 2018 Volunteers are needed for the fourth annual Project Homeless Connect. This event connects individuals and families experiencing homelessness with assistance, resources and services, including: access to shelter/ housing; food and clothing donations; ID cards; medical and dental care; mental health screening; substance abuse screening; job placement, and much more. Volunteer opportunities: Thursday Setup; Friday, 7:30-10:30am, 8:00am-12:30pm, 12:30pm-4:00pm.
Donations are also needed and can be delivered to the FBC Gym on September 8 from 10am – 1pm. Donations needed: new or clean, gently-used clothing (especially winter coats); new or gently used shoes; new adult white socks (tube socks preferred); new adult underwear, assorted sizes; new washcloths; toiletries for care kits (fingernail clippers, razors, and feminine hygiene products still needed)
