INTERIM THOUGHTS “You shudda been there,” is how we explain those things that are beyond imagination. For the handful of weeks after Easter, the glow of what took place continues to shine. We’ll explore those post-Easter stories all the way through Pentecost. Our theme for these weeks is Surprise! Finding God in the Most Unexpected People and Places. During these weeks, we’ll explore the stories in Acts that describe the most unexpected acts of God in their newly formed community of faith. The sound of the wind was like a freight train blowing through the room where they were, “like a tornado” we might say. Now imagine the wind blowing into your open mouth and into your lungs and blowing over your vocal chords giving you speech you
did not know you had. Then there was the intense light and heat from the flames of the Spirit. It was so extraordinary as to be beyond words. Jesus’ disciples were waiting for just this moment, gathered together, praying together, and waiting just as instructed by Jesus … but waiting for what? All they knew was they were told to wait for God. Then, beyond their wildest imaginations, it began to happen. What would happen to us at FBC if we were open to the Spirit in such a welcoming, transformational way? We are living in surprising times waiting for the Spirit to move us to live out our new lives.
