DEAR CHURCH,
Our Entrusted stewardship series centers on the truth that much is entrusted to us by God for God’s glory and the good of others. While stewardship encompasses more than our finances, our finances are an essential part of it.
Each autumn, we plan our church budget for the coming year. Some of us get cross-eyed or simply cross with talk of numbers and budgets. But a budget invites churches, families, and individuals to assess priorities and be intentional about what is placed under our care by God. Stewardship of finances is a faith-forming practice.
On Sunday, November 20, we will have a time of commitment in morning worship when we are invited to bring our 2023 commitment cards to the altar. These cards will be mailed to
you in November, along with the proposed 2023 church budget. Your card of estimated giving for the year is confidential and not binding. It is simply an act of worship as we covenant to entrust our finances to God.
As we look ahead to next year, we also focus on the current reality. We hope to end this year strong as Christ’s love and hope in Jefferson City and beyond. Your faithful generosity makes this possible.
This congregation has seen extraordinary change in the past two years, and yet, this church’s generous and faithful DNA remains the same. I am so grateful to be part of this faith family.

Seeing Through the Eyes of Jesus calls us back to the central focus of our Christian faith, the Risen and Living Jesus! This new resource invites congregations into deeper faithfulness with each other, equips communities to offer a bold and positive witness to the risen Jesus, and transforms us individually and corporately while we co-labor with God to transform the world. There will be a 15-minute weekly video along with a discussion. Fun fact: One of the video narrators each week is Hannah Coe, former Pastor of Families & Faith Formation. The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship produced this curriculum.
ADVENT DEVOTIONS
The first Sunday of Advent begins November 27 with a new season of devotions written by members and friends of our congregation. Devotions are emailed daily through Christmas Day. You may also pick up limited print copies of our Advent Devotion Booklet in the church office or at the Welcome Center. These are wonderful to give to neighbors, co-workers, friends, or family members. The print booklets will be available in the church office the week of November 21 and on Sundays beginning November 27.
If you want to receive the daily devotions email and have not before, visit fbcjc.org/connect or contact the church office.

THANK YOU!
On October 15th, more than twenty members of Familia Cristiana Internacional (FCI) made a trip to the Ark Encounter in Kentucky. This trip would not have been possible without the bus that FCI received as a gift from FBCJC.
From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for this gift that will help us transport church members to various church functions.
4 - SPECIAL EVENTS
MISSIONS hands on
PROJECT HOMELESS – CONNECTS!
The annual PROJECT HOMELESS CONNECT event helps persons who are homeless or nearhomeless to obtain services, and to overcome some of the barriers they face. Once again, First Baptist Church recently joined with other churches, health professionals and social service agencies to help ease the burdens of homelessness in our community. First Baptist contributed financially, provided space, and was represented among approximately 200 volunteers who served at Project Homeless Connect on September 30. The event, held on East Capitol Avenue, used the facilities of First Baptist, First Methodist and First Christian churches. There were 139 participants this year with 76 homeless and 63 near-homeless. They visited stations that included medical and dental care, vision screening, showers and haircuts, bus passes, and gas vouchers, housing and/or employment information, information to obtain a birth certificate or ID as well as Medicaid and food stamps. Backpacks containing socks, washcloths and hygiene items were distributed, and participants enjoyed a warm, nourishing lunch. Vouchers for the Salvation Army thrift store were also available.
Do you ever wonder where homeless persons live? Statistics show that 15% live in a car; 31% live on the street; 15% stay in an empty building; 24% stay in a park or a campground and 15% live in a motel. Project Homeless Connect strives to bring the community together to reduce the burdens of homelessness. But volunteers also get something out of Project Homeless Connect. They get an inkling of the barriers faced by vulnerable persons and increased awareness of services and strategies for overcoming the obstacles faced. The success of this year’s event was made possible by the collaboration of churches, social service agencies and many willing volunteers. First Baptist Church was a part of it.

NOVEMBER SERIES: EXCHANGE!
We all make exchanges — all the time! Whether you’re shopping, texting your best friend, swapping snacks at the lunch table, or returning a wave to a neighbor, most of the exchanges we make aren’t very memorable. But the exchanges that stick with us are those we have with people who impact our lives for the better. In this four-week series, we’ll see how we can all exchange wisdom (no matter our age.)
