UPCOMING As we enter November in the year 2020, it may seem challenging to reflect on gratitude and blessings. It has been a hard year, and hard months are still ahead.

Night comes earlier in these cold months, the pandemic rages on and, although an election season will end (something to be thankful for), we know the division will not. For all these reasons, it is more imperative than ever for us to practice gratitude and dependence upon God and celebrate God’s abundant blessings.

In our The Joy of Giving sermon series, beginning November 8, we will focus on the joy of receiving, managing, and sharing God’s blessings. God faithfully provides what we need. Our trust in and dependence on God’s provision

brings freedom and peace. And it brings joy as we join God and each other in being Christ’s love and hope in our families, community, and world.

Our Lead Pastor, Doyle Sager, and his family continue to be overwhelmed by your kindness, generosity, and prayers on their behalf as Doyle receives cancer treatments. K E NYA PARTN E R SH I P UP DAT E The partnership between FBC and Oasis for Orphans in supporting “The Well” in Kenya remains strong. Although a team from FBC was not able to travel to the orphanage (The Well) in 2020, we continue to provide prayers and support. FBC made a financial contribution to help purchase food and other added expenses incurred due to COVID-19 lockdown. Rick and Ann Smith, the lead missionaries, are currently working from the United States while Rick completes counselor training. The following excerpt is from a recent communication from the Smiths: We continue to keep up with our Oasis responsibilities from afar. Because of the time difference, we’re up early to communicate

and work together with the staff in Kenya.

We’re particularly thankful for Elizabeth who is managing The Well. She’s always been delightful to work with and she’s thriving in her gifting! It was also our joy and privilege to hire Edward, the first Oasis hired graduate (can I get an AMEN!!!) as The Well accountant! He’s learning and growing in his new role every day and we’re all so proud of him! The kids and staff are thriving. The teachers are working on lesson planning and the kids continue to work on reading, memorizing math facts, speaking English, and catching up in school. Some of the high school and all of the college level students restarted classes this week. We’re so thankful they’re back to learning.

Many of our favorite movies, from Toy Story to Moana, tell the stories of characters who are on a journey to discover who they are and what they were created to do.

The stories in Scripture are like this too, but with one big difference: in the Bible, humans aren’t the main characters — God is. In this series, we’ll explore the stories of people like Cain and Abel, Elijah, Naomi, Ruth, Esther, and some of the earliest Jesus-followers in order to see that who we are can best be understand in the context of who God is. When we discover who our Creator is, we can better understand who we were created to be. Because of who God is, we can trust how God has made us, we can do difficult things, we can embrace the unknown, and we can take risks for others.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE 6:30 - 7:30 pm - Grades 6-8 (doors open at 6:15) 7:30 - 8:00 pm - Transition/Cleaning 8:00 - 9:00 pm - Grades 9-12 (doors open at 7:45) WHAT TO EXPECT We will meet as a large group in the gym, seated in chairs socially distanced. The gym gives us plenty of room to spread out and tall ceilings. The first 25 minutes will be a game, worship and a message ... all following our guidelines. We will dismiss small groups one at a time to go to their designated meeting space inside or outside (if weather permits) for the final 30 minutes. Temps will be checked when youth enter, hand sanitizer will be available and masks will be worn by everyone at all times. Chairs and all touch surfaces will be disinfected between the MS and HS gatherings.

Worship Each Sunday morning, worship bags will be provided for children who attend worship in-person. Children will be able to take their worship bags with them. We will have a children’s time each week in both virtual worship and in-person worship. A friendly reminder to families that masks are required for people ages 2 years old and up. As always, children will be welcomed and loved as we worship together in a new way.

Watch for Parent Cues and Weekly Videos provided to every family every week this year.

Sundays at the Park FBC Kids will gather at Memorial Park: November 1, 4-5pm November 8, 3-5pm (Bubble Halloween Party) November 15, 4-5pm November 22, 4-5pm Children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes on Sunday, November 8 at the park. Costumes are optional. The Bubble Bus will host a bubble dance party. We will have special Halloween activities to celebrate (this very different) Halloween 2020! Please let Pastor Hannah know if you’re coming so we can have a goodie bag for you.

Family Devos & Weekly Videos Each week this year, our families will receive weekly Bible story videos that are age-specific for each child in your family. If your child will attend our park gathering, please show your child the Bible story video prior to Sunday. Even if your child is not attending in-person events, we hope these videos and devos will be helpful for your family. Email hannah@fbcjc.org for more info.
