Story #1: A church member told me how much he enjoyed listening to my sermon online, from our website’s audio files. He said one evening, he turned on the TV to the Cardinals’ game, then muted it. He watched the Redbirds, while he listened to me! Story #2: This summer I conducted a funeral here in our sanctuary. A family friend could not come back from London, England for the service, so we Skyped the entire program and he watched it live. Putting these two stories together, I am going to update my resume: “Sager has preached on Cardinals baseball games and he has also conducted a funeral in Great Britain.” Does it ever cease to amaze you how technology has changed our world? But technology is only a tool. Life-transforming, Cross-shaped love is our message. In light of the tragic rise of hate groups and the increase of intemperate speech and violence, God is calling FBC JC to show the world a different way— a way of radical love. The sins of bigotry and hate are as old as creation. But our entire Setting Sail initiatives are drawing us to be different kind of Baptists, different kind of Christians. Whether it is through technology or oldfashioned, face-to-face conversations, God is beckoning us to bring our very best selves to some very old problems in ever new ways. Grace,

Deborah Scott will be leading a Wednesday Night Bible in October. The theme is "Called to Community" - a three week look at the communal nature of God and God's call for union with us, among us and beyond us. Join us from 5:45-6:30pm in room 332 in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome.

Our upcoming block party, hosted in partnership between First Baptist, First United Methodist, and First Christian Church, will take place on E. Capitol Avenue. The street will be closed between Monroe and Adams. The event is for children of all ages from our churches and community. We will have: The Bubble Bus!!, Trunk-Or-Treat, bounce houses, music, food, prizes, and more. Adult Bible Teaching Classes are invited to provide a decorated car and candy for the event. We are also looking for adult volunteers to help greet and run various booths at our event. Please email or call Hannah Coe (hannah@fbcjc.org; (573)6343603) if your class would like to sign up.
RECREATION Children ages kindergarten through 6th grade may register online (registration.upward.org/ UPW64553). You may also pick up a paper form at our church office or children’s areas. Basketball evaluations will take place on Saturday, October 14th from 9am-12pm at the First Christian Church Gym (evaluations will not take place at FBC this year. Practices begin on Monday, December 4th. Games begin on Saturday, January 6th.

FALL RETREAT November 10-12 Cost: $70 Logan Valley Retreat Center in Ellington, Missouri Our Fall Retreat is one of the highlights of the fall semester! We travel to our favorite place for an amazing weekend with one another and with God. (www.loganvalley.org) More details will be mailed in mid-October when registration begins but save the date. SOULED OUT—Wednesdays, 6:00-7:30pm Souled Out meets on Wednesdays from 6-7:30pm in the Refuge Youth Room. Each Wednesday we start with some mixers/games followed by worship and then small groups the last 40 minutes. Its the best night of the week! Our October theme is “Thanks for Sharing!”. The series is about loving others. We will talk about the power of sharing our stuff, our lives and our stories to be used by God. On October 25th, we will meet in the FBC Gym for our game night. Same time - 6:00-7:30pm.
BLOCK PARTY - Sunday, October 29 6:00-8:00pm Our church, along with First Christian and First Methodist, will host a block party on Capitol Avenue for children. Youth will have a car trunk we will host with games and candy! There will be lots of ways to help so mark your calendars.

Welcome Michael! We welcome Michael Ferguson as our new Food Service Director at First Baptist Church! Michael has an extensive background in food service, having served several years in the Food Service Department of the Missouri Highway Patrol as well as the Rickman Conference Center and other local companies. Michael owned and operated his own restaurant, Michael’s Unforgettable BBQ, and currently has his own catering business. Michael will begin October 1.
MISSIONS PROJECT HOMELESS CONNECT is a one day event, hosted on the Capitol Street campuses of First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church and First Christian Church, based on a national service model designed to eliminate as many barriers as possible that keep people homeless or in a state of near-homelessness. Friday, October 20, will be our third annual event in Jefferson City. Volunteers Needed: To register to volunteer on Thursday, October 19, or Friday, October 20, please go to http://jcprojecthomelessconnect.weebly.com/.
Volunteer at South School Volunteers are needed for our partnership with South Elementary School. We are looking for mentors and for volunteers to help students with reading.
